Bobbi Brown Ultra Nude Eye Palette Review, Swatches, Photos

Neons are trending at the moment but if I’m honest I can’t really wear ’em. I think neon shades rock on dark skin but I look awfully garish if I try say a bright orange lipstick. As much as I want to wear neon orange it just doesn’t look right. But I’m all about convincing myself it looks awesome.

Every do that?

Tell yourself that something looks brilliant but in reality you know how bad it really looks.

I am digging on Bobbi’s “safe way” to wear neons. Her Neons and Nudes Collection features delicate shades of color for eyes and cheeks and combines it with a pop of vibrant lipstick. Perhaps this will make it easier to embrace the trend this season.

Let’s take a look at her new Ultra Nude Palette that you can pair up with a bright shade of daring lipstick!

Well, sadly, the Bobbi Brown Ultra Nude Palette didn’t make wearing a neon shade of lipstick any easier but I will say I adore the color selection. And I paired up my look with the boldest I’d go in terms of lipstick, a bright shade of orange lipstick from Etude House’s Tangerine Collection.

This comes in a Bobbi’s traditional black slim line case but open it up and a playful neon pink plate surrounds the shadows. You get six shades of shadow and a dual sided eyeshadow/liner brush.

Shades Include:

  • Stone Eye Shadow
  • Chino Eye Shadow
  • Pink Chandelier Metallic Eye Shadow
  • Praline Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow
  • Champagne Truffle Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow
  • Cocoa Berry Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow

(Swatched Left to Right: Cocoa Berry, Champagne Truffle, Stone, Pink Chandler, Praline, Chino)

This is a variety of finer taupe-y shades that will create a variety of nude looks. If you’re more a color girl (like vibrant shades of MAC shadow are your bag) you might find the shades uneventful but if you enjoy more sophisticated, mature shades of shadow you’ll enjoy the selection here. As I get older I appreciate shades like this more and more as they brighten up tired eyes and create a soft look without bringing attention to flaws such as finer lines.

I think some of the shades I can easily dupe from other Bobbi Brown palettes I already own but it’s nice having the selection all in one place and one shadow that does stick out as interesting is Cocoa Berry which is best used as a liner. This is a rather rich chocolatey brown laced with berry and subtle golden shimmer.

For my look below I did my variation of the Neons & Nude promo image with a simple eye look that consisted of a sweep of Pink Chandelier on my eyes, a hint of Cocoa Berry smudged on my upper lash line, and as daring as I was willing to go with a bright orange lipstick and a topping of the new Bobbi Brown Lipgloss in Citrus.

If you just like nudes this palette will definitely make a guest starring appearance on your Spring 2012 wish list or if you want to embrace a more natural look to compliment and keep attention on your louder shade of lipstick this season you’ll love the Ultra Nude Palette. It’s a fine selection of Bobbi’s nudes and hey, that’s what Bobbi does right, creates beautiful shades of nude eyeshadow!

After all the Bobbi I indulged in over the holidays (yep I’m still a sucker for holiday collections) I thought I’d give this a pass.
Then I saw it, played with it, and had to have it.
    Love love love!
And I too convince myself that certain things look amazing (orange lipstick on my white skin) just because I want to rock them.

lol same jessica, I swear I tell myself a million times I can wear orange lipstick…NOT! hahaha!

I have noticed that I can pull it off a little more with a little cheek color to balance it all out

SUrprisingly I really like the colours. at first sight I thought that the colours were too similar but the variations around the taupe colour are a success. I might consider buying this as I don’t have any taupe shade at all !

Oh my… love love love love love. But I bet it will be insanely expensive here in Australia 🙁

I got a orangey-beige lipstick from mac once and that was the closest I came to orange. Never again! It just looked really really odd on me.

And I am lemming that palette so so much~

They look a little dupe-y to the Naked 1 and 2 palettes. What do you think? Do I need this if I have both the naked palettes? I really am not a huge fan of mattes, if truth be told.

    • the Muse

hey patti not like ud naked at all. more subtle and subdued 🙂 if you don’t like mattes def don’t purchase as it does contain a good deal of them hun!
