MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Gel Review, Swatches, Photos

I’m having a lustful skincare moment here as I’m currently in lust with MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Gel. To my knowledge this is the first time MAC has done a gel moisturizer but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Although I’m not a faithful user of MAC Skincare one solid point is all their products wear so well under makeup. Anyone notice that? Eye creams, moisturizers, etc…they all have a perfect wear under makeup. In the case of their new Moisture Gel it’s just as lovely under makeup particularly for the dry skin girls out there.

Take a look!

Make no mistake here when you read “gel” and assume that this is a lightweight facial moisturizer. I hear gel and I automatically think of Asian gel moisturizers which are super light and suitable for oily skin. This is actually quite a heavy weight. It’s a thicker gel formula that soothes drier skin beautifully and offers a strong moisturizing finish that reduces the appearance of patchy or flaky dry areas easily.

MAC supercharged the moisture gel with their 77 Mineral Complex. Now I like Charged Water well enough but I’m not sure how beneficial the mineral complex is to your skin so I can’t really speak for that aspect of the product.

The gel absorbs easily into skin and leaves it softer, smoother, and perfectly prepped for makeup. I prefer a richer facial cream for daily use in the colder weather and this fits the bill perfectly as it offers plenty of lasting hydration and preps my skin so well that I can easily use powder without aging myself due to drier skin.

Overall, MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Gel is a welcome staple to my skincare collection. I’ve been using it daily for the past two weeks and must say it proves a great prep for makeup and allows my skin to breath easily without feeling too heavy, greasy, or oily. The smooth surface it creates after application proves perfection for my BB Cream/foundation products. The one down fall side is it does come in a rather large tub which means the product won’t remain stable for long but try getting a small plastic scoop of some kind to avoid dipping into it with fingers.

Likey this one!

I think all skin types can easily benefit from this one!

Great review! I had been wanting to try this, but you’re right I assumed lightweight gel. I have combination skin, so I am not sure if this will be too much for me. I guess I could use it as a night cream if it is.

I think it should be ok! A little touch for combination/oily skin should be fine. It doesn’t make my skin greasy, oily, or tacky…has kinda a velvety finish to it, quite nice!

I have combination skin and have also recently been put on a topical and oral medication regimine for mild acne. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this moisturizer! Not only has it aided in nurturing my skin back to health, but it does wear beautifully under my foundation. I was afraid since I have combination skin, it would be too oily. Absolutely not the case. I recommend this moisturizer to anyone, any skin type. It’s definitely my favorite!

Would you say this would work well for me? I have combo skin, oily t-zone, nose, chin/mouth but I have dry cheeks. When I put powder on my face between my nose and my cheeks (nasal-labial line basically) it always feels very tight/dry even if I moisturize well. Since you said this hold up under your makeup I am wondering if it would solve my problem? Just your 2cents? 🙂

    • the Muse

It dries down to a nice finish tammie which leads me to believe it should be fine for all skin types. A touch is very hydrating and doesn’t have an oily, greasy feel. It seems to wear very very well under makeup. I think it should be fine! It feels almost velvety on the dry down!

I’ll have to give it a shot :). I love my Hadanomy moisturizer but it just doesn’t seem to cut it as soon as powder touches my face >.>

          • Tammie

I’d better like it at least twice as much as Hadanomy, since that’s how much more it costs hehe ;).

          • the Muse

lol! true true true ;-D maybe dip your finger in it at your local counter to see if you like the texture prior to indulging ;D!

  • Tammie

I dunno if that’ll work, since it’s an issue with a particular bit of my face…I’ll just buy it at Nordstrom where I know I can return it with no problems if it doesn’t work out for me 🙂

  • Candee

I think I’ll give this a shot. I am addicted to my Clinique DDML though…

  • sammie

I wonder if this is similar to Clinique Moisture Surge? What do you think, Muse? Also, do you find that you are going through the pot quickly? (That’s the case for me with my Moisture Surge!)

    • the Muse

not sure sammie I don’t have moisture surge/never used it 🙁 sorry! I’ve been using this about two weeks and seems like it’s holding up well, believe I can get at least 6 months out of a pot? 🙂

    • Candee702

I didn’t even think about it being comparable to Moisture Surge. Good call! I loved MS when I used it. Now you’ve definitely got me curious. LOL

  • yael

    Hi Muse,
so happy you liked this because it’s in my shopping bag at Nordstrom’s ready to be bought! Would you be able to tell the ingredients? It’s not listed on mac’s website and nordstrom beauty told me to call a local counter, nothing like someone rolling off ingredients on the phone! is there any scent? love the glitter box, too bad the jar isn’t like that!

  • Judskii

What do you mean when you say it won’t stay stable for long? I tried this out in store and got suckered into buying it without checking the price. $40 is a bit steep for me so I’m thinking about returning it, but if it’s a great product, I don’t mind keeping it.

I don’t wear make up everyday, so I’m wondering if you can use it just as a moisturizer on your face even if you’re not wearing make up?

  • glittergirl

So overall would you say this gel makes your skin look more hydrated or matted?

and do you think that this gel makes the skin feel nourished in anyway?

I’m contemplating buying this but if there are no noticable benefits then i’m not sure.

  • Macgirl

    Hey,

Have stumbled across your site and love it! Just wanted to ask whether I should get this one or the mac comfort creme ( I have really dry skin that loves to show up as patchy after wearing make up)

Would really appreciate your opinion 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

either one is really great macgirl! This is a little nicer for Summer wear where as comfort creme is nicer for PM or winter use. Hope this helps!
