Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush Review, Swatches, Photos

Being Human is back on the BBC on February 5th. I suspect we’ll see it in March if not sooner on BBC America. But Toby, why you put George in the corner? Update: It will be on BBC America on 02/25/2012! Yay!

Enjoy the trailer fan girls!

Now for the makeup!

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush how you get so awesome? Seriously, I can play with these all day! The formula is so spongy and bouncy and joyful!

Jump!

These are fun if nothing else. I think Maybelline did a really great job with the concept and the idea behind the blushes. They have a sponge-y almost clay-like texture that quite reminds me of the Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Long-Wear Luminous Eyeshadows. You press on them and they seem to bounce right back again (just don’t press too hard). They kinda remind me of molding clay. Below you can see how I pressed one in a little bit too much…that’s ok though, the dome of the blush will lose a bit of its shape after a few applications but the texture remains the same.

One of the most surprising things about the blush is the size. Seeing promo images I thought they would be about the size of a regular blush compact but they are actually fairly smaller and about the size of MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow. The smaller size doesn’t hinder the product in anyway and you have plenty of room to dip fingers in without issues. Speaking of….I don’t really love the idea of products I have to dip into to apply as it creates a breeding ground for bacteria but you can use a stippling to avoid this.

I find the best application is blending out with fingers but you can get fairly beautiful results with the aid of a stippling brush as well for a more airbrushed finish to the blush. I find it’s pretty much foolproof to apply and builds easily without every looking over done. The formula is lacking in the pigment tomorrow particularly with some of the lighter shades but they build easily for a natural flush of color. Some of the darker shades prove the best picks in my opinion for most all skin types as they have the best color pay off. Some shades I recommend for purchase would be Plum Wine, Pink Frosting, Hot Tamale, and Peach Satin. These proved to have the best pigment.

(Hot Tamale)

(Pink Plum)

(Rose Petal)

(Plum Wine)

(Pink Frosting)

(Candy Coral)

The formula is incredibly lightweight and has the silky feel of a powder with a satin finish but the ease of a cream that melts into skin like butter. They are an absolute dream to work with and they give skin just the right natural glow without accentuating problem areas like finer lines or drier areas.

The downside is not only the lack of pigmentation but also the wear time. I can put these on in the morning and within an hour they wear away completely. The longest wear time I’ve seen from them so far was two hours wearing the shade Hot Tamale.

Shades swatched left to right, bottom to top:

  • Peach Satin
  • Pink Frosting
  • Hot Tamale
  • Plum Wine
  • Candy Coral
  • Rose Petal
  • Pink Plum

If you can find them on sale I think one or two shades are worth a pick up but the really short wear time kills the deal slightly here for me and the very subtle color pay off. A bit more pigment and a better wear time would earn these a spot on my Muse Approval list.

Disclaimer: Two of these blushes were given to me as press samples from Maybelline and the others I purchased at Walgreens.

I’ve seen a few other reviews on these. None of them were good. They seem like a waste of money.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! I simply adore them. Almost to the point where if I had to choose one line of blushes to only ever use, I’d use these. Rose Petal is my favorite, it looks amazing on me if I do say so myself 😛 I always get compliments when I wear it. Oh and I never use these with brushes, they’re just so fun to use with your fingers! *poke poke poke* Lol 😛

ha no kid cj? I was a littttttttttle disappointed but they are sun fun ;-D how’s the wear time for you in florida? I get about an hour 🙁 and they fade on me sigh!

      • Cj

I get around 2 to 3 hours with em. Sometimes longer with the darker colors, maybe they show up longer for me since I’m paler? I usurally toss the blush in my bag before I leave.

Btw did you see my comment about the new skin79 bb cream in the PF post?

I love these! I have Pink Frosting and I’m getting Plum Wine, Hot Tamale and Pink Plum this weekend. You’re right, they are so very blendable and buildable. I have fairly oily skin and have good luck with these lasting all day on me. ‘Course I can’t think of any blush except Physicians Formula that I have a problem with how long it lasts.

Oh Being Human how I love thee! So glad to see this coming back.
This show can make me laugh my a** off, cry and cringe in terror all in the same minute.

They don’t look very pigmented at all. Too bad because the idea of a bouncy blush is kinda cute.

  • Kristen

I really like these! I got about 4-5 hours wear time before any fading, and that’s with the all 5 I got.

  • Nikki

I tried rose petal and was so disappointed. I have super fair skin and this shade barely showed up on my skin. I do like the concept and the texture is just so fun. Too bad the formula sucks 🙁

  • Chanelle

Wohoo, BBC America! But ugh, poor George! Can’t believe they’re phasing out his character. I do like the other werewolf (forgot his name, but he’s a cutie), his innocence is too adorable. But the new vampire? He looks lame. A lot like the fake Aidan on the ScyFy remake, actually.

wahoo! being human is just a month away! *happy dance* I cried like a baby when Mitchell realized that he was going to continue his circle of violence and decided to stop it all.

I over squished one of my bouncy blushes and now it’s kinda flatish on top too. I figure that i’ll squish it the other wayand it’ll sorta reform. I purchased the orchid and plum wine. I’m kinda a light beigie color and it doesn’t show up except as a highlighter, but the plum shows up on me pretty well. I had pretty good luck with wear time, about 4-5 hours.

    • the Muse

I can’t wait ruth! I’ll miss mitchell but I’m excited to see what they pull up without him! they are addicting to squish around ;-D! sadly can’t get 5 hours out of ’em! I WISH!

I have this in Hot Tamale and I LOVE it. I love how the color is sheer but builds nicely for a stronger color. I’m very fair skinned and thought I had made a bad choice by buying such a bright red color, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to try and it looks really natural, like I got a bit of winter rosiness.

  • Jane

Many have the same name as the mousses. Which were and are incredibly pigmented and fun to wear. Thanks for the review, Muse.

    • the Muse

my pleasure jane! I didn’t know they had the same name as the mousses ;-D cool!

  • Liz

I bought Pink Plum about 3-4 weeks ago and while I like how it looks, it only lasts about half an hour on me. Sad!

Am not too happy that Aiden is no longer in the series. Still though they have another Irish fella who will have to do I suppose !

*squees about Being Human, can’t concentrate on blush due to it*

    *deep breath*

Ok! I like the idea of these blushes but the wear time is a huge disappointment. I think I’ll be giving these a pass.

    • the Muse

lol daena totally can relate ;-D! sigh…my wear time is crazy short with these 🙁

  • Makeupsmiles

Is this limited edition? I want to get them but where ever I go, it’s always sold out!

    • the Muse

they aren’t le and are available at all drugstores at the moment also online at ulta, walgreens, etc…hope this helps!

  • Tracy

I got Candy Coral and it is the PERFECT shade ! But I really have to rub and press and layer so it shows on my light skin, which is a bit of a hassle. So if anybody knows a dupe that would be easier to apply, please let me know !

  • Lindsay

I tried “candy coral” because I was looking for a peachy/coral color blush and it looked like it would be a lot of fun for the spring and summer. To make the color pay off and stay, I like to mix it with another one of my higher end cream blushes (that actually stay on) or use it with a powder blush. I find it doesn’t work so well just on its’ own.

  • Lola

I made the mistake of thinking that all the colors had a lot of pigment. I have a medium skin tone, and sadly, I bought two light colors that didn’t show up on my skin. Luckily my friend with fair skin got a darker color and gave it to me after she tried it on and didn’t like it. I can’t wait to finish the blush so I can see what’s underneath it holding it up?
