Avon Shine Attract Lipstick Review & Swatches

Avon Shine Attract Lipsticks (why do I keep spelling that attack?) have finally launched with an intro price of a mere $5 bucks each.

Me likey great deals on Avon Lipsticks.

Considering Avon’s track record in the lipstick category I was fully ready to indulge. Avon has super inexpensive lipstick offerings with superb formulas. Add an interesting product like Shine Attract Lipstick to your resume and you have instantly succeeded at sucking the money right from my wallet on a purchase.

Let’s take a look and see if these are as interesting as they sound.

Cool packaging? Check. It’s a little lightweight but call it a Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited dupe. Mirrored casing, clear case, yup, very Shu. It’s a little lighter than Shu’s version but the packaging reeks of simplicity yet edge-y coolness as well.

Cool concept? Double check. A clear gloss that surrounds a lipstick. Think of your favorite shade of lip color wrapped in a tight hug of gloss and you have this little lippie. Visually they rock the wicked meter as the core is a color lipstick but the surrounding base is completely clear and makes up about 75% of the lipstick so you know this is going to have a smooth glide and a shiny finish.

Sheer? Sad check. Sadly, these run on the sheer side of the fence but the formula applies like melted butter. It glides on easily and leaves behind a touch of shine and a touch of color in a flash. I was a little worried that the ratio of clear balm versus lip color would result in a patchy application but if you apply and reapply a few times, running over your lips say two to three times, the application is smooth and flawless resulting in the perfect amount of shine and color in those swipes.

It’s actually super if you can pass the fact that it isn’t a traditional lipstick product. It acts more as balm with a glossy finish. Texture also feels like a lightweight balm to my lips which was one thing I disliked about it. It’s not light enough to get passed the feeling of “having something on your lips”. It’s not heavy but it’s the type of product that reminds you it is on your lips all day and I don’t particularly love that feeling. I want my lip color to remain light enough so I’m oblivious to the fact I’m wearing it.

End result?

It’s a like. Not a love. A love would be more pigment and a formula that doesn’t shout, “What’s up? I’m partying on your lips!” but a like consists of a nice tint of color and a glossy finish with a price tag that shouts happy days. It almost made the Muse Approval list.

Worth a haul for at least the experience of trying this one. I like the intro price of $5 bucks but wouldn’t indulge at a higher price tag.

Tried it?

Love it?

Do share!

I’d recommend purchasing one, it’s an interesting product that’s worth a try out just don’t go to crazy buying all the shades until you try and know you love it.

Off the topic of lipstick, I’m quite excited to see Audrey’s newest flick! It’s finally releasing in the US mid March. What’s on your foreign film radar?

Since these are sheer, I’d probably like them! Seem kind of gimmicky to me…but for $5 you aren’t out much!

I was kinda meh on these. I bought one full size and all of the sample sizes. The shine was great at first but faded quickly.

I tried a couple of these and I actually quite like the finish and consistency… it’s the awful taste that I couldn’t get over.

I thought these were going to be more glossy but alas, they are very drying. No color payoff as well 🙁
