Laura Mercier Eye Canvas Review & Swatches
Laura Mercier Eye Basics have been a part of my beauty arsenal for a while, I have all the shades. Their such a quick, easy way to brighten up eyes and prep them for other makeup or even just a little eyeliner and go. I normally use a shade on weekends when I really can’t be bothered with a full eyeshadow look. They have a way of brightening my eyes and giving them a flawless finish with very minimal effort on my part.
I was every so delighted and excited that for Spring, Laura has introduced new Eye Canvas pots. Granted, we all concentrate so hard on concealing the area under our eyes but never neglect your lids, they need a little TLC too and Eye Canvas promise to be the perfect little prep for the area.
Take a look!
Laura dubs this a foundation for your eye area and in a way that’s exactly what it is. It provides lightweight coverage around the lid to prep for eyeshadow. You can of course use it on its own if you want a perfectly nude eye look as well but using it in conjunction with a powder eyeshadow it acts as a concealer as well as a primer to prevent creasing.
These are housed in small glass jars much like MAC Paint Pots. The price is a little disappointing as you’re getting 0.16 oz for $26 and Eye Basics are 0.25 oz for $24. But I do think the pot might last you a good deal longer as I find I put considerably more product on my eyes when using the Basics versus the Canvas.
(Shades E3 and E2)
The formula does an impressive job keeping shadow in place, nearly as good as Urban Decay Primer Potion. Using it in several of my looks over the past two weeks I experienced no creasing or fading and my shadow remained fairly vibrant throughout a seven hour period.
But I wasn’t really interested in its ability to prime to be honest, I wanted to see how it held up against my precious Benefit Lemon Aid which makes my tired eyes look awake and perky. Well, they aren’t as pigmented as Eye Basics that’s for sure. I found the pigmentation on these a bit weak compared to Basics but they do have the ability to perk my eyes up. The finish on my lid is fresher and more awake when using these but not as bright as what I’d get from Eye Basics or Lemon Aid. Coverage is lightweight with a formula that’s creamy and fairly easy to blend without tugging the delicate skin around my lid. They have a nice soft glide across lids.
(Swatched Left to Right: E2 and E3)
Overall, Eye Canvas is a simple little solution to prep lids for eye makeup while concealing redness, smaller veins, or tired eyes. The product has the ability to create a fairly flawless lid with some limitations due to pigmentation. I think they’ll work great for older, drier eyes particularly if you’re dealing with a crepey lid since they glide on very easily and have a crease-free wear time. I admit I do like Eye Basics better but these are a nice, lightweight pick for days I just want to apply and dash out the door.
