MAC Shop Colour Added Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches

MAC Quads have been a bit disappointing as of late but the three released with the MAC Shop Collection are promising. I did a little look with the MAC Colour Added Eyeshadow Quad this morning.

Let’s have a look!

I’m a big lover of combining blues and golds as it really makes my brown eyes come alive so I was quite excited to try out the Colour Added Quad.

Shades included:

  • Laundry Daze (light creamy yellow)
  • Colour Added (bright golden yellow)
  • Self-Serve (deep grey)
  • Pre-Packaged (navy-ish turquoise)

(Self Serve, Pre-Packaged, Coloured Added, and Laundry Daze)

The dominate shades here are Colour Added and Pre-Packaged with Laundry Daze and Self-Serve acting as highlighting and defining shades. For my look below I used Laundry Daze all over my lid, Pre-Packaged blended on the outer v and slightly into the crease, Pre-Packaged on the lower half of my lashline, and Laundry Daze to highlight.

Formula proves a tad better than what I’ve seen from MAC Quads lately. Pigmentation is excellent, blendability also very good, and shades are smooth and silky. Texture is still a little drier all around but not nearly as bad as some of the quads that MAC has released in the past few collections. Self Serve probably proves the worst offender in the quad since it has the driest formula and yields the worst color pay off due to that formula. I didn’t find it an essential part of my look anyway so I wasn’t too upset however when you’re going into purchase you really don’t want to dish out money on something with a formula that’s 75% good.

Overall, I think Colour Added was a nice quad. I like the color selection a lot although I probably would have liked to see a less vibrant shade of yellow and a more subtle gold to pair up with the blue. But regardless, it creates a nice look overall. MAC is coming along with their quads but this still isn’t up to the high standards of some of my older quads.

    The blue is gorgeous!

But, I’m surprised that you found pigmentation to be excellent overall – it looks like the gray barely showed up in your swatch.

This is on my list. I rec’d the purple quad yesterday. Can’t wait to give it a go.

Not that promising in the palette or on the swatches but it does look good on you.

  • Jillann

I do like this combo on you – would you ever consider doing a closer shot of your eyes along with the whole face shot?

thanks appreciate it jillann, I can try but I’m not such a great photographer blah! close ups end up looking blurry and washed out :-/

I ordered the Shop and Drop quad (along with a ton of other stuff) and I am so impatiently waiting for it! I don’t buy from every collection, but have heard good things about some of the stuff from this and the Vera collection. I also bought a ton from Naturally and absolutely love everything I got. So MAC is doing good for me lately! :0)

You rarely do looks like this but the vibrant colors really suit you and make your eyes pop!

These colors blended out beautifully for your ‘look’. It was not what I was expecting and I really like that. 🙂
Maybe try the grey one over another matte color to give it some sparkle? just suggesting – I have a similar shade like that from Bobbi Brown and I think it does it’s best work over other stuff.
