Mally Perfect Prep Hydrating Under Eye Brightener Review & Swatches
Mally recently introduced her new Perfect Prep Hydrating Under Eye Brightener and instantly, quick like the Flash, I was on it.
Not quick enough obviously because it sold out before I could get my order in. Oh well. Wait list for me but lucky enough QVC kindly shipped it out to me about two or three weeks later so I was happily sitting around building up the excitement about how amazing my new under eye Brightener was going to be!
Is it as great as I expected?
Housed in a small glass jar and .04 oz in size I was actually a little overwhelmed. How could I possibly finish this entire jar off? It was thick and it appeared crazy pigmented so no way was I going to get through this all in my one makeup life considering the crazy amount of concealers I have to use up at the moment.
Fact, you might just get through a jar as it isn’t as pigmented as it seems. Fact, it’s disappointingly sheer.
On many levels the product is an utter disappointment but for some odd reason or another I liked it. Granted, it didn’t shatter my concealer world but it is something that I can see myself using on days I can’t really be bothered to apply a ton of makeup.
Mally introduced this in two shades one of which is a lighter and the other darker both having a heavy yellow base. Mine is a buttery off yellow shade. Yellow counteracts blue and black circles so shadows, circles, darkness, etc..appears brighter. I thought this would act as a concealer of sorts. But actually, the sheerness of it works out well in the long run as disappointment stems from that sheerness but Mally doesn’t technically market the product as a concealer only a brightener and it succeeds at that. If you can get pass the fact this isn’t going to replace your concealer you might just enjoy it.
I was surprised though regardless as it is an overwhelming shade of yellow in the pot with a creamy consistency that resembles custard and looks like it, minus fish sticks. The thicker texture tricks you into believing the product will be hecka pigmented but actually it’s very, very sheer with little coverage. You might be tempted to pat it into place but I suggest a concealer brush to swipe or “paint” it on at first and than follow up with a bit of patting to insure it is evenly blended as it does have a yellow cast if you don’t take a little time to blend it out.
The product is extra hydrating and very moisturizing so long as you apply the correct amount and blend it properly. A messy application technique using too much will result in creasing and an overly bright, abnormal look. Use a little, build it up slowly, and blend, blend, blend for the best results.
The end result is rather great. It brightens up darkness and creates a nice flawless finish and my aging, dry eyes feel right at home with it since it doesn’t crease into finer lines. If you feel like you still need extra coverage you can dab a little concealer on top. I personally prefer wearing it by itself.
The bad part? It doesn’t wear as long as concealer so tired, dark circled eyes are back in force within a four hour period perhaps shorter wear time if you’re oily.
In the long run Mally Perfect Prep Hydrating Under Eye Brightener isn’t a great product and technically not really new either, Bobbi Brown’s version comes to mind doesn’t it? The packaging makes it unstable (who knows how long it’ll remain fresh in this jar) and the shorter wear time kills the deal. Plus add to the fact it’s over $40 after taxes and shipping fees and you really have to second guess the purchase. I liked the results but felt that maybe the cons outweighed the pros here. I wanted to say it was ideal for days that you want lighter coverage but the price makes it a pricey indulgence for every other day use or just on weekends, at this price you want to be able to use it daily.
In the end you can probably purchase a cheaper yellow based concealer that will do a better job.
Too bad, I wanted to love it long time.
