Review & Swatches: Cheap Thrills with New Shades of Milani Crystal Gloss for Lips

Milani has introduced several new shades of their Crystal Gloss for Lips. I’m a rather big Milani fan girl but I haven’t tried these, my god, where have I been?

Since they have new shades available now is a good a time as any to review ’em up!

Have a look!

(Fruit Punch, Clear, Raspberry Bling, Pucker Up, and Dark Honey)

Looks are deceiving, these tiny tubes look small but big things come in tiny packages as these house 0.17 oz of glosses. That’s the equivalent of a MAC Lipglass for as little as $5 bucks and change.

These are available in 15 shades, five of which are brand new colors for Spring 2012.

New Shades:

  • Dark Honey (sheer glittering blackened plum)
  • Clear (clear gloss)
  • Fruit Punch (cream coral pink)
  • Pucker Up (cream melon)
  • Raspberry Bling (bright shimmering fuchsia)

The size isn’t the only thing that’s similar to MAC here, the formula is pretty consistent with what you’d expect from a more expensive Lipglass, medium texture, not too thick, not too thin, enough stick and tack to allow it to have a fairly long wear time, perhaps 4 to 5 hours without eating and drinking, and a subtle vanilla taste.

Each features a sponge tip applicator that builds the gloss easily. They start out a tad on the drier side but built up they create a nice even layer of product that leave lips shiny.

All of the newer shades are a tad sheer so I suggest a little lipstick or stain underneath for the best results but the cream ones have a nice pop of color when built up.

If you’re on a strict budget these are pretty much what you’d get from MAC for as little as five bucks each and in some cases even less if your local drugstore is having a BOGO (Buy 1, Get 1) sale. The formula is very similar to what you’d see from a more expensive lipglass.

The only downside is the color names are printed on the cap. I think they should have labeled the bottom as with constant use and handling the ink will probably rub off. This stinks if you forget the name of the shade and want to repurchase!

A cheap thrill well worth picking up!

Too bad I’ll never end up getting any of these…Milani doesn’t seal any of their lip products and I am terrified to get something that somebody has used 🙁

    • Cynthia

yeah I ordered older shades from the website during black friday and they were sealed. Maybe some gross person opened the ones you saw?

      • Tammie

Maybe it’s just CVS? Or maybe it’s this line of glosses in particular that is wrapped? Because all the other lines of Milani gloss are completely free of packaging x_x

recently I’ve seen some cvs stores seal the revlon lip butters in a full wrapper. I hope the milani ones are like that too because every time I go to cvs they’re all opened!

          • Tammie

The funny thing is that I don’t really really mind about things like the lip butters and lipsticks because you can tell by looking at them that they’ve been used. However with lip gloss there is no way of telling.

Personally I think everything should be tamper proof, but the lip gloss situation particularly grosses me out.

So I checked it out, these particular glosses DO come packaged, all the other types DO NOT. Weird/gross.

  • Traci

I really like dark honey and pucker up. I have one Milani gloss in a shade called whisper that I really like. The Milani glosses in Target are sealed with a plastic wrap.

      • Traci

Whisper is a nice, soft pink shade. I really like it!!! I think you described another lip gloss as “my lips but better”, and that is how I think of whisper.

I LOVE shades like that traci! think I need to stop at walgreens tonight and check it out ;D!

Thanks so much for the swatches! I’ve never really bothered to check these out before, will have to take a look next time there’s a sale!
