Stila Jewel Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Spring 2010 Stila released their Jewel Eyeshadow Palette which I adored. Fast forward to Spring 2012 and Stila has a new selection of Jewel Eyeshadow singles.

Are they as good as that palette?

Take a look!

I was a little worried about Stila’s formula so I only indulged in one of these. Stila is a bit inconsistent lately with their formula so I tend to practice a little precaution when I purchase products from them lately.

I was curious about the Jewel Eyeshadow Singles and being a lover of sparkle finishes these were an obvious pick.

Each one comes in its own compact. Some Stila Singles force you to purchase a compact separately, something I personally find very irritating. Trish McEvoy, for all her glory, does the same with her shadows. What the hell? It’s only a few dollars but I just want to buy the entire package, I don’t want an eyeshadow and proceed to follow up by purchasing a compact for that shadow. How absurd.

Needless to say, I’m thankful these have a small black compact included.

The texture on these is most comparable to Urban Decay Stardust Eyeshadows. The Jewel Palette had a flakier, loosely packed shadow that resembled a pressed pigment where as the Jewel Eyeshadow Singles are more densely packaged. The formula does not resemble a pigment in anyway, shape, or form and I felt like fall out was quite minimal compared to the shadows included in the palette. The texture is very smooth almost slippery and yields a nice color payoff without being too over the top shimmery.

I indulged in Golden Topaz which happened to be the name of one of the shades in the palette and it is pretty much an exact match for the color but the formula is considerably different.

Overall, these produce a very nice sparkly eye look without being to disco-ballish. The formula is very easy to work with and blends dreamy. I probably wouldn’t recommend trying to use various colors in a single look as they are best suited to single shadow application as they probably won’t play nicely together and will blend a bit muddy. I think the formula, if anything, was improved upon with these. I’ll definitely be purchasing others as Stila did a nice job with them. I think they’re a welcome addition to their general catalog.

Anyone try?

I’ve played with them, but just find them too sparkly and not enough color pay off for my taste.

These by far are my favorite eyeshadows, I actually bought all of them. So basically Im broke for a while lol. They have the prettiest sparkle to them, not like chuncky glitter. I find that if you use a fluffy brush it packs on the color. I love it because it makes your eyes glisten hehe.
