Guerlain Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighter Review & Swatches

It seems terribly early to discuss Summer but Summer it is on makeup counters so here we are!

As you know my current obsession is all things peach so I indulged in the new Guerlain Sun Shimmer Highlighter. I was a little worried about this one as I already own NARS Illuminator in Super Orgasm and it just seemed like the same general idea!

Wrong!

Glad I picked it up.

Unlike the NARS Illuminator this WILL act as a blush. Joy! I thought it would prove too sheer to use as a blush but indeed, you can use it all over cheeks as it has an excellent color pay off.

The formula is a watery liquid so it applies fairly easy and blends out simply. Pretty foolproof as far as application goes as you don’t really need a ton of tools or no how. A pump onto your finger tips, dot on, blend out, done! The texture isn’t moisturizing but it feels and wears well on my drier skin while looking natural and flawless. It’s weightless which is ideal for Summer when you want a lovely flush of color but not the heaviness of a powder or cream. It also has a lovely wear time of seven to eight hours without fading issues.

I think what really made me happy was it wasn’t only a highlighter as per the name. The pigment is perfect for wearing as a blusher on cheeks.

And of course, what sold me on it, the color. This is a more popping shade of NARS Super Orgasm. It’s a golden peachy pink with golden shimmer. I love the shade, it’s simply stunning and gives such vitality and youthfulness to cheeks.

Beware…

It looks amazing indoors, blended in front of a mirror, but watch how much you’re putting on as it is shimmery as hell. In my bathroom vanity mirror it looked gorgeous but I walked outside and it was disco fever. Just be careful how much you’re putting on and be aware of the finished results.

Overall, I love this one. It’s a gorgeous shade for Summer with a lightweight, strong wear that will do well in warm weather. The pump packaging is hygienic and it flows easily so you aren’t pumping out a ton of product. The price might slay you at $41 for .50 oz but this is Guerlain and the price reflects the prestigious nature of the brand.

Loves it.

Well worth picking up.

I might go ahead and indulge in the other color they have available.

I agree! I like this one! I find that with a stippling brush I get as much color, but less shimmer than when I applied with fingers.

Looks so lovely on you! And there’s nothing wrong with a little glitter, eh? 😉 Hahah….I will try the stippling brush technique too!

Oh wow 😀 That shimmer! What was the problem you had with the NARS Super Orgasm though? Too sheer? I was thinking of picking it up :/

Hi muse! I love this…which shade is it? Sunny pink or spicy coral?

I’m a little late to the party, but how similar is this to MAC’s Peachykeen blush? I’m trying to talk myself out of spending $40+ on a blush, but I live in Florida, so I have 6 more months to get use out of it. (see? I’m already justifying the cost lol) Is the shimmer similar (say that 10 times fast) to NARS’ Orgasm blush? I’m so glad I found your website; I check it obsessively throughout the day. Thanks in advance for answering all of my questions! 🙂
