Make Up For Ever La Boheme Baked Eye Shadow Palette Review & Swatches

Make Up Forever ventured into the world of baked eyeshadows with their new La Boheme Baked Eye Shadow Palette. This is the first time the brand has released a baked shadow format so I was every so excited to get my hands on the palette considering my love of baked eyeshadow.

Let’s take a peek!

This little palette is plenty cute as it comes in a boho printed sturdy cardboard box with a ribbon pull/handle. It’s missing a mirror but I don’t mind so much considering I rarely, if at all apply eyeshadow on the road. If sweet packaging is your deal the palette has plenty of that to go around.

Inside you’ll find six baked eyeshadows about the size of a US quarter. The palette hasn’t gathered together the best reviews but I think it’s because the formula is unexpected from a brand we’ve come to know for their highly pigmented formula.

I personally loved it and if you liked baked eyeshadow formulas along the lines of what Bourjois Paris produces, you’ll enjoy it too.

Shades are sheer and subtle with a burst of shimmer however the sparkle easily blends away after application and colors can be built up for the best color pay off. I find they build easily with the use of a sponge applicator and work surprisingly well together for contrasting together. Using several baked shades of shadow together is a rarity as most go muddy and you can never get any true definition however these worked well together (I used the green, peach, and brown shades in my look below). The shadow consistency is silky and super smooth however there is a bit of fall out to contend with if you rush application so a bit of sparkly bits will pop up below eyes and on cheek bones but dusts away easily enough. You can use the shades wet or dry but I personally like them dry as they offer the best sparkle factor with this application method versus a wet one which gives more of an intense color pay off but also makes blending shades together a tricky feat.

The color selection adapts some lovely shades of Spring/rebirth with brown and green being a focal point and accents of peach, creamy beige, purple, and teal playing second fiddle. Shades work surprisingly well together to create very good looks so you aren’t left with a palette shade selection that simply doesn’t match up well. They are also amazing for aging eyes as you can easily inject these colors into a look for brighter eyes without adding age to your eyes.

I think the Make Up For Ever La Boheme Baked Eye Shadow Palette was an absolute winner for me being a lover of baked shadow formulas however it could potentially prove surprising for some considering MUFE’s track record with richly saturated color cosmetics as these are considerably sheerer and more subtle than what the brand is so known and favored for. I’d highly recommend it to those that loved baked shadows as these are sooooo incredibly silky and loving the wear however those who aren’t a fan might want to skip out on this one.

Loves it!

I hope MUFE does more like this in the future.

Meh. This isn’t that exciting to me. I’m also turned off by the lack of mirror because sometimes I use the one in the palette as I’m applying, even if I’m not on the road. It seems like an odd thing to leave out. I also feel like I have colors similar to all of these already, I think I’ll pass.

I ordered this the day it came out, and I love it! I am also a baked eyeshadow lover, and prefer these used wet.

I think this is the first time I’ve ever wanted a set of eyeshadows just for the packaging. 🙂
