Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam Air Infused Foundation Review & Swatches

I wanna tell you that Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam Foundation changed my life. That it’s the most amazing foundation I’ve ever used, that it’s HG (holy grail)….

But that’s sadly not the case. The concept and idea are unique and interesting but it has quirks, lots of ’em.

Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam is an air infused mousse foundation. Maybelline proclaims how light, airy, and soft this is and on many levels indeed it is all those things. The concept is unique and new to the foundation world here in the Western Market (Korea and Japan have plenty of these mousse style foundations and even BB Creams in this format). Revlon also has a similar product available at the moment. Surprisingly this trend hit the drugstores first as you can’t find mousse (perhaps spray ones) at your favorite high end counters.

This comes in a can with a pump applicator. Shake it well. You’ve been warned. First use you need to shake it up well less you pump out what looks like a hair mousse. It seems that the tinted pigments end up towards the bottom of the foundation can and separate from the “mousse” therefore producing a white puffy cloud of mousse should you fail to shake the can enough. I find the pump a bit unforgiving in terms of the amount of product it distributes so there is a little waste here. Sorry blurry picture below, technical issues.

As with most drugstore foundations the main issue for me is the shade selection. Either they run too light, too beige, or too orange. All four cans I tried just seemed too orange-y beige and just unwearable on a whole.

I love the feel of the product, the idea of it, and the application. You merely have to dab your fingers into the small puff of mousse and smooth it onto your face (don’t try to smear an entire gob of this on, go slowly and build it up). I think the worst part of the product is the oily feel of it. I didn’t expect that at all. It has a very dewy finish and it builds very nastily. In contrast to the light as air formula it looks very mask-like once in place and gives dewy, unfinished results. I find it oxidizes quickly enough if it sticks around long enough on your face that is since it tends to migrate onto clothes or your collar during the wear time. Yak! The waster based formula is hydrating but the more you apply the oilier it becomes.

I have to say I really wanted to like this but the product leans more on selling you an innovating idea of a mousse foundation but sadly it lacks any quality to back up that interesting concept. The poor color selection, oily feel, and very poor wear time are just some of the negative aspects that make it a total skip.

Sadly, this one is meant for the rubbish bin.

Love the idea but the quality isn’t there to support it.
