Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss Review & Swatches

As you already know Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick has a limited edition collection of five shades of lipstick that the brand collaborated with Kate Moss on.

These come in a slick black tube with Kate’s named splashed across the packaging.

Let’s take a peek!

I’m not a huge Kate Moss fan but I think the lipsticks were well thought out packaging wise and have a certain elegance to them. These come in solid black with Kate’s name printed on the top part of the tube and a little heart. I imagine if you’re a fan of Kate’s you’ll find the packaging rather fun even for myself, being pretty impartial to Kate, I thought the packaging was rather nice.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick promises eight hours of continuous wear but honestly, it’s more like four at best if you can stand the cream, matte finish.

All five shades are creamy, matte finishes which have a lovely glide across lips. Granted that glide depends on how dry, chapped, or flaky your lips are. At the moment my lips are perfectly fine however on days they are dry that cool glide disappears rather quickly and I end up with a rather crusty, less than smooth look after application. The formula has an irritating way of emphasizing flaky or drier areas so I do imagine if your lips are dry due to aging or you have finer lines around your lip area this will bleed and fade into those areas quickly.

The wear has a lengthy four hour period (I couldn’t get it to go eight hours without looking bad) but within that time frame you’ll feel your lips become increasingly drier. The formula is unforgiving in the terms of moisture and hydration it provides, to be blunt it doesn’t really offer much moisture at all merely sucks out what moisture your lips do have.

On the plus side, they do have rich color pay off.

Overall, if you can cope with a matte, creamy finish that’s a bit on the drying side, you’ll enjoy these. Some folks enjoy matte, creamy finishes and this brings much of that to the table with a highly pigmented formula that’s quite lovely for a drugstore lipstick. But if your lips are a bit on the dry side already and less than smooth you possibly won’t love the finish or the wear time which is one for sucking moisture out of lips rather than providing it. One perk is Kate’s Collection has a good deal of lovely MLBB shades (my lips but better) to indulge in such as the two I swatched here.

I think these lippies will end up loved by many and you’ll run into a few folks they simply won’t work for, I happen to be one of those people.

If Kate’s Collection doesn’t have a shade for you you can check out the general catalog which has over 20 shades of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick to choose from.

thanks I usually reapply lipstick, so if these go on sale 😉 I’ll pick one up!!

  • Noelle

These did not work for me at all. I got #14, and it made me look like a corpse! =(

I’m glad I only paid $2.99,but I’ll be giving it to someone else.

I have #14 and I definitely have to say I agree with your review. I have drier lips but this formula is so pigmented I kind of forgive it. This is more of an effect kind of nude lipstick. Like Noelle said, you can look a lip corpse-like. But after high-end greasy nudes that didn’t cover my natural lip color at all, I think this is a great drugstore alternative. And I love the packaging. 🙂

Somehow I was under the impression that there was only a red one! I might try one of them out now. The price is right!

I got the dark purple, it didn’t go on well at all, and smelled like fruit punch. I would try another more in my comfort zone color, but I really never liked Hawaiian Punch.

aaah totally agree, i thought i was going crazy when i kept reading really positive reviews

I have 3 of these (red 01, coral 12 and either 14 or 08…can’t remember) I agree that they do go on a little dry but I always apply a clear balm first. That really seems to help. Plus it “tames” the coral one so it isn’t so shocking on me! :o)

14 was my very first nude lipstick! I loved the color, but I couldn’t stand how dry it was on my lips. AND THAT SMELL. I uncapped and left that lipstick out for THREE DAYS to try to de-scent it. It wouldn’t go away. The smell was honestly the only reason I threw it out and got Creme De Nude from MAC to replace it :(. I ended up getting Creme De Nude from MAC to replace it but even that wasn’t a prefect color 🙁

i didn’t get the smell lauren but agreed on the dryness ugh awful!

  • Esther

My lips are a bit on the drier side so, although the colours are lovely, I won’t try these. Thanks for the post, really useful 🙂

I like to apply C.O Bigelow lip cream over Rimmel lipstick as it’s not *gloss* so it doesn’t alter the finish but prevents my lips from drying out. I’m smitten with my No. 08. but I can really see these going either way.
