Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System Review
I was a little skeptical about the new Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System. I also had some reservations about this mascara slash extender.
First off, I don’t fare well with fiber mascaras. They make me feel like I have something in my eye or under my lid, etc…etc…they aren’t really comfortable needless to say.
Secondly, this does make some very intense claims such as 98% more lash volume and 42% lash length, when they start flinging numbers like that around I think we naturally become a little wary and skeptical if that product will actually work.
Well, I tried it, and the verdict is out.
You NEED this.
This is an interesting three step process that I thought I’d find challenging and perhaps even a little bit a pain to use. Think about it, three steps to apply mascara? That’s absurd, I have no time for that. But actually, it’s quick, it’s easy, it’s painless, it doesn’t take any more or less time than a normal mascara to apply and it gives instant results that look fabulous (to say the least).
Too Faced says that this is Ophthalmologist tested and contact lens approved but I do want to get it out there that it is a little bit irritating at first. If you typically have issues with fiber mascara you’ll understand what I mean. My first few tries with it I felt like I had something in my eye, the fibers are a very interesting texture (I’ll get into more detail about them shortly), and they kinda feel like spider webs or dust in your eye. It took me a little while to get completely on board with the system, I’m used to it now so do give a chance before writing it off completely.
The mascara formula is very lightweight as are the fibers. In fact, it’s so lightweight it will keep curl all day. This is a rarity among mascaras but indeed if you have issues with keeping curl, this will do so all day. The lighter texture doesn’t go stiff or crunchy which is also a plus.
Now using it….
How does it exactly work?
This is three steps however I added my own step prior to applying any part of the system and that would be curling your lashes prior. I always curl my lashes anyway (less I’m reviewing a mascara and taking before/after photos) so this isn’t a great chore. I recommend curling because this pulls all your lashes up and out and prepares them for the system. You don’t have to, as the results are just as nice without curling, but I do think it helps you get the longest results if you do (for this review I did not curl lashes so you could see the results without any interference from other products or tools used).
Now that your lashes are curled you’ll want to apply the mascara (gold tube) portion of the system first. Odd right? I naturally assumed they’d want me to apply the fiber first. Nope, they want you to brush through the mascara prior to anything else. The mascara portion is very basic, it creates longer lashes with a straight line brush and a lightweight formula, but results aren’t something to get too excited about. The magic happens when you apply the Nylon Lash Fibers.
The nylon lash fibers are so incredibly odd. I’ve never actually used a mascara primer like this before. When you pull the applicator out of the tube it looks like it’s coated with spider webs or dust. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it in all my years as a beauty junkie! Now the fun begins, you apply these fibers right on top of the mascara you just applied. I was thinking, wow this is going to be messy and screw up the fiber brush but actually no mascara transferred onto the fiber applicator. The mascara doesn’t stay “wet” so as you apply the fibers it’s a mess-free application. Ok, I must say, this was uncomfortable for me. I felt like I had something in my eye for a few seconds there. Try not to blink while you’re applying and try not to blink until you can follow up with the mascara again. Yup, that’s right, more mascara. Stroke the fibers on and be sure to concentrate on the tips of your lashes for the best results now follow up with another coating of the mascara (gold tube) and you’re done.
Results?
Amazingly long lashes. Wow. My photos below do not do justice to the mascara at all so I took a full size image just so you can see how full my lashes look. It creates some seriously long lashes. Volume is good but I think the most noticeable results are the length. Indeed, you’ll be sporting some glamorously longer lashes.
Overall, the new Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System takes some getting used to. I’m not going to lie, I felt like I had something in my eye during the application and after, that’s just fiber mascara for ya! But I got used to it slowly and now I can honestly say I’ll re-purchase this again, it’s incredible! The results are some of the best in terms of longer lashes that I’ve gotten from any mascara I’ve ever purchased.
