Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System Review

I was a little skeptical about the new Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System. I also had some reservations about this mascara slash extender.

First off, I don’t fare well with fiber mascaras. They make me feel like I have something in my eye or under my lid, etc…etc…they aren’t really comfortable needless to say.

Secondly, this does make some very intense claims such as 98% more lash volume and 42% lash length, when they start flinging numbers like that around I think we naturally become a little wary and skeptical if that product will actually work.

Well, I tried it, and the verdict is out.

You NEED this.

This is an interesting three step process that I thought I’d find challenging and perhaps even a little bit a pain to use. Think about it, three steps to apply mascara? That’s absurd, I have no time for that. But actually, it’s quick, it’s easy, it’s painless, it doesn’t take any more or less time than a normal mascara to apply and it gives instant results that look fabulous (to say the least).

Too Faced says that this is Ophthalmologist tested and contact lens approved but I do want to get it out there that it is a little bit irritating at first. If you typically have issues with fiber mascara you’ll understand what I mean. My first few tries with it I felt like I had something in my eye, the fibers are a very interesting texture (I’ll get into more detail about them shortly), and they kinda feel like spider webs or dust in your eye. It took me a little while to get completely on board with the system, I’m used to it now so do give a chance before writing it off completely.

The mascara formula is very lightweight as are the fibers. In fact, it’s so lightweight it will keep curl all day. This is a rarity among mascaras but indeed if you have issues with keeping curl, this will do so all day. The lighter texture doesn’t go stiff or crunchy which is also a plus.

Now using it….

How does it exactly work?

This is three steps however I added my own step prior to applying any part of the system and that would be curling your lashes prior. I always curl my lashes anyway (less I’m reviewing a mascara and taking before/after photos) so this isn’t a great chore. I recommend curling because this pulls all your lashes up and out and prepares them for the system. You don’t have to, as the results are just as nice without curling, but I do think it helps you get the longest results if you do (for this review I did not curl lashes so you could see the results without any interference from other products or tools used).

Now that your lashes are curled you’ll want to apply the mascara (gold tube) portion of the system first. Odd right? I naturally assumed they’d want me to apply the fiber first. Nope, they want you to brush through the mascara prior to anything else. The mascara portion is very basic, it creates longer lashes with a straight line brush and a lightweight formula, but results aren’t something to get too excited about. The magic happens when you apply the Nylon Lash Fibers.

The nylon lash fibers are so incredibly odd. I’ve never actually used a mascara primer like this before. When you pull the applicator out of the tube it looks like it’s coated with spider webs or dust. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it in all my years as a beauty junkie! Now the fun begins, you apply these fibers right on top of the mascara you just applied. I was thinking, wow this is going to be messy and screw up the fiber brush but actually no mascara transferred onto the fiber applicator. The mascara doesn’t stay “wet” so as you apply the fibers it’s a mess-free application. Ok, I must say, this was uncomfortable for me. I felt like I had something in my eye for a few seconds there. Try not to blink while you’re applying and try not to blink until you can follow up with the mascara again. Yup, that’s right, more mascara. Stroke the fibers on and be sure to concentrate on the tips of your lashes for the best results now follow up with another coating of the mascara (gold tube) and you’re done.

Results?

Amazingly long lashes. Wow. My photos below do not do justice to the mascara at all so I took a full size image just so you can see how full my lashes look. It creates some seriously long lashes. Volume is good but I think the most noticeable results are the length. Indeed, you’ll be sporting some glamorously longer lashes.

Overall, the new Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System takes some getting used to. I’m not going to lie, I felt like I had something in my eye during the application and after, that’s just fiber mascara for ya! But I got used to it slowly and now I can honestly say I’ll re-purchase this again, it’s incredible! The results are some of the best in terms of longer lashes that I’ve gotten from any mascara I’ve ever purchased.

Love this mascara! I am actually going to try a different black mascara for the third step.

    • the Muse

you can most def do that angela, excellent idea by the way as you may even get more drama using something like Dior Blackout, or something! ;-D

  • Agata

My only worry is that I normally use a waterproof mascara. Do you think it would still work for me?

    • the Muse

I didn’t have smearing issues/fading/flaking agata but I guess it depends on how oily your skin is around your eyes.

  • Littlecreek

Is that full size pic the results without curling??? Even if you did curl, holy cow they look amazing!! You have definately convinced me that I need this!!

    • the Muse

I didn’t curl for the review littlecreek ;-D mentioned in the post I skipped the step since it would kinda be misleading how the mascara works if I did curl. Hope this helps! ;-D

  • Agata

It’s not oily at all, my eyes are just pretty sensitive and they water easily. Even when I laugh hard, I cry, lol. But maybe if I apply a waterproof mascara as the last layer it would work. I really want to try it.

    • the Muse

i didn’t have any issues with smearing agata, hopefully you won’t either once you try it 🙂

  • MelissaF

Want.. Want baaaadddd….I have thick lashes, so length is the thing I look for.
I already use Maybelline’s fiber lash mascara, so I think this wouldn’t bother me too much.

  • Jeanne

I have super sensitive eyes that water a lot so I can only wear tubing mascaras since they don’t smudge/smear, I wonder if this fiber system is similar. I might have to give it a try!

  • Tina

So, mascara, fibers, then mascara again? Is that correct?

So the little white fibers aren’t visible when you apply another coating of mascara?

Sorry for all the questions but I’m intrigued!

    • the Muse

mascara first, fibers, and mascara again. Nope, white fibers aren’t visible after you coat them with mascara the second round 🙂

  • Cathryn

    THIS IS SO WEIRD.

I usually don’t buy high end mascaras, but your before/after pics have me entranced.

  • Allison

OMG I need this! Did you have problems getting it off with makeup remover? I usually have a hard time removing fiber mascaras.

  • Jes

Holy cr@p. I was going to stop my cosmetic buying frenzy…but I just ordered this, along with my fave waterproof mascara. Your lashes look freaking amazing!

  • Mandi

Curious on how it will feel, because I wear contacts. And you said it feels like something is in your eye. Not sure if I would like that feeling but the results do look amazing on you.

  • LeAnn

This system gave me the best lashes of my LIFE! My lashes are normally longish, but they were literally to my brow bone when I tried this! And it lasted all day, AMAZING.

  • Lauren

I read about something similar years ago. I think it was a Tweezerman product, of all things. Definitely a dry fiber thing. I’ve kind of vaguely thought about it like, “Oh, I really should try that!” for… a decade or so. 🙂 One question: sometimes I don’t like mascara primer because I like my lashes to be fuller at the base. Did this allow for some tapering at the ends, or no? I can’t tell from your picture. Which, by the way, is amazing!

  • Melissa

Dry fibers like this are sold alone by other brands. I have some from Jan Irredele but they are old and $28 bucks for just the fibers. I think that I might need this mascara more than the new shadow palette. Thank your for this in depth review.

  • Kristin

*wipes drool from chin* I MUST HAVE THIS!! Almost makes my beloved imju fiberwig look like child’s play. This is def on my shopping list for the upcoming VIB sale! Gorgeous lashes Musey!

  • Angel

Ok, I so wanted this after seeing your pics. Your lashes really do look great, long and feathery. But what the what??? $35?? Me no likey that price. But it looks great on you muse.

  • Valeria

Thanks for reviewing this! You have convinced me and I will be purchasing this soon! 🙂

  • Devon

    Oh wow.
I saw pictures of this released a few weeks ago and thought, “is that fluff on the brush or is it white liquid?” I really didn’t get it.
This seems so, so weird. I have very sensitive eyes and I don’t think I’d be able to deal with the fibers, but the results are stunning.

How does it compare to Fairydrops for fiber irritation? I can handle Fairydrops so if it is close I may try this. I am like MelissaF in that I have thick lashes and want to boost length.

  • Lisa

The only thing is on the second pic, I can see the spider web fibers on your lashes. is this before the last mascaa coat or after

  • jennifer Lee

I wonder how this compares to Fiberwig, a similar type of mascara. Have you tried both, Muse?

  • Jnnlopez

Ice never used tubing or fiber mascaras but this definitely makes me want to try this one! I MUST HAVE IT. Awesome review.

  • Ruthless

I bought the Talika version at Sephora, it’s only 27 for the fiber extensions although they are dark

  • Adriana

I dont buy high end mascaras either, but your lashes look spectacular in your pics! So now im seriously thinking on buying this miracle set! Thanx for your honest good reviews =)

    • the Muse

my pleasure adriana I think you’ll really like it, hope you’ll stop back if you get it and lmk what you think!

  • Laura H

Great review! I’m definitely really intrigued by this. Do you think it would work using a different mascara and just using the fibers?

    • the Muse

thanks laura 🙂 I’m sure you could use your own mascara if you want but seems awful expensive to splurge and not use the mascara and just the fibers 🙂

  • tiny

Holy cow! you have like… 3x as many lashes in the after photo!!! O.O

  • Larie

Holy smokes, that’s impressive. Maybe I’ll have to give this a shot!
