KATE Eyeshadow Primer Base Summer 2012

I’m currently seeking out a new eyeshadow primer as I’m swearing to the primer Gods above that Urban Decay Primer Potion’s formula has changed. It just doesn’t work for me anymore and the formula feels utterly different.

That said…

I’m seeking out something new and Japanese Brand KATE’s new Eyeshadow Primer for Summer 2012 sounds like a good place to start.

Releasing in Japan tomorrow, KATE Eyeshadow Primer will be available in a shimmery gold shade and a natural beige. The formula promises to prep and prime eyes for shadow.

Each pot is 997 yen each.

I’ll be picking up both and reviewing them shortly.

I doubt they’ll take the place of my beloved Urban Decay but it’s a start!

What are you priming with at the moment?

    hey muse 🙂

i use the NARS smudgeproof primer, have you tried it/does it not work well for you? can’t wait to read the review on this 🙂

    • the Muse

hey libby, I reviewed/tried it but wasn’t too impressed 🙁 gotta def find something to replace my beloved UDPP!

  • Tammie

I don’t really like potted primers, but I did find one I really like! The Laura Mercier one (I don’t know if it’s called a primer, but it works great at it). I got it in Linen and I love how it brightens my eye area alone if I want it to~. I’m so pale anything else is darker…sometimes it even looks off under eyeshadow.

I can’t wait to read your review though 🙂

tammie, those are great, I have all the shades (maybe I’m missing one?) and they work fab ;-D to brighten the lid up!

      • Tammie

Yeah, it’s great :). I haven’t used it on it’s own yet, but I love that it looks brighter under the shadow, so it’s not obvious that I have primer underneath like other tinted primers that are darker than my skin.

  • Suzie

I used UDPP for years and it worked for me and then all of a sudden it didn’t. It didn’t seem like I could find anything that worked (I tried the Tarte one, and one from L’oreal, and I think a few others) and when I got the Nars one and it worked I was so happy and blown away. At that point I had kind of given up on wearing eyeshadow for awhile, that is how lamed out I was with stupid primers. Sorry that the Nars one didn’t work for you though Muse!

    • the Muse

same same same suzie. formula has changed I swear on my makeup life it’s changed! I really like the tarte one but the formula still isn’t my cuppa, I want something a little less hydrating. awwwww that’s awful! sorry to hear it! Naa nars just wasn’t my deal 🙁

  • Cj

I use Clarins instant light eye perfecting base (that’s a mouthful isn’t it lol). But It’s great primer, shadow goes on soooo smoothly ontop of it it’s crazy. Plus it’s a click pen packaging 🙂

    • the Muse

i love eye perfecting base, it also works great on its own to lighten up the lid ;-D but sadly…I’m still looking for a formula like UDPP 🙁 something lighter.

    • the Muse

i love that one too jennifer ;-D good stuff def use it daily. but still searching ;-D!

I had told my mother I’d read (on your blog) the UDPP formula was different when she ran out of her old one. She mentioned it to the Sephora assoc. who seemed surprised hearing this and said she hadn’t noticed any difference.

So, my mom got the new one, and the next week told me “Yep, it’s different and doesn’t work as well”. She thinks it’s more runny/thin. So, you called it!

I’ve been using Two Faced Shadow Insurance, which works well for me. I recommended it to my mom but she tried it and didn’t like it. I’ll be interested when/if you find something new, as I bet my mom would like that one as well!

    • the Muse

exactly lulu! much thinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your mom is right! I’m the same as your mom, I really don’t like TFSI. I’ll def give the good word if I find something I do love. Temporarily I’m using NYX Eyeshadow Primer, it’s almost as great as UDPP you might wanna rec it to your mom, but the formula is a little more moisturizing than I like in a primer!

  • Justine

Hi Muse! I’m not sure if the formula of UDPP has changed, but rather the consistency is different since I believe the sponge tip applicator might soak up some of its oiliness/runny-ness. I have a genie bottle version and the new squeeze tube version, and I’ve noticed that the consistency of the squeeze tube one is rather strange. Sometimes it’s watery and other times it’s a lot thicker. I feel like I have to shake the tube up but even then the texture is variable. Have you had this problem? The inconsistency definitely makes me want to try out a new primer.

    • the Muse

justine…yup! all those problems. Consistency in the tube turns a little hard and dense after a few uses and sometimes it’s watery and oily like TFSI. Other times I run into a more oily finish with the genie tube. It’s just overall very inconsistent…formula feels changed to me as well in the genie tube, not as matte as it was and more oily/runny now :-/ I dunno, just feels like an entirely new product to me le sigh!

      • Melissa

ditto. I use the nyx one but its not as matte as like. I also use TSFI. I really smush the tube around before I open it and use it and this helps with the oily stuff, the lemon one is my favorite.

  • Littlecreek

NARS. I get 12-14 hours wear out of it without creasing. Maybe it’s just my particular eye chemistry, but that stuff is HG for me.

  • Quinctia

Your thoughts on the consistency changing led me to snapping up some backups of Sin and Greed in the old packaging the last time it was on HauteLook! Though, I’ve been using the same tube of Greed nearly daily for a year, I might not have much to worry about. We’ll have superfuturisitic space primer by the time I use up all my UDPP in genie bottles.

However, I did try the stuff in the mini squeezy tube that came in BoS IV, and that seemed all right to me. It’s a tiny tube, especially compared to that first “professional size” tube.

    • the Muse

lol quinctia! I hear ya! I stocked up on genie tubes myself.

  • Keri

This is all very sad to me!!! I love UDPP and just discovered it in the last 6 months or so!!! Luckily I have a ton of the old genie bottles so maybe I won’t have to worry about this issue for a long time.

  • K

I think I will get the beige one . hey it’s from Kate, so I guess it should be pretty good ^^

  • KS

You might wanna try the Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer! I love this much more than UDPP and Too Faced! 🙂

  • D-tan

I haven’t tried the KATE eyeshadow base but I am using the BB Gel Cream from Spring 2012 and it’s definitely a winner! So I definitely have high hopes for this product and waiting to see how you like it 😀
