MAC Tres Cheek Review & Swatches Lovecloud, Modern Mandarin, Peony Petal

MAC Tres Cheek is a selection of six shades of satiny blush to add to your Spring and Summer palette.

Oh so smooth, oh so easy to blend…me likey!

I thought I’d be terribly disappointed with the satiny finishes on these. Let’s face I’m the self titled shimmer queen around these parts but satin is nice sometimes. Although chalky in swatches these lovely little blushes have a smooth easy to blend formula. The joy is the buildability…I made that word up, well maybe not, some makeup company did. These go from sheer to extra bright in a few pats of your blush easily, flawlessly, simply.

If I’m honest, I’ll say in the pan many of these shades look a bit boring and uneventful. The formula is a tad chalky on swatch and looks almost semi-matte in formula however they blend out so beautifully and build in a snap for a brighter more vibrant pay off than what you’re seeing in the pot. Moral of the story?

Looks are oh so deceiving!

Modern Mandarin is my favorite in the lot, me being all obsessed with oranges at the moment that’s no surprise. It’s a reddish orange that goes on delightfully peachy on my medium fair skin.

Other shades I tried out were Lovecloud a bright pink with a sheerer formula that would prove loveliest on fairer skin and Peony Petal which is a brighter blue based pink.

The joy of the MAC Tres Cheek Collection is a selection of easy to apply, hard to over do blush shades!

Love!

I need to get to my local counter to snatch up Immortal Flower before it’s gone, I need that one.

Muse Approved for purchase.

This collection is a win.

A small, precise selection of lovely shades for Spring and Summer.

It is a great collection. Too bad all the prettiest shades are already sold out everywhere 🙁

  • JenJ

Your swatches are SO much better than some I’ve seen! I only picked up Modern Mandarin because I wasn’t sure of the others due to the swatches I saw. Do you the other blushes will flatter a deeper skin tone?

    • the Muse

aw man that warms my heart girl I always fear my swatches are the worst 🙁 I haven’t tried the other three but but the ones here I’d say:

Modern Mandarin: great for olive, tanned, and medium fair might be too bright for super porcelain skin but with a fan brush and a light hand could work.
Peony Petal: Def lovely for most skin types, might be a little sheer for olive/tanned but builds up very well.
Lovely Cloud: lovely for fair skin, has a touch of warmth as well so can be used in either a warm or cooler look.

      😀

No ma’am your swatches are great! Hmmmm. Now you got me thinking. Peony Petal is tempting me. *hides wallet* lol!

jeepers thanks agata I always feel the lighting is bad, shaky hand, etc ;D you guys are GREAT for my ego HUGS!

These swatched deeper on my hand as well. I tried Modern Mandarin and it was BRIGHT on hand but on my cheeks with a brush and done lightly I can wear it. And I am pretty pale. It’ll be nice for summer with a bronzed look.

Of course , like you, I am all about shimmer too, so what’s really got me is In Extra Dimension. I can wear Glorify as a blush and I LOVE it.

    • the Muse

agreed ;-D they swatch deep but apply beautifully light! How are you btw!? long time no speak!

  • Gale

your swatches made me want to purchase Peony Petal and Love cloud…And i love the fact that’s it is buildable ^_^

  • aquahartz

Modern Mandarin & Lovecloud are pretty. Cant wait to see ur wearing these, Muse.
I totally absolutely agree with JenJ above about ur swatches. The best I’ve seen so far.

  • yelena

the modern mandarin looks gorgeous! how would u compare it to tarte’s shimmering poppy (which i received yesterday and i really like)

    • the Muse

two shades are completely different yelena, absolutely nothing alike hun.

thanks muse, i have been boycotting MAC for their poor customer service at the nearest location but I may have to give in .

I LOVE this collection. The only shades I didn’t buy were the lavender (frost) shade and the Mandarin shade. I love all four shades that I purchased. I was afraid the Pink Tea would be too beige, but the Mac girl at the counter told me it goes on pinker than it looks and it does. I also bought Pink Cult from the Reel Sexy collection, which I also like a lot. Since these are limited editions, I bought backups of some of these shades. I saw they were sold out pretty fast on Mac’s website, but they have them back in stock now. Yesterday I wore Immortal Flower and although it looks very peach in the case, it goes on more “pinky” peach, which made me happy because I love those shades. Don’t hesitate to purchase these. If the shades look light, they are definitely buildable.

mandarin is PRETTY joan you should have gotten it, with a fan brush it applies lovely ;-D I love pinky peach shades too, I’m wearing Glisten today (tarte)

Well……this afternoon I ordered the mandarin from Nordstrom’s. My Macy’s Mac counter is sold out. The swatch does look pretty. I don’t have a fan brush, but do have a duo fibre blush brush which should work for a light touch.

        • the Muse

fibre brush works great Joan! ;-D lmk what you think when it arrives!

          • Joan Andruszkewicz

Muse, you were soooo right!!! I love the mandarin shade. I just got it. I’m so glad I was still able to get it. If I knew, I would have gotten it weeks ago with the other four shades that I bought from the collection, but for some reason, I thought it was a shade I wouldn’t like. Boy was I wrong! Haven’t worn it yet, but I know I’ll love it as much when I wear it. Thanks for letting me know how PRETTY it is.

noooooo it’s gorgeous joan and glad you didn’t miss out. I think it was the prettiest of the release! ;-D My pleasure! so glad you got it before it was gone! use a light hand, it’ll make you glow girl! xoxoxoxoxo <3!
