NYX Matte Black Liner Review & Swatches

NYX Matte Black Liner serves some purpose, not one I know of, but I know somewhere out there, a woman (or man) is wishing for a matte black eyeliner.

No seriously, matte liners have their place even though it is a slightly unique/obscure product. They look considerably more polished and elegant on eyes if you’re going for that Dita look.

But they also have issues….

This retractable eyeliner resembles MAC Technakohl in appearance.

This is indeed a matte eyeliner so the formula runs a bit drier. The finish is polished and more refined than a creamier eyeliner. I’m not sure how many of you use the old trick of lining with a pencil and topping your lined look with black eyeshadow to give it more pop…if you know what I mean, this basically produces the same effect.

I think the downside of the product is the matte formula proves to be drying. The drier formula applies with a fair bit of tugging involved and doesn’t have an easy glide like a more creamier eyeliner would sadly.

I personally didn’t like this one due to that tugging as I felt like I had to go back over the liner a few times to fill in areas because it skipped along my lash line creating a messy, uneven line. I also felt like the color pay off was a bit lacking as well, producing a duller black rather than a richer one.

Overall, some folks might have need of a matte liner for a more refined look or if you’re a chronic black liner user sans eyeshadow, etc…it could prove a handy tool to have in your arsenal. But I think most others will agree that the tugging and dry formula isn’t a pleasant eyeliner experience.

What do you think of a matte eyeliner?

I go for such a thin line with black liner, that the finish wouldn’t really be noticeable! So if it tugs, I think I’ll pass on even trying it.

Not a huge black liner wearer, and I have enough UD Zeros from eyeshadow palettes that I’m good for years on it! 🙂

^Totally agree with Quinctia that I have enough UD Zero pencils to last until the next millenium. That being said, I still bought the NYX liner and was disappointed. Dull color and it was very dry. Kat Von D makes a matte liquid liner that is better at achieving that Dita look (love Dita BTW!).

I loved this liner except it didn’t come with a sharpener or anything and I used the sharpener from another liner and it just doesn’t work like it did the first few times I used it :[
