About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I somehow imagine a youtube guru going, “Now take this colour in ‘Lap Dance’ ” with a serious face.

I bought it without reading the name and only realized later, in horror, what it was called lol. It’s a very beautiful color though!

I so agree about the matte shadow! Most that I have tried are too dry and hard to work with. Some older people or people with a lot of wrinkles around their eyes may not want sparkle but a satin finish looks so much better to me than a matte one. When I worked for Merle Norman Cosmetics I hated applying matte shadows and it was harder to smooth it out over the wrinkles in my opinion. VIVA LA SPARKLE!

  • Cas

Oh man, I don’t know if its cause I’m a grease ball or because I’m oliveish toned, but I love me some matte eyeshadows.. And lipsticks! I can’t wait to haul a huge order from CherryCulture! 🙂

    • Sarah S.

Sounds like me! I also love matte finishes because it makes for less trashy smoky eye, a no-makeup contoured eye look great for any situation, or bright colors being more true (because they aren’t reflecting so much light)!

  • Ruth

guurrrlll! you ain’t old! cuz if you’re old, that’s means i’m old, and i ain’t old!! haha!!

    • the Muse

LOL ruth! we are OLD bish! we need to stop our comic book buying, late night gaming, incredibly geeky ways. it’s time to grow up now and act matures. repeat after me, I is mature lady…I won’t wear sparkle eyeshadow….

      ha! frak that.

      • the Muse

ps it’s happy hour, new manga releases today LOL! oh my god I’ll never grow up. horror!

        • Ruth

heh, was just at the comic shop this last weekend, wearing my new Wonder Woman chucks (cuz they are awesome!!) and picked up: hell yeah! (the authors were there, so they’re signed too!) a vs x, alpha girl, morning glories trade 2, crossed and the stuff of legend trade 2. and a few more…

I’s a mature lady wearing cat shoes to work, who will now from this point forward will only wear beige, get my hair cut to a length that is befitting my age. I will go to bed at 9:30 every evening…

who am I lying too?? hate beige, getting my hair cut on a regular basis interferes with my reading, nerd time. I WILL WEAR SPARKLES WHEN I WANT TO!!! I REFUSE TO ACT MY AGE!!!

I read a really funny article a while back about the “riot grrrls” getting old. I was never a “riot grrrl” but being college-age in that time really made me relate to the article and that age group. While I’ve mellowed out a bit as I’ve gotten older (thank God) I refuse to conform and behave to what is supposed to be “mature” for me as I turn 43 for me this year. This includes the makeup that I’m “supposed” to wear. Actually the only thing I’ve really given up for good since my college days are my Chucks, I collected them too but they have absolutely NO arch support! 🙁

        • the Muse

you’re around my sister’s age michelle! 😉 I’m the same, I’ve never actually conformed to society’s idea of how I should act, dress, etc…;-D why should we? lol true on the chucks, but sadly, can never give them up!

          • Ruth

@ michelle but, but chucks are awesome! you can always put an insert and make them have arch support. Muse and I are ardent lovers of the shoe and they make them even more nifty. some have sparkles, or Dr. Seuss themes, comics, and rainbows of color choices to chose from.

          • Michelle

@Ruth: That is a great idea and one that I’ve considered. I have so many lemmings for makeup, I guess I’m going to have to start a lemmings list again for Chucks as well! 🙂

  • Emily

I like matte shadows but just from looking down the list, I HATE the names… seriously.. “I have a headache”? ugh.

I wish companies would get over this trend of the trashy innuendo names. It’s tacky.

I won’t be buying these shadows.

  • isabella

I think matte shadows are harder to work with so even though I am “older” than the muse 🙂 I dont care for them, sometimes they look “muddy.

one sweep as a base is all I can do

    • the Muse

i agree they are terribly difficult to work with!! Everyone constantly recommends them for aging eyes…but NOOOO I don’t want them ;-D I don’t care how old I am, I’ll be wearing shimmer in my 80’s ;-D

  • Tigress

Same here, Musey. I’m 30 and I can’t get into matte shadows. Shimmer is where it’s at for me!

  • Suzanne

Only time I like mattes is in the crease and sometimes the browbone. It adds more dimension ..but gimme a satin or sparkly eyeshadow to wake up my tired eyes anyday!

  • Daniela

I could see getting these if they could depot into my mac palettes and be a cheap alt for some of my mac blending and eyebrow shades….def need to swatch first

  • Tinkibell

I am almost (oh God…can it really be!?!) 40 and HATE the articles that say I should be wearing matte shadows. To me they really age you if they aren’t done well. And man, I can not do them well! lol

As I’ve gotten older I reach for the cream shadows (bless lid primers!) and find that they brighten my eyes and work much better at making me look younger.

And since I have been mistaken for being in my LATE 20’s by everyone from the Clinique counter lady, to the 19 year olds in my college classes and even my new Doctor…I am sticking with them!! lol

    • the Muse

some are but really really rare I come across a matte I like, totally relate tinkibell! LOL hell that’s BRILLIANT!
