Sephora Be You Lip Stain Review & Swatches

Sephora Be You Lip Stain is a new gel lip stain inspired with a tangerine-inspired color. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is a new product. Sephora has done lip gels and stains in the past but not one that was tangerine in color nor one that was self adjusting.

I was fairly curious about a self adjusting shade of tangerine so I purchased it.

Take a look!

This is fabulous. The formula is spot on with a cooling gel-like texture. The packaging is simple, basic, and to the point with a sponge applicator. The slightly glossy finish is lovely and the wear time of the gloss might be a bit brief but the stain sticks around for hours after application.

The jelly-like finish and texture of the product is very refreshingly and lightweight for the warmer weather. Sephora created it with a self adjusting formula that’s supposed to change to your perfect shade but there isn’t any clarification if they mean a perfect shade in general or a perfect shade of tangerine.

At first I was a little upset because it changes to a really bright shade of pink on my lips with a little bit of orange to it (you have to stare really hard to see that orange though). I expected it to turn into my perfect shade of orange….but it isn’t marketed as such I realized.

Sephora merely states that it was inspired by tangerine in color but isn’t technically supposed to change to that color merely that it will be a “a light wash of color that perfectly matches your skin tone”. Guess my skin tone screams bright fuchsia pink!

It’s quite nice for $12 bucks and achieves what many higher end brands market at a higher price but yeah, I was kinda disappointed that it wasn’t a perfect shade of me orange.

Tried it?

Yes, it’s bright pink, but it’s a really nice shade for you. Maybe those color changing scientists know something. 🙂

I saw this and actually decided to wait for your review. I think I’ll skip this since I too wanted an orange/coral shade.

yes but as with most self adjusting things – they usually turn pink. LOL

This is a NICE pink though.

I assumed it would be orange too! At least the pink shade is nice.

That’s so funny – I tried it and it actually DID turn a pale shade of coral/tangerine/orange on me. I actually went in to pick up the Fresh Sugar Coral lip tint, but this felt so nice (love the texture) and the color was pretty similar – and it’s half the price. Win/Win! Yay!
