Sephora Color of the Year Prisma Chrome Blush Review & Swatches

I do believe, don’t quote me, that the Sephora Color of the Year Prisma Chrome Blush in Apricot Brandy is a little sneak peek of what’s to come from Sephora.

I’m taking bets that this Summer or into Fall 2012 we’ll see more shades of Sephora Prisma Chrome Blush and if that’s the case, I’ll indulge.

I got my Sephora Color of the Year Prisma Chrome Blush with the purchase of the Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Collectors Set but you can purchase it all its own for $16.

This comes in a small, chunky white packaging that resembles that of the new Prisma Eyeshadows. I don’t favor this packaging for the blush in all honesty as I think it is too small to get at with a nice bushy brush. A bigger, square compact would have been easier to use in my humblest.

The design is much like the Prisma Eyeshadows as well but is that of a raised, 3D swirl versus the wave design of the shadows. It’s a visual pleasure to look out from all aspects. Packaging, the color of the blush, and the pretty design all draw the eye and capture the imagination with looks you can create using it.

It’s a little deceiving in the pan as well as in swatches as it comes across as a sparkling peachy orange but applies as an orange sparkle. It also swatches incredibly pigmented but applies sheerer with more sparkle than color pay off. If sparkle in blushes isn’t your thing I’d avoid it, it has a healthy dose of golden sparkle that does give off a disco ball finish if you aren’t careful.

I was somewhat hopeful the shade would perform as well as Tarte Glisten in the fact that you would get a more refined finish to the sparkle but sadly, that’s not really the case as the sparkle is more hardcore in your face.

Apologies I sound like I am ranting about the blush when I do like it very much.

I think a little tender, loving, care and patience is needed for application as you want to build the color up but not so much so that you end up with a ton of sparkle on your face. This proves difficult at times so patience and time is key for the correct application. The wear time seems very strong, I’m heading into hour 7 almost without any signs of fading which is promising.

Overall, Sephora Color of the Year Prisma Chrome Blush is a delightful little shade but not quite what I expected. I thought it would apply more golden peach coral but I’m not terribly disappointed. I think the packaging deserves a re-think should they release more shades as you really do need some working space to get a brush around the pan. I also think the amount of sparkle can be intimating and possibly off putting for some. A little more pigment and a little less glittery goodness would make it perfect.

It’s gorgeous though, needless to say!

Think this would world well as an eyeshadow muse? I purchased the Pantone set and don’t really like shimmery blushes but thought it might work for eyeshadow. What do you think?

  • joolz

I have this one! i do not normally purchase Sephora items, but I was convinced by BTiB. I also find it sparkly, but it does apply very sheerly. as i’m medium toned, this works with my skintone very well and i am surprised i liked it too.
there is also a blush duo. i tried this on instore and was surprised that the non-shimmer side, which looks scary in the pan, applied nicely pink and gave me a nice glow.

By the way, there was confusion by the sephora SAs. They also think this one is an eyeshadow when clearly on the box it says blush!

That looks so pretty on you!! I hope you’re right about them unveiling more colors in this line! It would be nice to see a wild raspberry or some purples!

    • the Muse

thanks southern gorgeous! I’d love to see a raspberry! maybe more peaches too!

if it weren’t for the sparklies in it, I’d have snapped it up in a minute, but it was *sparkly* not shimmery – I looked like I had glitter sprinkled on me… it’s a spectacular color, but I didn’t indulge b/c of the glittery bits in it… SO disappointing.. If they’d ditch that, they would have a sure winner ! Iff someone wants glitter on the face, it’s easy enough to add it, but you can’t take it away. Le sigh, as the Muse would say….

the sparkle is def a deciding factor kim and girl there is a lot of it here ;D!

i did buy this, and i agree, its a bit tricky to get the right amount of color and intensity! i like using a smaller brush to grab the product and stipple it on. 🙂

what i do like is it translates to a more wearable cheek color than omgorange as it looks like on the pan.

      • kikai

i did. im so weak LOL.

i didnt buy the set because i just knew i wouldnt use the lip products. im really more a tinted lipbalm kinda gal!

  • gabriella

I think you pull off the sparkle quite well 🙂 you’re glowing Muse!

  • Paula

The one that comes in the set is the same size as the one sold alone?

    • the Muse

yup 🙂 reviewed the set and mentioned that Paula, take a look at the set review and I go into detail about the size and such hun

Hello! I’ve seriously spent the last 2 hours on this fine friday night just browsing your blog, I love it! So relatable as a fellow beauty junkie 🙂 I’m glad you put your review about this blush, because in my honest opinion, even in mid 2014, it is still one of my most favorite blushes. EVER. I have medium/deep, tan, golden undertone skin, and this meshes so well with my skintone since other blushes either look muddy or just ‘sits’ on my cheeks. The warm orange/coral gives me a glow like no other, and my sisters always use it too. It actually shows up like NARS ‘Orgasm’ with more shimmer but I like that finish anyways. It kinda doubles as blush/highlighter for me so I honestly thought it was a steal!
