Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12 Hour Smoothing Eye Primer Review & Swatches

Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12 Hour Smoothing Eye Primer say that three times fast. That’s some long name there! Phew. My fingers hurt from typing it out.

The joy in the new Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12 Hour Smoothing Eye Primer is the fact it acts to hold shadows in place as well as prepping under your eyes for concealer.

Nifty eh?

Does it work?

Check it out.

I hate creamy primers.

I don’t technically apply eye cream on my lids or anywhere on my eye other than under them. At some point, as I age, I imagine I’ll have to start worrying about those areas but as of now I’m not only not concerned about the area but also just don’t like the way eye cream feels on my lids.

Mmm no likey.

I guess my skin is fairly normal around the lid area which is ironic because under it I’m quite dry.

I was a little skeptical of Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12 Hour Smoothing Eye Primer but I just wasn’t interested in using it all around my eye nor did I like the creamier formula. Typically, cream primers like this, rarely work. I think eye primer has to have a certain thickness to it for them to work best and of course, lacking a hydrating and/or creamy formula.

Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12 Hour Smoothing Eye Primer takes most of what I think an eye primer should be and tosses it out the window. If you can get past the creamier formula, it’s all awesomeness…

The texture on this is that of a creamy, lightweight eye cream. Mmm not my ideal primer formula as I mentioned. My first try with it I stuck to applying on my lid only. It slides on in a hydrating way that I was sincerely not keen on and proceeded to have a dewy finish for a while. I waited for it to dry down before applying powder on it. I was pleasantly surprised that it applies with a hydrating feel, has a certain dewiness, but dries down to a soft, powdery matte finish. Count me impressed as I was truly worried it would remain dewy for a good long while but the dry down after blending out is about 5-10 seconds at most. Does it hold shadow in place? Why, yes, it does! It holds shadow on as strong as Urban Decay Primer Potion. Again, I was shocked. For something so creamy you’d expect it to have little to no hold but it seems to build just the right layer on my skin for shadow to adhere and hold on to.

After a few testing days with it above my eye I decided to go 360 and started using it to prep under my eyes as well. It works rather well as a nifty hydrating eye cream prior to concealer. It fills minor fine lines nicely while hydrating the area and prepping it for concealer. Concealer seems to adhere nicely to the surface once it dries down which in turn allows it to last longer! Nifty!

Overall, Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless 12 Hour Smoothing Eye Primer is a little bit of an intimating formula at first try but after a few uses I can honestly say I like it. It’ll hold eyeshadow on all day and works a treat at aiding your concealer to apply easier and to stick around longer too!

What more could a girl want from her eyeshadow primer?

Loves it!

I got this during the VIB sale and already it’s my new go to. I really really like it. For me this trumps UDPP and Stay Don’t Stray by miles, since both burn my eyes.

And I’ve noticed my eyeshadows are just as vibrant if not more than they are with UDPP. Score!

    Hey Muse,

Would you say this is good for oily eyes since it does matte down afterwards?

    • the Muse

that’s debatable nucleii. I actually wouldn’t try it for oily lids, there are better options available for an oily lid…!
