Tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12-HR Perfecting Primer Review & Swatches

Having already reviewed the Tarte Clean Slate Flawless 12-hr Brightening Primer for the dry skin lads and ladies out there now it’s time to address those with oily skin and larger pores, that’s where Tarte Clean Slate Poreless Perfecting Primer comes into play.

I suspect that Tarte Clean Slate Poreless Perfecting Primer is pretty much Clean Slate in new packaging. If you already own Clean Slate, it seems safe to say the formulas are very similiar.

I used to own Clean Slate in the old rubber purple bottle. Remember that? But I no longer have it and I don’t have the box for the new one so can’t technically compare ingredients.

All that aside….

If you haven’t tried the original Clean Slate I highly suggest indulging the new version.

This one is best suited for oily skin with larger pores but if you have larger pores or in need of mattifying around your t-zone, you too can indulge.

Outside of Smashbox Primer, Tarte Clean Slate was one of the first primers I owned. I recall disliking it, because like Smashbox’s version, it made me a bit itchy.

Flash forward several years later and I must say the new formula seems to agree with me.

This is one of the thickest silicone primers I’ve own. The formula hasn’t changed in that effect. It’s always had a generally thick texture. It does create a soft focused effect on skin, perfection if you will as it’ll fill problem areas such as fine lines and larger pores or even acne scarring so foundation and bb creams have a lovely, smooth surface to adhere to. Think of it as the foundation for your paint. It prime to a flawless finish so you have a clean, smooth, even layer for your foundation and color cosmetics to live happily on for the next several hours of their wear time on your face.

Thankfully it didn’t make me itch so something was left out of the mix this time around. I also found it didn’t pill which was an added plus. It allows foundation to wear a good deal longer without oxidizing or fading so where as before a basic base would last me about four to five hours, I can now safely get through a majority of my day, up until at least 5 pm, before my foundation shows some minor wear.

My skin is drier at the moment so not needing a matte finish but honestly, anyone can see how this could easily combat oil and mattify skin easily.

Overall, I’m not sure what has changed about Clean Slate, if anything, but it still seems to have the same great formula minus minor irritating factors like itchiness. I could see myself possibly reaching for this one daily.

It deserves a Muse Approval.

Does what it promises and some more!

Good stuff.

I am so excited my beloved clean slate is not discontinued after all. I’ve been searching for it like a mad woman. haha!! I ran out of it, went to ulta and surprise they didn’t have it, went to sephora, searched online it was nowhere to be found. I thought it was gone for good. I tried sooo many different other primers for the last couple months and ended up returning all of them. can’t wait to put my hands on it.

I’m a primer addict – always on the hunt! I have to say the Smashbox one is my HG, so do you think its worth having both, or do you find them quite comparable?
