Avon Glow Eyeliner Review & Swatches

I used to buy Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliners a hundred or so years ago when I was a wee little Muse. They sucked back than even though it seems like the entire world gives them a hearty “hey, you must buy these!”

Having not tried them in years and being every so tempted by the shades I ended up picking up a few shades of the Avon Glow Eyeliner aka these are Glimmersticks with a fancy Summer name.

Formula hasn’t changed much….

I’m all for cheap thrills but Glimmersticks don’t have a fabulous formula so even at $3.99 each I feel like I’m tossing money away and not really gaining much out of the purchase.

My mum loves telling the story of how my grandfather would say, “If it doesn’t work they could give it to me for free and I wouldn’t want it!” True story….

These are a retractable creamy eyeliner with a super thin tip. Packaging is fairly great since the pencil swivels up and down without issue. I’ve been noticing a ton of brands, even higher end ones, that have issues with liners that don’t swivel down…thankfully these work!

There are four Summer shades available however Avon offers these in a variety of colors. I just ended up picking up the Summer ones since they looked interesting. I was disappointed Desert Gold was nothing like the promo swatch as this is a white gold I find unwearable versus the swatch which looked like a bronze-y dirty gold.

Dessert Gold and Copper Paradise

Copper Paradise

Desert Gold

Both liners have a nice sparkle however they tug on application, aren’t as creamy as I like my formula, and don’t work well on the waterline. The formula overall, isn’t exactly all that great in my opinion and you can honestly do better at your local drugstore for a few dollars more.

Moral of this story?

Your $3.99 can be spent in better ways.

No likey!

Don’t bother.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Avon is very hit or miss. Unfortunately they are no longer cruelty free, so I won’t be buying any of their products anymore. 🙁

That’s too bad you don’t like these! I love the bronze one! I picked up the teal and bronze, loved them so much I ordered the other two! The formula of the glow liners seem to me to be a bit creamier and easier to work with than some of the other glimmersticks I’ve tried.

Omg I can’t believe you didn’t like these! Lol I’m actually wearing one in the shade tropic teal right now and its fantastic! I usually don’t have luck with budget friendly eyeliners because of my oily lids, they usually end up everywhere. But these go on smoothly and stay on for 8 hours+ with no migrating, or ending up in the crease or lower lash line (if I wear it just on the upper lash line). I will agree that these don’t work well in the waterline, but for $4 I can look past that! Lol I’ve never tried the glimmersticks but I will absolutely be buying more Avon makeup!!

I must agree with Gabriella, can’t believe you don’t like Glimmersticks! I absolutely love them, especially for the price! They work just as well as any high priced brand that I’ve tried. They go on smoothly and, at least for me, stay on for hours. I love that they are retractable as well. But to each her own, I suppose. 🙂
