Do Not Want Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer To Go

Dear Smashbox,

You guys are ace in my book. I really look forward to your limited edition collections and I generally like your makeup offerings.

Thanks for that.

But, listen, we’re friends, I can say this without hurting your feelings I think…

Do NOT want your Primer To Go.

Smashbox Primer to Go is a series of 0.4 oz tiny tubes to take with you during your travels. I love the idea of a smaller size of my fav primer for travel. It’s easy to carry due to the tiny tube, nice to have in my desk drawer for touch ups, etc…

However, I do NOT relish the idea of paying $17…yes, $17 dollars for this TINY tube!

!

Absurdity!

Let’s see the original 1 oz tube is $36 that’s $12 per 10ml…Primer to Go is 12 ml, so that how does that equal $17?

I’m sorry but I can’t see myself paying for a primer that’s the size of my memory card (a trial size toothpaste is about three times bigger than this thing) for nearly $20.

No.

Just no.

Do not want.

Whatcha think?

Willing to shell out for Smashbox Primer to Go?

P.S. On the upside they are hecka cute but not worth near twenty bucks!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. that’s outrageous. It’s not like their full sized primer is all THAT big either… I hate getting ripped off for “teeny” packaging…. It’s crapola!

  • Lissa

I made the mistake of buying their regular photo finish in travel size and paid that amount. I just buy the regular size now.

  • Quinctia

Yeah, they normally have that in the “impulse” section by the register at my usual Ulta. Sorry, $17 is not an impulse purchase like the $1 facial masks or an Eos Lip Balm!

    • the Muse

funny as I’d be the type to pick one up not realizing it was $17 bucks LOL! thinking it was like $6-$7 dollars or something!

      • Majick

OMG, I do that all the time at the checkout and then realize the tiny item I picked up is like 3 times the cost of the regular size.

I always think they are “try me’s” at a discount and get slammed at the checkout. They usually go back on the rack.

I’m so tired of shady advertising etc. and sales people saying anything to make a sale whether its good or not . I am the biggest PITA now because I’ve started “calling” vendors on their lies. They don’t like me much. :-\ lol

        • Quinctia

As long as the items are in the right bins, they’re at least clearly marked at Ulta. I honestly don’t think it’s good marketing, though–I saw Butter London in there the other day! Aside from a couple $1-2 items, the only pricier thing I’ve grabbed is some UD setting spray–only because I wanted the little bottle and knew that’s where they stocked it! 😉

They used to be half the size for half the price. That’s how I bought my first smashbox primer to try. But, like everything else, they’ve gone up on the price and down on the quantity. 🙁

I picked one up last week at Sephora, just to try it. I’ve always used cheaper alternatives and just wondered if the famous Smashbox primer was worth the money. I’ve only used it twice, but so far I don’t get it. Also, I think I’ve seen a full sized bottle the the cosmetics outelt for $20. I’ll have to check this weekend when I venture out of the city for a family event… It’s funny, I was so skeptical about trying the monistat chafing gel, but I’ve tried all of these other products in free samples and so forth and the stupid chafing gel really seems to work the best for my skin. Truthfully though, I usually just put makeup on over moisturizer and sunscreen.

I just saw this at Sephora. I picked it up and thought it was cute then saw the price. i was expecting it to be like $9. Crazy

  • Deb

Smashbox has gone off the reservation….seriously. Who are they kidding? Their primers are OK but they have way too much competition at much better prices and the same, or better quality, than to try and pull this crap.

  • Sarah

Omg I ordered the green smashbox primer to go and I was so mad at how small it was. I would never again pay that price again for such a small amount. 🙁

I bought this from the website not realizing they had downsized it. When I opened the box, I thought they had sent me an additional sample. Oh well, at least I got the Tuesday pretty points perk and free shipping.

  • Jen

I got my Smashbox primer off the holiday set with 1oz primer and a sizeable amount of their finishing powder (sorry the jar doesn’t say amount) for $29… I’d say just wait for a holiday set to pop up. And doesn’t Ulta currently have some Smashbox primer attraction set for like $14 bucks from a closeup on the picture, it includes a 15mL (0.5oz) primer…

  • Becky

I wouldn’t either! Especially since I received a .25 size from their website for free with an order. I have to say, the Hydrating formula is my new HG for a primer under my eyes, it really keeps it hydrated! I use my normal primer everywhere else.

dayum… I just yesterday, popped this into my Smashbox order. It was a last minute buy, a “oh, I’ll get that too I suppose” type of thing. It’s too bloody tiny!!! *ashamed of myself*
