Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Mineral Primer Review & Swatces

Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Mineral Primer is turning into a super fast fav of mine. I buy a ton of different primers but I typically like using hydrating ones and they aren’t exactly great for keeping makeup long wearing.

Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Mineral Primer kinda combines the best of both worlds here with a hydrating feel but enough silicone to allow for a smooth surface for makeup to adhere to.

Take a look!

This is expensive at 0.34 for $18 but the results for me are well worth it.

I dunno how they did it but they created a mineral based primer with a satin finish into a moisturizing formula. The texture is a thin serum-like formula that reflects lilac and blue. It’s oil free but feels a tad oily during application however it absorbs easily enough and leaves behind a soft, satiny finish on skin.

For me it feels part powder-y silicone primer and part hydrating one. They somehow combined the best of both worlds here to create an interesting primer experience.

I’m not keen on the powder-y feel at first but after a few seconds it dries down to a very soft finish that doesn’t irratate my skin or make my itchy. If you’re oily you’ll find it mattifies very nicely and reduces the appearances of shine. If you’re dry, you’ll find it hydrates delicately and creates a smoother working surface for makeup.

It does have some sort of reflective pigments to me as it lightens up face a bit. This is necessarily a glowing effect but more of a brightening one that’s very pretty.

All of these points are great but the real joy for me was the fact it held my makeup in place very well. If I’m not wearing a BB Cream and settle for a foundation, it typically fades and/or oxidizes very quickly for me. HourGlass Veil Mineral Primer extended the wear by at least three to four hours so my foundation and even my blush looked like I just applied it hours after application.

Overall, it has a ton of great features including an SPF 15 but I think the real perk for me was it kept my makeup so fresh looking. Who doesn’t want to not worry about reapplication and/or touching up as the day progresses? I know I’m sometimes to busy to even worry about doing it…! This allows me to set it and forget it so to speak.

Loves.

Although the price tag does make me wince, the quality is here.

It deserves a Muse Approval.

This is my HG primer. My skin is super oily, but the Hourglass keeps my foundation/TM in place even during the summer. Sephora had run out of the mini bottles around Christmas and it took FOREVER to get back in stock, so I grabbed 3 of them. I probably could have just gotten the big bottle, but these are so much easier to store.

I’ve used this for a few years. I’ve tried others during that time, including Chanel and Laura Mercier, as well as Vapour during my “natural” phase, but Hourglass is still the best. I keep coming back to it. Also, for oily-skinned girls, their new Immaculate Liquid Powder foundation is kind of amazing.

I’ve been using this for a while now and I love it.
This must be a “travel” sized one. Because the one I have is bigger and I know I paid close to $40-ish for it, I think.

Sephora MA told me about this. Yes, expensive, but it is fantastic. Highly recommended!

Love love love loves it! This and their immaculate foundation (along with a random stain and a skindinavia spray) is my summer foundation routine. No matter what tempeture, no matter even if I sweat, this stuff stays in place! It’s AMAZING!

I have heard good things and it’s on my list to try (when I run out of primer). Right now I have SO much primer I dont’ know what to do with it all. LOL

I love Hourglass lippies too – I have Raven, Grace, and Nocturnal. I treat myself whenever there is a F&F or similar good deal.

Hi Muse! I’m so glad you like this!!!! I think I asked you about this before but you hadn’t had a chance to test it out! It IS pricey for a primer, but it’s just so.so.so awesome!!!! My sensitive skin hasn’t reacted badly to it at all and it makes all other bases go on sooo smoothly, like butter! I’ve completely stopped using my LM but I keep it in my travel bag. I love the packaging on the HG too, it’s so classy! So glad this is Muse approved, otherwise I would’ve totally returned it! lol xoxo
