Kate Somerville Complexion Correction Spot Reducing Concentrate Review

Dark spots, getting a ton of coverage in the beauty world lately aren’t they?

Brands keep releasing dark spot correctors, serums, potions, and lotions but many of them do not contain the necessary ingredients to really aid in lightening darkness.

Kate Somerville Complexion Correction Spot Reducing Concentrate contains the gold standard of ingredients for lightening dark spots, 2% Hydroquinone.

The good news? It works.

The bad? You’ll have to wait around for the results.

Kate Somerville Complexion Correction Spot Reducing Concentrate is an excellent way to lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation but an expensive one.

This treatment contains 2% hydroquinone which is well known for lightening discolorations. Take note of the key word here, “lightening” as in this lightens dark spots but doesn’t completely fade or correct them. Lotions and serums and potions of any kind are not going to completely eliminate your dark spots but they will fade them which is considerably cheaper than heading to the Doctor’s office.

Not only does Kate Somerville Complexion Correction Spot Reducing Concentrate contain hydroquinone but it also contains anti-aging ingredients such as retinol as well as antioxidants.

The tube is a sad 0.5 oz for $48 so this is a pricey option and there are other products available with the same amount of hydroquinone for less but I haven’t personally tried those products and this successfully worked for me so why not recommend it?

The unfortunate problem with hydroquinone is the wait time. It takes anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks to actually see results in my experience. You have to be diligent about application and you have to have patience. I have some darkness on my lower jawline/cheek on the left side of my face that I wanted to be rid of and this successfully lightened the darkness to a point it wasn’t visible unless you were really looking for it.

Hydroquinone is a tricky ingredient though as reports say that it could work in reverse and darken tan or olive skin rather than help lighten it so do take this into account when using.

I used this once a day, in the evening, on my dark spots (not all over my face) after completing my entire nightly regime so this was the last step in my skincare application.

I saw absolutely no results with the first use so don’t expect visible fading in 24 hours. I started to see some change within a month and within my second month I saw a dramatic difference.

Lucky enough, I still have enough in the tube to possibly last me another month or at the least two-three weeks. Overall, I liked this and would purchase it again to resume the treatment for the best possible results.

If you’re suffering from dark spots you might want to check this one out however you have to have a good deal of patience as it does take time to see results.

It’s a bit small for the price but I do Muse Approve it for purchase since it worked so well!

I’m curious about this but I hope it doesn’t make my entire face break out in little bumps like the Philosophy one did…my poor face is horrible *cries*

For years, my cheeks have had terrible dark spots from acne scars. (For the zits that I did pop in the past, they didn’t leave a mark. The zits I didn’t touch, of course, left nasty scars…) My old routine:

-Lumene Vitamin C+ Pure Radiance 24h Lotion (in the morning)
-Lumene Vitamin C+ Bright Skin Radiance Nectar (at night, before bed)

Both products did a very decent job, and were great for my dry wintertime skin. (The vitamin C really made a difference.) However, once I used up those products, I decided to take a break from lightening products. The important thing to know is that when one stops using products that lighten the skin, the dark spots will become visible again. In order to keep the dark spots at bay, one must use a lightening product constantly.

Also, constant sunscreen use during the day is a must. One should be wearing a sunscreen during the day anyway, but this is especially important when using lightening products. Not only is your skin more sensitive to the sun when using a lightening product, but the sun can make those faded spots become dark again. And for crying out loud, don’t wear face makeup with shimmer or glitter in it, since they only draw attention to the dark spots.

Lately, my dark spots have been really bad. I didn’t want them around for my upcoming graduation, so for almost 3 weeks I’ve been using Philosophy Miracle Worker Dark Spot Corrector, which I like a lot. However, it’s extremely pricey.

I’ve also used the Clean & Clear Advantage 2-in-1 Acne & Mark Eraser Kit, which is pretty good for acne scars. (It’s also pretty good at fighting acne and preventing further acne scars.) In the winter, I want to try Lumene Vitamin C+ Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail.
