Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm Review & Swatches

Pixi joins the realms of tinted lip balm pencils with their new Tinted Brilliance.

I guess we’ll see more of these chubby pencils as the Summer progresses as they are really trending at the moment with Clinique releasing new shades of their pencil, Revlon having their new Stain Balms, and Tarte releasing a new Tangerine shade for Spring/Summer 2012.

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm actually had a Spring 2012 launch at Target and Target.com however I hadn’t tried them when they originally released so I was quite happy to give one a whirl recently.

Let’s have a look!

Outside of Revlon and riding up on Clinique, Pixi offers the nicest bang for your buck at $16 if you’re seeking a more higher balm hybrid and that price display reflects the quality of the product.

Revlon did have issues with moisturizing properties and both Clinique and Tarte do have a hydrating finish however Pixi beats out both with a highly moisturizing formula and a nice shiny sheen finish.

Pixi’s formula proves the softest, creamiest, and most hydrating with an easily, smooth, slick glide across lips that leaves behind rich, creamy color. They also get the vote for best pigmentation as this is a hybrid formula that acts more as a lip cream with the texture of a glossy pencil. Needless to say, they don’t exactly remind me of a balm but more like a hydrating lipstick.

With a slight minty taste these have a nice slick feel on lips and leave behind a ton of color and a good deal of shine. The formula is weightless and comfortable through the wear and for a creamy finish it won me over since it didn’t skip across my drier lips nor did it accentuate dry areas.

Swatched: Baby Bare

Overall, these are a fairly nice little chubby pencil. If you’re looking for a more moisturizing, color rich formula these bring it.

These look great-are they twist up? Hate sharpening pencils, I lose so much product!

I adore this color. I wish their products weren’t so pricey though.

Have it! Love it! This was the first of these types of lip products I tried and I have no reason to try others. Pixi’s is awesome with a great amount of moisturizer and color!

I picked two of these up in Baby Bare & Magnetic Mauve! Love em! Is it just me or does this actually leave behind a stain?

In concept, I loved Pixi’s Tink Tint. But in practice, the color-adjusting formula left me with bright pink lips that dried out after a few hours of wear regardless of how often I reapplied it. I think I’ll try out a few of the Revlon ones.

Revlon just released a new Stain Balm that’s just like this. I just tried one, and it’s exactly the same for $6. Pretty cool!

I apply mine and immediately wipe it off. I t leaves my lips stained and I put moisturizing lipstick or gloss on. When the lipstick wears off, I still have pretty, stained lips!
