Sephora Crystal Gloss Review & Swatches
Sephora Crystal Gloss is a release of four Pantone inspired shades. I’m unsure if these are limited edition or not but I suspect by the time Summer is over they may get the axe and end up on clearance so I’d suggest grabbing them now before missing them completely during some mad grab sale.
Let’s take a peek!
At $14, they aren’t as friendly on the wallet as you’d think for a size of 0.12. They look massive but a MAC Lipglass contains 0.17 oz and is $14.50 AND smaller than these in size but still packing more product. Looks can be deceiving eh?
Golden Embrace, Forbidden Move, Passionate Dance
I purchased them for the shades alone as I’m obsessed with all things peachy, coral, and orange at the moment. All four shades are incredibly pigmented and what you see in the tube is basically what you’ll get on lips. These are vibrant shades that are very pretty.
They don’t have a ton of sparkle but they do have an interesting crystal reflection that plays with light and gives them a nice sheen.
I think the formula leaves a little to be desired as they feel like a L’Oreal Infallible Lipgloss in some ways. This is a very unusual, strange silicone-like texture. On some levels the gloss feels very slick and looks very shiny and in other ways I felt like it was laying unnaturally atop my lips. They aren’t sticky or tacky in the least however they aren’t completely weightless, it’s the type of gloss you know you have on. The wear time is a little short here but you might be able to get around three hours in if you aren’t drinking or eating during that time.
Each gloss has a flat sponge applicator which builds color VERY well. I wish brands would catch on with some of these techy sponge applicators as they are super, they saturated so WELL with color.
The glosses have a strong fruity floral taste going on that I felt was pleasant enough but I typically like fragrance and flavor in my glosses. I did read reviews that people didn’t love it at all so I guess it really depends.
Golden Embrace
Passionate Dance
Forbidden Move
Overall, the colors sold me here and I must say the pigment is incredible. To make the formula a little more comfortable and wearable I simply apply a clear gloss on after application. This thins out the thicker formula and makes them a little less silicone-y in texture. The colors are absolutely stunning and even with a formula that isn’t exactly up to par I’d still indulge since these shades are so pretty and unique. Forbidden Move is a perfect example of this, it’s such a gorgeous golden pinky peach and pairs up lovely with NARS Orgasm.
