Skin 79 The Oriental Gold BB Cream Review & Swatches
I’ve tried numerous BB Creams in the course of the last several years and I can only list a few that I really love. BB Creams are really a personal experience, I believe you have to try a variety of them before you get to the formula and shade that’s just right for you, your skin tone, and type.
Skin 79’s Gold and Pink labels are favorites of mine but above all else Skin 79 The Oriental Gold BB Cream is by far my very favorite. This is another of my HG (holy grail) BB Creams of choice which is why today I’ve hauled it out for a review.
Take a look!
This is a triple function BB that whitens, improves fine lines and wrinkles, and protects with an SPF 25. I find the SPF 25 a little disappointing as many BB have a higher level of sun protection but regardless I’m most interested in how it’ll perfect my skin.
It comes in a rather large pump style jar. This features a top depressor so you can press on either side of the top part of the tube which release a small or large amount of BB Cream into a tiny hole located in the center of the tube. I find this style of packaging easy to use as it doesn’t release a ton of product out as a traditional pump tube is sometimes known to do.
This is one of the richer, creamier BB Cream formulas. This is what a BB Cream is supposed to feel like. It’s thick, creamy, and has intense color pay off so you can go for a subtle, sheer layer to perfect skin or full on coverage to conceal acne, redness, or other skin woes.
It’s hydrating at first application but dries down to a smooth, velvety, second-skin feel that’s virtually weightless. I apply in the traditional way with a small amount warmed in the palms of my hands and pressed onto my face. As it heats in the palms of your hands it’ll meld easily into your skin creating a seamless, flawless finish.
The ingredients are uneventful less you count plant extracts and the likes for treating finer lines. I’m not a huge expert on ingredients though but just a glance over and I don’t believe this will completely treat your wrinkles or finer lines however it might prevent lines in the future should you use it daily.
Long time whitening is not a result after use either however when worn it does whiten and brighten. Not to the point of looking pasty or chalky but more of a brightening, translucency that gives you skin a healthy look. This is particularly helpful if you suffer from dull, lackluster skin.
I find it adjusts well for fair to medium fair tones. It’s a creamy beige with a slight pink undertone that works perfect well on my warmer medium fair skin. I’m just guessing since I don’t know my MAC shade but it should be suitable for NW/NC 20-30, you can press to 35 but it might look a little pasty on such a tone so be sure to use less and blend well for the best results.
Coverage is good enough to work as both a concealer (under eyes, on face, etc..) as well as your base foundation product. Prime your skin prior if you want but rest assured the product wears well for eight hours straight without oxidizing or fading easily with or without primer under it. That’s a great BB cream for you!
It actually contains a creamy cheek and lip balm on the top lid and a mirror for application. I’ve never technically used it. This is my 3rd bottle of the Oriental and every one of the blushes remained untouched…Weird, I know. It’s just a basic creamy blusher you can use for a flush of color on lips and cheeks, not a ton of special here but a nice extra none the less.
The Oriental has gone through a few label changes so at the moment they do have newer versions of both a Gold and Pink label with improved benefits. I’m not actually sure if the Purple label is even sold in Korea anymore, but feel free to correct me if I’m incorrect about this.
Typically The Oriental is sold in a set and includes the BB Cream as well as a powder and a few other pieces for around $40-$50. This is how I purchased mine directly from Korea.
However, online, the set is broken up and pieces are sold for $20-$30 so you’ll probably run into this label for around $25-$30 which I personally believe is worth it however I do cringe at the price jack!
Overall, the main appeal of the Oriental for me is the moisturizing feel that blends easily on my dry skin leaving behind flawless coverage and brighter, whiter, smoother skin. I wish the SPF was a little higher and I’m not particularly thrilled by the anti-aging ingredients but if you’re looking for flawlessness, this brings it.
It remains one of my tried, tested, and true favorites in the BB Cream realms.
I suggest Sasa.com for purchasing or Imomoko.com.
There is a Skin79 shop that claims they are “official” on the Internet however I don’t believe they are actually associated with the Korean brand of the same name. Buyer beware as some of these shops popping up nowadays aren’t actually associated with the real brands in Korea. Of course, this is mere speculation on my part but I’ve seen so many of these “e-stores” that I’ve become wary of them.
