Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer Review and Swatches
Can your concealer kick ass? My new Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer says it can…I can hope. Perhaps it can take out a zombie horde and live to tell the tale?
Mmm maybe…we’ll see.
I picked up Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer from the UK recently. Sadly, the Soap & Glory Makeup Collection hasn’t yet reached the US market but I have hopes for it to pop up at Sephora perhaps later this Summer or for Fall 2012.
Soap & Glory has always had beauty bits and bobs available but I was delighted when they started taking it seriously and introduced lip balms and eyeshadows, etc….it’s a quirky, whimsical brand that I have a deep love/hate relationship with. So yeah, I’m up for trying anything new they choose to create.
Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer is available in a Light and Medium shade selection and is a three piece camouflage style concealer. This is kinda in the vein of Laura Mercier or Bobbi Brown concealer system in the fact that it contains a concealer and powder all in one compact.
The packaging is lovely and a pain in the neck all in one. It’s a circle compact that features two compartments as well as a mirror. The upper compartment has a brightening/setting powder and the lower has two concealers one for your face and one for your eyes. My issue with the packaging is the compacts aren’t separated so you aren’t clicking from one to the other, there is simply a small bit of plastic separating the two pieces. This is an all in one unit so I thought it was tricky to get to the other compartment since it had a tendency to stick in the lid and I had to wedge a small paperclip to grab at it.
The powder is a pressed formula and includes a small sponge for applicator. The sponge will be good on your face but under your eyes you’ll want to use a bushy brush. The powder is translucent but it does brighten up the eye area nicely and sets the concealer for a flawless finish.
I didn’t technically use the concealer on my face (I never use concealer on my face) but I did use both shades under my eyes. One is meant for your face and the other eyes and the formulas different slightly for each area. Both are highly emollient, moisturizing formulas that blend nicely and easily even on drier areas or eyes. The face concealer is a little thicker in consistency than the eye one but either one should prove fine under eyes in my opinion. I thought the formula would work for sheer to medium coverage. It did well under my eyes with dark circles, fine lines, etc…the formula might be a little too emollient in some cases and has a grease-like paint feel to it so go lightly and build slowly to avoid creasing and caking under eyes. The wear time proves well and held out through the day when set with powder.
Overall, I thought it wasn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t say it was a dupe for either Bobbi or Laura’s version but it is a fairly inexpensive concealer duo that has a decent formula that performs very well. It MIGHT be a little too rich for someone with oily skin or the eye/lid area but if you’re drier, I think you’ll appreciate the more moisturizing, thicker, creamy formula.
I paid 10 and I have hopes it’ll come to the US and be around $10 but with Soap & Glory at Sephora now I imagine you’ll be looking at $20 and in that case, I’d say, indulge in Bobbi or Laura’s version instead!
Hopefully it reaches the US soon with a decent price!
If you’re in England and tried it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
