Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Hoorrayyy! It’s time to review the new Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. I’m so terribly excited about these for some reason. I tend to go matchy-match with my eyeshadows, glosses, and blush. Shrug…some folks think it’s a crime against makeup to do so but I like matching stuff up. No rules in makeup right?

Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss
as you already know are a line of gloss shades inspired by Benefit’s popular Boxed Powders. Benefit created six shades to match up with their most popular powder shades. Hervana, Georgia, and Thrrrob didn’t get their own gloss sad sigh! Maybe next year?

But at least we get some of my personal favorites like Dallas, Bella Bamba, and Coralista.

Yay!

Take a look!

I went ahead and swatched each blush side by side with its matching powder so you can get an idea for how the colors look paired up with the blushes.

Each gloss is $16 each and contains 0.5 oz of gloss. The boxes and tubes are decorated in the same print and font as the boxed blushes which I found absolutely darling. Dare I say I’m keeping the boxes to store the glosses in? They are just too cute.

The glosses are divided into two finishes so you get some without shimmer and some with it. Coralista, Bella Bamba, and Dallas are all shimmer free where as Hoola, Dandelion, and Sugarbomb do contain hints of sparkle.

Dallas and Coralista are an opaque creamy-like finish with Bella Bamba having more of a transparent one. Hoola and Dandelion have a hint of sparkle but both apply with very little pigment and come across nude. And finally Sugarbomb has a nice bit of tint and sparkle. I did my best on lip swatches below but I’m not really handy with lightening and camera work, etc…sorry if they came out terribly.

Shades:

  • Bella Bamba (sheer watermelon)
  • Dandelion (soft shimmer nude pink)
  • Coralista (creamy bright coral)
  • Hoola (shimmering bronzey nude)
  • Dallas (creamy dusty rose)
  • Sugarbomb (shimmering pink mauvey nude)

The glosses finish do vary here and I did my best to explain them above but for the most part they range from a sheer to medium sheer color pay off. I think Dallas, Coralista, and Sugarbomb prove the most pigmented of the six if you’re curious which have the best color payoff.

Now the formula is quite lovely! It really does live up to its name in the fact that it has a plush-y bouncy feel on lips. It’s thick but not so thick that it ends up too tacky or sticky. It has a slippery texture with a slight silcone-y feel and a moisturizing, glossy finish. The finish isn’t terribly shiny but glossy enough to be noticeable. I find they wear very comfortably but they aren’t so lightweight that you can’t tell they around, they make themselves known if you know what I mean but not in a bad way. Wear time is a little iffy here but you can probably get two or three hours before they slip and fade away.

Overall, Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Glosses are brilliant. I wish they had a little more pigmented but even with a sheerer color payoff they still compliment their box of powder namesakes very nicely so pairing up a shade with your favorite box of powder is a complete win.

These will be officially available at benefitcosmetics.com as well as your favorite retailers and counters in July.

I likey!

This are worth picking up. I think you’ll love them as much as I do.

An essential gloss for fans of Benefit Boxed Powders!

Tried ’em?

Loved ’em?

Left ’em?

Do share!

“What happened to the sperm” sheesh you don’t hear that often lmao

But really no idea lol. The incense thing gets me a little wary too but it seems like it’d be a floral scent

          • the Muse

oh man they sent me a small press sample and I was oh helllllll no.

  • June Tan

GORGEOUS! Thanks for showing us the lipgloss+blush swatches! You look lovely in coralista!

  • Courtney

I think I like Coralista the best but they all look absolutely lovely on you. I’m torn because I already have a million lip products and I rarely wear lip gloss or lipstick because I tend to talk so much that nothing ever stays on for long! These look so cute though! I may have to pick up one or two just to match my boxed powders.

    • the Muse

aw thanks courtney! coralista is lovely ;-D at the least get that one..dallas is also gorg!

  • anne

Ahhh Im sooo excited~ I love the box blushes and own Coralista, Bella Bamba and Sugar bomb. I definitely want the first two~ I like that they are semi sheer so it looks like they wear more along with the tinted gloss/balm look. I want to try one first since they are a lil pricey and I still have my eye on two buxom lip cremes lol

  • Lulubelle

I’ve been a bit irrationally excited about these as well! I took advantage of the HSN special and ordered Sugarbomb (both the blush and gloss), and Sephora has a promo right now with sample sized Dandelion gloss and blush that I ordered today. Now I’m wishing I’d ordered Bella Bamba as well!

  • Jenny

We’ve had these for a month or so in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart, yay! I’m nuts about them! Soft and plush, not sticky, just perfect. I have Coralista and Bella Bamba (not a huge fan of shimmer gloss) but I think I should look at Dallas too! Thanks for all the swatches!

    • the Muse

you guys lucked out jenny ;-D such an early release!!!!!!!!!! aw my pleasure! dallas is just as nice as coralista/bella bamba those three shades are top picks imho 😀

  • Dinar Banfield

I write for a UK beauty blog and I am definitely getting myself some of these! I absolutely LOVE your blog too.

    • the Muse

aw thanks dinar! ;-D looking forward to your thoughts on this gloss!

  • Lauren

Ohmygod. I’m a terrible matchasaurus and this excites me so much that I may have to go to Sephora TODAY. Can you help me pick out a set? I definitely want one of the lips with higher/better color payoff. I have dark brown hair, super fair neutral skin, very pigmented lips, and green eyes. I’m drawn to Dallas most, I think, but am really up for anything. Thoughts? Thanks!!! I think my favorite on you is the Bella Bamba.

    • the Muse

hi lauren me too ;-D def love to match…! I’m not sure, it’s hard to just throw a color at you and say hey this will look great without having some sort of photo reference. my favs are bella bamba, dallas, and coralista those have the most pigment to them ;-D but those might not work for you. You’re prob the best judge of what colors will look best on your or which shades you love most 🙂

      • Lauren

I know you don’t like it when people ask for shade recommendations, but I thought since it’s not a foundation-shade request you might not mind. 🙂 Now I’m thinking more Bella Bamba. Decisions, decisions! Hey, maybe they’ll come out with lip liners too and then we’d have EVERYTHING we need! From one matchaholic to another…

        • the Muse

hey lauren it’s not so much I don’t like it, it’s just hard to recommend shades to someone I never seen before people tend to throw things at me like “I have light skin, pink undertones, brown hair, recommend me a foundation shade or bb cream”…that’s kinda hard ;-D even professional makeup artists find it challenging matching a person at counter so imagine online having never seen a person in your life? It’s the same for color cosmetics. I think you yourself probably know what shades look best for you more than I would not even knowing you if that makes sense ;-D I’m sorry I’m not more helpful on this…:( hope you find the shade you love best ;-D I think they are all def lovely so any you go with will prob look GREAT! ;-D

          • Lauren

Rats, my next question was about which tinted moisturizer would be best for my complexion! Kidding, kidding, totally kidding. You’re absolutely right, of course, that you can’t give shade recommendations based on, um, a 9-word description of my coloring. It’s just that I’m in so much danger of ordering a few and I’m looking for any help I can get to narrow down to one. In any case, you’re beautiful and amazing and I love the blog!!!

          • the Muse

LOL! dude I get that question a lot. I have people email and say, simply, “which eye cream is right for me?” Whoa……whoa……….LOL! haha! I’d seriously go with the Coralista, Bella Bamba, and Dallas if I were you ;-D don’t forget to use the hsn coupon I posted if you ordering online ;-D awwwwwwww go on now! love ya right back <3!

  • Boone

I already have all of the Benefit boxes o’ powder that I could ever use, so I ordered the set of 4 glosses alone from HSN (it was, IIRC, $26, and free shipping). It has all the shades except for Hoola and Dallas. Looks like it’s still available if anyone else is only interested: Item no. 191-858. Can’t wait to get them, and from your swatches I’m probably going to have to pick up Hoola on its own eventually!

    • the Muse

hi boone I posted about that already! You should have used the $10 coupon I posted as well it would have cost you $16!!!!

      • Boone

Shoot! Ah well, that would have been such a good deal I might have fainted, so it’s probably for the best I didn’t know about the coupon, right? 😉

        • the Muse

CALL them! TELL them you forgot to put it on they’ll redo it for you!

  • HapaGirl84

OMG thank you so much for the swatches!! I ordered Coralista on HSN but you are seriously tempting me with Sugarbomb. Dallas is my favorite on you – love that nude/rose lip. These are all gorgeous!

    • the Muse

aw my pleasure hapa ;-D hope the helped! ;-D I love dallas too ;-D coralista is my fav I think you’ll like!

  • Ruth

ooo! so glad that i ordered coralista, lovin’ the combo on you!

    • the Muse

aw thanks ruth! but that isn’t coralista on my cheeks just lips ;-D

  • Quinctia

Hmm…the Hoola gloss is the prettiest to me, but I’d never wear the powder! Funny how that works.

    • Kimryan8

Quinctia, I totally agree about Hoola. I’ve never bought it or used it, I don’t like bronzers but the lip gloss looks awesome!

  • K.B.

OMG, I’ve been anxiously awaiting your review! I already wanted Dallas and Dandelion, but I think I’m also going to pick up Bella Bamba now. I’m so bad with lip glosses – I buy them all the time, but I rarely wear them. lol

  • Sarah

aww shoot. now i HAVE to get dandelion. thank you for the swatches!

  • Kimryan8

WAHOO! Glad to hear that Dallas was one of the most pigmented ones. It should arrive soon from HSN!!! YAY

  • The Peach

Thanks for these blush and gloss swatches. Very helpful! I’m thinking I may have to hit up HSN and pick up the Dallas set 🙂

  • olivia

Hi Muse I noticed that some of the box powders are the old packaging. Is that how they are gonna come when I order?

    • the Muse

hi olivia I’m not sure which packaging hsn has, I imagine you’ll get the new packaging. the ones pictured are my own powders that I purchased when the powders were each released.

  • Melissa

YAY!!! thanks for this awesome review. I’m so excited for my dandelion set from HSN to come. That was such a good deal. I’m also glad dandelion is sheer because the last thing this lip-gloss-aholic needs is another pink gloss so I can layer it with other stuff. Thanks again!

  • Louise

I love that Dallas & Coralista (my two favorite boxed powder shades!) aren’t shimmer bombs!!! NEED these in my life!

  • Jayne

I picked up Coralista and Sugarbomb and they totally live up to their plushy claim! I was so impressed!

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

Oh. My. Gawd. This is pure and utter gorgeousness! I too am a huge fan of matching cheeks and lips. For some reason, I still don’t own any of the Boxed Blushes–but I DEFINITELY plan on getting the Dallas, Coralista, and Sugarbomb glosses(yay that I was already wanting the 3 you said were most pigmented), so might as well grab the corresponding boxed blushes while I’m at it so I can match! hurray!

  • Laura

How weird is it that Hoola gloss has glitter, but Hoola power doesn’t, and yet Dallas loss DOES’NT have glitter – but Dallas powder does???

I wonder if they made a mistake?

  • Emily

I think the Dallas lip gloss is *gorgeous*….but I agree about the lack of a Georgia lip gloss that’s just sad 🙁

  • Amy

I ordered the set of minis plus the Dallas duo from HSN, and I LOVE them all. I think Dallas is my favorite. It’s so pigmented, but it looks so incredibly natural at the same time. All I need is Hoola to complete my collection!!

    • the Muse

yay amy! quite a fan of dallas too, it’s def very mlbb (my lips but better) type of shade ;D!

  • Sonya

No Georgia or Thrrob because they’re both discontinued. Not sure why there is no Hervana gloss.

  • Nala

I’m loving Dandelion and Bella Bamba. BTW You’re really pretty! 🙂

All of my friends and I LOVE you and your blog to bits!!! <3

  • Littlecreek

w00t! Got an email from Benefit today with a free shipping code for any order with one of these glosses so I finally ordered! Next week I finally get to see what everyone’s raving about.

  • Angie Twe

To die for! All shades looks promising on every skintone, every ladies! 🙂 Getting!!!

  • joanie81

loving all of these on you. The only one I don’t have is sugarbomb which I need to order. I’m a bit of a gloss holiday.. It’s sad really Lol. But hey better to be addicted to gloss than some that’s unhealthy and dangerous ha ha. Love your blog sweetie. I’ve been a fan for months but never commented til now. 🙂

  • joanie81

And WOW.. my comment says gloss holiday instead of glossaholic… Lmao! Gotta love auto correct.. Ugh lol
