Covergirl + Olay Brighten Up Pressed Powder

I’m always a little wary of pressed powder as I have drier skin. I tend to avoid using it except occasionally in the Summer when my skin is showing signs of being a little oily.

Covergirl + Olay Pressed Powder is a new powder that promises to brighten skin as it softens the appearances of fine lines and wrinkles.

Take a look!

Since this is marketed towards a more mature skin I’m curious to try it out for myself as perhaps it will prove a more hydrating formula that doesn’t look cakey, dry, and/or heavy feeling.

I was particularly tempted by the “brighten” properties but this isn’t a reference to treating skin by whitening or brightening it, merely the finish the product offers.

As I said, I really don’t do pressed powder much so I didn’t bother indulging but if you have aging skin and are looking for a lighter pressed powder to blur fine lines while giving skin a more even appearance the new Covergirl + Play Pressed Powder might tempt you.

I saw it at Rite Aid recently for $13.99 (which I thought was insane, for that I could go to MAC).

Anyone try it?

Do share!

Drugstore prices have been going up lately huh? But I think the quality has been getting better too, I recently tried out the maybelline age rewind line, I’m loving the primer and concealer, foundation is decent but the powder kinda sucks lol. Maybe I’ll try this when I see it 🙂

    • the Muse

agreed! I don’t mind paying more for better quality but I’m def kinda shocked when they are this high as I can get high end for this :-/ the one with the little fluffy applicator? that concealer? It’s pretty ok! 🙂

      • Cj

Yeah those 🙂 If the prices keep getting higher theyre gonna have to reclass drugstore as something else… Maybe not-as-high end? Lol 😛

Have you seen the price of mac pressed powder lately?

          • breyerchic04

I was complaining/figuring out just the other day whether to spring for a MAC one or get a drugstore pressed powder. I am pretty sure I need one this summer, and I haven’t had one in YEARS but I don’t really know what to get. Too much oil on my skin right now.

i love physicians formula mosaic powder, great buy!

CJ, I agree, drugstores have options for products that are more expensive! I’ve seen some prices that totally surprise me sometimes. Though I also think drugstore makeup is better quality now, even lower-priced brands. I used to avoid many, many, many brands and products outright. But now you can even get good foundations and brushes from the drugstore. I won’t be spending $13.99 on a powder just yet, though, lol.

  • Tiffany Martin

Yeah, I’m with you, Muse, the price is a deterrent.

I like pressed powders better than loose powders usually, but I dunno; even though it says it’s brightening I wonder if it’s just a marketing tool and not a real benefit.

    • the Muse

prob not a real benefit, referencing the finish but not treatment for brightening skin…:-/ agreed, price is absurd. $13.99 for powder? Come on. I can go high end for that!

My heart bleeds. This CoverGirl line costs $25-$30 AUD. And my MAC Studio Fix + Powder cost $49. But then again, I live in a country where minimum wage is about $17 or more and tipping is not an institution. *thoughtful*

I wanted to get a new pressed powder and I picked up this at cvs , yes it was more expensive then covergirl’s usual pressed powder but I liked the fact it had olay in it. So I got it and let me tell anyone curious in this product that it covers wonderfully! It goes on so smooth and it blends so well and really brightens up my face, I have a bit of oily skin in the summer monthes and this stuff takes away the shine and stays that way 🙂 its well worth the money I think. Plus it really does reduce the look of blemishes I have. I honestly love this stuff and it hasn’t broken my skin out yet. I almost like it better than the bare minerals I have. The coverage is just simply amazing. 🙂

I also have tried the pressed powder and am very pleased with the results. it is not heavy and doesn’t bother me even though it’s still summer and hot. i don’t usually use pressed powder and this really finishes out my natural look. since this is a new product, a lot of places have special pricing, in fact Rite Aid has it bogo 1/2 off starting tomorrow. and if you use a coupon, the price isn’t too bad. i also use the cover girl/olay foundation and that also goes on very smoothly and has a light feel.

Holy cats…I bought this yesterday and it’s SHIMMER CITY. I am talking twilight vampire, almost a highlighter shimmery. Needless to say it’s going back ASAP.

      • Tammie

Yeah, smart of you not to lol. Not only was it too expensive it just went nuts with the shimmer. And you can’t tell until you swatch it either. I should have just returned it without wearing it after I swatched it on my arm, but I thought maybe it wouldn’t be so obvious on my face…I was wrong lol.

        • the Muse

aw man that stinks…I’m glad I didn’t indulge as shimmer on my fuller face is awful!

          • Tammie

This much shimmer on any face shape is awful, let me tell you lol

girl I know ;-D I’ve been there with too many past mistakes and shimmer ;D
