E.L.F. Mineral Face Cleanser Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Who knew I’d love E.L.F. washing powder!? E.L.F. Mineral Face Cleanser is a brand new recently released facial washing powder from the brand that costs eight dollars.

Facial Washing Powder is fairly common in Asia however, the US Market fails to embrace the idea so I find it interesting a budget brand like E.L.F. has launched a successful formula in this realm (yeah, that’s me giving it the a ok to buy, it’s quite good mind you!). Those familiar with Japanese and Korea brands have probably used dozens of various washing powders like this, Fancl is a very popular brand that produces one.

Let’s have a look!

This is a paraben-free formula made of up 100% natural minerals according to E.L.F. It contains Green Tea, Aloe, Jojoba, and Vitamin E with active minerals for cleansing and nourishing skin.

It comes in a 1.76 oz plastic bottle with a small shaker lid that allows you to shake the powder easily out into the palm of your hand. If you’ve never used a powder wash before it’s fairly simple. Just shake a bit out, add a little water, massage in hands, and presto it lathers up into a foam. Easy!

It has an emollient feel as you use it in the fact that it glides on skin as you wash. If you’re used to Asian collagen washes you’ll understand the texture I’m trying to explain here when I use words like “emollient” I’m sure. I find it interesting they captured almost all aspects of a traditional Asian facial washing powder here. It cleans skin quite well and leaves behind a fresh, smooth feel without drying, stripping, or tightening skin after use.

Overall, count me surprised and delighted. Right down to the packaging this is pretty much what you’d get at any Asian Beauty Drugstore should you visit Korea or Japan. Although not as common here I’m quite delighted that E.L.F. has embraced this formula and created something well worth picking up. At $8 even the price is about the same as Asia!

I liked this one.

It’s ideal for basic cleansing needs and doesn’t strip skin of moisture.

Likey!

My mom use to sell Jafra (kind of like Mary Kay if you haven’t heard of it) back in the day and they use to sell a powdered pearl cleanser that sounds very similar to this. It was awesome! I may have to give this a try just to compare. Not to mention $8 is dirt cheap for a cleanser!

courtney I have to google that..jafra? a makeup line I never heard of! how is that possible?! ;D

      • thismakeupgirl

My mom actually still has an eyeshadow trio from Jafra. Ha, I never thought to google it before…
The powder looks very interesting, but I won’t be indulging because I’m allergic to aloe 🙁

Have you tried the Dermologica cleansing powder? How would you compare the E.L.F. powder to it? Loved the Dermologica powder (Got it in a sample size that has lasted for absolutely ages) but the price tag? OUCH! $8 is much more reasonable!

Never even heard of these before.

Never heard about these before either. But actually it sounds pretty good. however I wonder if it works with sensitive skin, and hopefully they will bring it out here someday.

I saw this on the elf website and I was extremely curious if it was a joke or an actual product! I’m glad to hear it works well-I’d love to try it xoxo

Sounds really interesting. I wonder why they’re popular in Asia…

This looks really interesting! I love powders and my current exfoliator is a powdered one, and this makes me very interested indeed in trying out the ELF cleaner. Plus, at $8, it’s affordable enough and since you seem to like it, I do believe that’s enough of a push for me!

    😀

    P.S. is this scented?

  • Tiffany Martin

Huh. Pretty random even for E.L.F., but I dig. I’ll have to try this next time.

Have you tried the Bare Minerals one? That one broke me out 🙁

I have not tried this yet and I would really love to. Considering I know for a fact that Bare Escentuals tends to irritate sensitive skin, I stay away from it (I’ve heard it has non-hypoallergenic ingredients). I do use the mineral makeup form E.L.F and couldn’t be happier. It’s smaller but it’s definitely better for my skin and does a great job at covering. I would think that this mineral powder cleanser would be just as great on sensitive skin, at least in the mineral sensitivity realm. 🙂

I have to disagree with you on this one. This product left my skin feeling so tight, it was uncomfortable and God forbid you don’t get all the powder…down to the last grain wet in your had, when you bring it up to your face and start to rub, if some is left dry in your palm and it goes up your nose, that down right hurts. I also got this in a 50% of sale at ELF and even though it was only $4, that was sale price money I could have used on something else. I’m a die hard ELF fan and even when the products aren’t “amazing”, they still get extra points cause they are so inexpensive but this one would get a major thumbs down even if they sent me a lifetime supply for free!

I’ve been using DHC’s washing powder, particularly when I travel (so much easier than a liquid) for years. I was pleased to see ELF offer one. I really like it. I would say ELF’s is a creamier consistency than DHC’s, which creates more lather and exfoliates better. I never understood why this type of cleanser was so foreign to Americans – it’s effective and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

I was disappointed in this for the price. I think I could have gotten something gentler and more effective like Cetaphil. It’s not a bad product, but it’s not really worth getting, either.
