L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipstick Review & Swatches

I realize I shared my love of the new L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipstick in a recent review but I hauled a few more shades so I thought I’d do some more swatches and a little follow up post about these.

A reader recently mentioned hauling Cotton Candy Pink (believe that’s the shade name) and didn’t like the formula at all. I personally loved all the shades I tried so I was surprised. But actually, she’s right, the consistency on some of the shades is a bit different and I ran into issues with Blushing Sequin as it wasn’t as lovely as other shades I owned and loved.

Take a look!

Oddly enough Blushing Sequin was a shade that wasn’t as moisturizing or glossy in finish as the other five shades I own. After it warms up it definitely becomes easier to use but at first use the formula seemed to tug during application and lacked the shininess of other shades.

Thankfully this was a temporary fluke but just in case you’ve tried a shade and wrote the entire collection off because it was crummy just know the formula doesn’t seem to have a consistent run and some shades are proving nicer than others.

I think I’ve completed my run with these. I own seven of the sixteen shades now and I believe that’s all I need since some of the lighter shades would probably not look fantastic on me.

This isnt a lipstick formula nor is it a gloss, it has a hybrid formula that mimics a lipstick in color but has a shiny finish like a gloss. It’s more of a tinted lip treatment but does have considerably more color pay off than you’d get from your average run of the mill tint. I find the shades enhance my natural lip color and give a very nice my lips but better finish. These are lighter and less balm-y than Revlon’s Lip Butters and considerably more pigmented and lighter in texture than L’Oreal’s Colour Rich Balm. I’ve been recommending me to those who felt like Revlon’s version was a little too heavy and pigmented as these have a lighter feel with a glossier finish.

The formula has a smooth, slippery feel with a buttery glide however, I did have a little hiccup with Blushing Sequin as I mentioned above. If you run across a shade like this I highly suggest diving back in and not writing the line off completely because of a fluke in the formula.

The shades I recently hauled were Blushing Sequin, Silky Java, and Sheer Linen. Silky Java reminds me of the recently released Benefit Ultra Plush Gloss in Dallas as it’s a lovely shade of rose based brown. Sheer Linen is a shade I’d typically avoid since I don’t do nudes well but this is such a sheer nude that it creates a nice natural lip look without looking evil dead-like on my lips.

Overall, these are turning into a favorite of mine. I must admit I find the $7.99 price tag of L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Lipstick a little on the high side since it’s not a full blown lipstick but I still recommend these on a hole. They are just a fabulous hybrid lip product that deserves a spot in your beauty arsenal.

Thank you for addressing my concern about Cotton Candy Pink! I am glad to hear that it may just be a fluke for the shade…I think the formula issues from Blushing Sequin plus the sort of mod shade that Cotton Candy Pink is makes it awful for me. I will definitely give another color (Rose Taffeta) a chance :).

    • the Muse

I didn’t pick up the shade after all tammie as it was WAY too mod for me. But your concern is correct as I seem to have the same with blushing sequin, a little tugging, not as shiny although after I used it three-four times it seemed to get a little better. Rose Taffeta and also Silky Java seem to be the best MLBBs for me. Try another shade. I think you might be a-ok! lmk how it works out for you!

      • Tammie

Yeah, formula issues aside it definitely would be much too mod for you…I am as pale as they come and I can’t really pull it off! It’s weird because I swatched it (that somebody had opened…) on my arm first and it seemed rather warm and deeper than it appears on the lips…maybe it was the lighting at Target.

Yeah after seeing this review I think Silky Java looks amazing, though Rose Taffeta is still my #1 want…but if I love Rose Taffeta I will definitely get Silky Java next 🙂

Even though I feel better about buying another color I definitely want to wait until it pops up at CVS…though if it takes too long I might just get impatient and go to Target again ^^;;; we will see.

I will definitely let you know how it works out :3

it’s really bubble gummish pink so I avoided even though they are sheer I still think it would look bad on me. Silky Java is lovely, reminds me of Dallas, I can’t blame you on Rose Taffeta though, fab shade. Maybe ulta will have a free shipping and bogo offer soon, that would be great! ;_D looking forward to hearing it!

          • Tammie

Yeah…it’s not sheer enough haha. You def dodged a bullet.

Ulta has these in now? If so I have to check it out when I go on Friday…I have that 20% off~

          • the Muse

online they do haven’t seen in store but haven’t been to a store in a bit. nearest ulta is a little far from me :-/

          • Tammie

I guess it can’t hurt to check when I go, since I was already going~. 🙂

          • Tammie

Yes, you tend to have that effect on me lol

  • Nikki

Strange I have cotton pink and it’s feels and applies exactly like my other shade I picked up (sunset angora) both shades went on smoothly and left a glossy finish.

    • Tammie

Maybe it’s an issue with individual tubes being duds then? Hmm…

  • Icequeen81

I cant see much difference when is applied on your lips of is just me?

      • Icequeen81

Dont worry 🙂 I trough it was my color resolution 🙂

        • the Muse

it could be? I see a difference on my monitor but I guess it interpenetrates differently for everyone!

  • Nikki

I have to agree on the color of cotton pink, it’s way too bubble gum pink for my taste and I’m super pale. It have purplish pink hue to it, I think I’ll exchange it for another shade.

  • S

Sheer linen is gorgeous on you, Muse! I’m going to pick that one up for sure.

  • Christine

I LOVE Silky Java and plan to pick up Sheer Linen as soon as I can!

  • Cassie

Sheer Linen looks GORGEOUS on you Muse!!! Wow, I may have to snatch that one for myself now too 🙂

  • Lisa Marie

I have these in two shades, Blushing Sequin and Cherry Tulle. I am enjoying them quite a bit as they are shiny, sheer, and silky smooth…but they sincerely remind me of the discontinued Juicy Tubes. (that’s a good thing)

  • Indy

I’m repeating everyone else, but Sheer Linen on you is lovely. Really warm, natural, glowy look.

It sounds like the formula isn’t dissimilar to the European version- which means Sheer Linen and Fiery Veil are on my list to try when I come to the US- Sheer Linen looks like a sure haul, Fiery Veil looks so bright it has to be tried!

That said, I have to say the packaging on these is blah, compared to the European packaging.

    • the Muse

aw thanks indy 😀 <3! the formula is slightly different, I actually compared the two in my original review. I agree! packaging in the UK was far nicer!

  • Karena

The Sheer Linen and Java are your colors!! They look fab on you!

  • KC

I LOVE Silky Java on you! Holy cow I need to pick up some of these!

  • Tammie

SO I found Rose Taffeta at CVS last night! I also saw the display at Walgreens :D. I am VERY pleased to say that I like Rose Taffeta MUCH more than Cotton Pink. Rose Taffeta actually feels nice! I definitely want to get another color or 3 lol. At least Sunset Angora and maybe Sheer Linen and hopefully a pink that isn’t super mod as well. But more likely I will get the other colors I want at Walgreens when they have a BOGO sale or even at Target (Target has them the cheapest) now that I know I like them…it was like $10 at CVS!!! I was just so desperate to try it and I had $3 off….

    • the Muse

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so happy to hear tammie! ;-D I think the price isn’t entirely great..they aren’t a full blown lipstick so $7.99-$8.99 is absurd. A little lower would be nice. def wait on a BOGO ;-D makes it all the nicer to get it cheaper! just glad it worked for you! I was completely thrown when you said you disliked the formula as I felt they were so GOOD! yay! glad it was a fluke!

  • SJG

I’m on the fence with wanting to try these…if you have to be careful of “certain” shades I don’t know if I even want to deal with it. I got the Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee and it was so heavy and clotty it just soured me for wanting to give any of the other shades a whirl. If like Lisa Marie says, they are like the colour juice sticks I might just skip them. I didn’t like those as much as the Shine Delice.

  • Brandy

as I have the Dallas powder by Benefit, will get the Silky Java :). Looks great!
