MAC Ruffian Manicure Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

MAC Ruffian Manicure mania is sweeping the beauty scene today. I’m not a nail girl so this is kinda my half-arsed review of the Ruffian Manicure which features three different designs of press on nails.

I got my hands on the Demilune set which is a matte black finish with a gold half moon design. They are pretty wicked in theory but I’m unsure how many people are interested in a set of press on nails. Perhaps nail polishes or even nail strips would have more appeal? But like I mentioned, I’m not nail girl so I’m not an expert. What do you think?

Let’s take a look!

I think these are more of a one off, special occasion type of nail because I doubt anyone will be comfortable wearing them daily. They have a stiff, unnatural feel that isn’t quite comfortable feeling in my experience with them. But if you’re heading to a club or for a night out I think they’ll work great for that, just don’t expect to wear them to work daily and feel good about clicking away on a keyboard with them, know what I mean?

Without a doubt they are stunning and quite wicked to look at. Each box comes with two full sets of nails that have glue on the back of each. The glue is already embedded on the back of each nail so you don’t have to use nail glue, they are fairly effortless to apply and remove.

I didn’t wear these for a long period of time but the time I did have them on they seemed to adhere very well and they remove in a snap so props for effortless application and removal.

I’m a little confused how long you can use each of these before the glue completely dries out. I used them once for about an hour just to test them out for the review and removed them within that time frame and it seemed like the glue was still tacky for another use but I imagine with each application the glue will start to wear away. I’d like to say you can get three or four uses per set but I can’t confirm this without actually testing them for a few days.

At $25, it seems a ton to splurge for press on nails but they are quite well made and seem collectible particularly if you’re a Ruffian fan of sorts. I imagine they’ll be incredibly appealing to women who really enjoy an edgier look for their nails. For folks like me they are a little wasteful.

Overall, I think the Ruffian Manicure is novel and unique. It’s an interesting product from MAC and I think a first as I’ve never seen the brand do press on nails before.

What do you think of the Ruffian Manicure?

As much as I love the sound of fake nails when they tap on anything (keyboards, tabletops, etc) I would NEVER be able to wear them. I feel like I would just want to rip them off like fake eyelashes so I guess that’s the only plus for me: annoying to wear but SO SATISFYING to rip off 😀

can we get poses next time? the muse opening her diet coke can with a saucy wink? or the muse with her hand over her heart, showing off her nails, at the most beautiful pink/peach blush?? ;D

    • the Muse

did you want me to do a sharon osbourne heart as well? perhaps tapping away at the keyboard while playing raiding on W0W? I really liked the saucy wink and diet coke though but sadly I don’t drink diet coke, maybe a tea cup!? or a fake Queen wave? ;D!

      • Ruth

that’s exactly it! getting ready to sip out of your tea cup will do, as long as we can get the Queen wave along with it! that would be super awesome!

I want the black and tan ones so bad!!! Have never done fake nails though. Thanks for reviewing and good point about the glue.

    • the Muse

my pleasure lexi! I’m unsure how many uses they have so curious how long the glue lasts!

I’m a nail girl, but not into press on nails. They are indeed interesting to look at though. BTW, I still can not access this site on my LG smart phone or my Kindle Fire. 🙁

hi butterdaisy 🙁 sorry. Have you tried clearing the cache, shutting down, and rebooting the phone? this should clear the issue up for you!

I’m a total nail girl but these did not interest me when I heard they were press-on. I tried the press-on thing once and I’m never trying it again. They do look nice, though. I wish they were nail strips.

    • the Muse

I think nail strips would prob be of more interest to people kim, seemed old school to do press ons?

  • Majick

I think they look cool but press on nails don’t really work all that well for me (large nail bed). That said, I love the Sally Hansen polish stick ons (they last forever with a coat of top coat).

  • Tiffany Martin

I like the look but with press ons the issue comes down to “do they pop off” lol. I hope they last the whole day at least!
