MAC Ruffian Manicure Review

MAC Ruffian Manicure mania is sweeping the beauty scene today. I’m not a nail girl so this is kinda my half-arsed review of the Ruffian Manicure which features three different designs of press on nails.

I got my hands on the Demilune set which is a matte black finish with a gold half moon design. They are pretty wicked in theory but I’m unsure how many people are interested in a set of press on nails. Perhaps nail polishes or even nail strips would have more appeal? But like I mentioned, I’m not nail girl so I’m not an expert. What do you think?

I think these are more of a one off, special occasion type of nail because I doubt anyone will be comfortable wearing them daily. They have a stiff, unnatural feel that isn’t quite comfortable feeling in my experience with them. But if you’re heading to a club or for a night out I think they’ll work great for that, just don’t expect to wear them to work daily and feel good about clicking away on a keyboard with them, know what I mean?

Without a doubt they are stunning and quite wicked to look at. Each box comes with two full sets of nails that have glue on the back of each. The glue is already embedded on the back of each nail so you don’t have to use nail glue, they are fairly effortless to apply and remove.

I didn’t wear these for a long period of time but the time I did have them on they seemed to adhere very well and they remove in a snap so props for effortless application and removal.

I’m a little confused how long you can use each of these before the glue completely dries out. I used them once for about an hour just to test them out for the review and removed them within that time frame and it seemed like the glue was still tacky for another use but I imagine with each application the glue will start to wear away. I’d like to say you can get three or four uses per set but I can’t confirm this without actually testing them for a few days.

At $25, it seems a ton to splurge for press on nails but they are quite well made and seem collectible particularly if you’re a Ruffian fan of sorts. I imagine they’ll be incredibly appealing to women who really enjoy an edgier look for their nails. For folks like me they are a little wasteful.

Overall, I think the Ruffian Manicure is novel and unique. It’s an interesting product from MAC and I think a first as I’ve never seen the brand do press on nails before.
