Napoleon Perdis Mattifying Mineral Primer Review & Swatches

Far be it from me to fall in love with a facial powder but that’s just the case with Napoleon Perdis Mattifying Mineral Primer. I love this stuff!

Now that the weather is beginning to grow warmer my drier skin will start getting a bit oily and I can start to use powders without fear of looking TOO made up.

I’ve been stashing away this Mattifying Mineral Primer for a while and decided to test it out this week unassumingly believing it wouldn’t be much to write about.

But surprise, surprise it turned into a rather great product all around.

One of the most interesting things about this powder is the well though out packaging. This comes in a jar with a small sifter hole for the powder to flow through. What’s so interesting about the jar is the fact that it has a small plug in the sifter that ONLY releases enough powder each time you flip open the jar for a single application. How freaking cool is that?

We all know loose powders can be very messy but this allows for just the right amount of powder to flow out of the jar without every having to worry about dealing with a ton of loose powder. Swirl your brush in that amount, apply to your face, done…no left over powder to get all over the place or to hang around waiting for your next use and proceeding to puff up all over the place when you re-open the jar!

Nifty eh?

Packaging aside it’s also a highly functional setting powder and primer.

I was a little wary of the yellow base on this as I thought it would be most suitable for those with redness or fairer skin but no worries the formula applies transparent but will ease redness a little bit as well if you suffer from the issue.

You can use this mineral powder to prep skin prior to applying loose mineral or powder foundation as it mattifies and creates a barrier against skin that your minerals can be applied on top of. It also sets for a longer lasting finish.

I don’t personally use powder foundations so I choose to use this as a setting powder and it works fabulous as such. The powder is finely milled and quite silky to the touch. It buffs on beautifully, eases shine and oil, and has a flawless, HD-finish. I have some oily areas on my forehead and chin at the moment with drier spots on my cheeks and I had no issues with the powder in those drier areas. It was virtually weightless and didn’t accentuate drier areas in the least.

Overall, this is a little pricey at $29 but well worth it. Count me surprised. The entire powder is a well thought out product right down to the packaging. For those who are oily and need a little more mattifying power prior to applying their powder products this will help ease shine and prep skin. For the rest of us we can easily set our foundation or BB Cream products with this for a longer wear.

I dunno why I’m so surprised but I think it stems from the fact that I rarely get excited about loose powders since I don’t use them all that much but this one was a winner for me.
