NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil Milk Review & Swatches

Would you like a little NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk with your eyeshadows and cookies?

This little gem has been raved the makeup blog over but I’ve never indulged personally until recently. Makeup junkies rave it for its ability to enhance the shade of shadows, lock shadows in place while acting as a primer, and just generally act as a perfect base for loose pigments and minerals.

All true…all true!

I typically avoid using shadesticks or cream eyeshadows under my eyeshadows since I prefer using a lighter primer (my most recent love is Make Up For Ever Eye Prime) to hold my shadows in place.

But sometimes you need to bring out the big guns when you’re working with loose pigments or mineral eyeshadow. That’s while NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk makes for a great little product to have in your beauty arsenal.

This is a creamy, easy to apply and blend shadow stick in a bright, stark shade of white. Only a few skin tones will actually be able to use it as an eyeshadow so don’t buy it for that reason alone or avoid it because of how very bright white it is.

The formula not only enhances and creates beautifully vibrant shadow finishes when worn under your favorite shades but it also acts as a beautiful base that helps loose shadows, glitters, and pigments to adhere to lids.

I find the texture of the shadow very creamy and blends easily without tugging or dryness. I can’t honestly wear it alone as an eyeshadow since it goes a little mod on me (Twiggy anyone?) but certain lighter tones might find it’s ideal for brightening up the eye area for a nude, natural look with a good bit of dramatic liner to play off it.

For me, it’s a perfect base for all my loose products. If you find your shades fade or aren’t as vibrant on your eye as they are in the pan this is a beautiful base to get a rich color payoff on lids. Plus dealing with fall out is the pits and this minimizes it in a major way!

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk is as essential as any eyeshadow primer I use daily…! A must have in my opinion. Plus did I mention it’s under five bucks? Cheap thrill!

Loves it!

Just hates I waited this long to discover it.

Tried it?

Would you use primer then use this then eyeshadow or do you use this in lieu of eye primer?

    • the Muse

i always use an eye primer courtney…makes things bulletproof ;-D you might not have to as this is pretty matte but use it anyway just in case to make sure it wears ALL day 😀

  • Kimryan8

Yes! I know Leesha loves it so I had to try it. Try dotting it in the inner corner of your eye too, makes ’em pop!

    • jenna

i adore it for a applying and blending a little in the inner corners of my eyes. this is one of my fav products. glad you’re enjoying it too, Muse!

      • the Muse

it’s fab jenna ;-D loving all these new ideas/ways to use it too!

  • Tammie

I’ll have to try this out, I had heard about it before but held off because I had had some trouble in the past with a different color of the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (it was a smudgy greasy mess). Could be that I just got a bad one though!

    • the Muse

hey tammie oily lids? can’t recall if you told me…! I see a few folks commented the same so wasn’t you ;D!

      • Tammie

My lids are pretty oily, but I don’t usually have problems with cream shadows…at least not the Benefit ones..

        • the Muse

maybe a little primer will help it along!? If one creased, I imagine they will all have the same issue 🙁

  • KaylaK

I wish I could enjoy it like everyone else does but it creases like a mo-fo on me! No matter what I do it just doesn’t stay, it’s a hot mess in 10 minutes 🙁

      • KaylaK

Yeah I tried it with primer, then without, not using as much and blending it out, I did a lot of stuff but it never worked 🙁

  • Christine

Wanted to love it so much, but creased on my oily lids w/in 3 hours :(.

  • Misato-san

so… you don’t need to use a primer under it, do you?
I tried another shade and it creases on me without my beloved Shadow Insurance…

    • the Muse

i typically use primer always ;-D even under benefit lemon aid hehe ;-D

  • Lauren

I literally just ordered this online the other day! As well as Yogurt and Horseradish! I’m so excited, it’s coming in at the end of the week. Next step, indulge in the Sleek Acid Palette!

    • the Muse

yay! you have the bases coming Lauren now for the palette to use them with ;D!

      • Lauren

Exactly!! Now the real problem is finding it. They don’t ship it to the US because the neons aren’t FDA approved (BOO!! HISS!!)so I have to find it and get it off of evilbay >.<

  • Quinctia

I’ve got it, it performs well, but I really don’t ever find myself using it now that I’ve got a few other shades in this + some UD 24/7 shadow pencils.

For me, even as a base, stark white has limited uses.

  • K.

I really love this product! It sits lovely on my skin and it’s so inexpensive. My only gripe is that a lot of product is wasted when it’s sharpened. I would really prefer it in jar form!

    • Cindy

I would recommend de-poting it. It’s pretty easy, you pop it in the microwave for a little bit with a jar and you’re good to go! There are plenty of videos on YouTube about de-poting various cosmetics and it works perfect for the jumbo eye pencils.

  • Emilaine

I am a huge NYX fan. I have two of the coloured Jumbo Eye Pencils (strawberry milk and oyster) and find that they crease really bad. Has the same thing happened to you with the coloured ones? THANK YOU! 🙂

    • the Muse

i typically wear primer under them so no issues with creasing Emilaine 🙂

  • Chrissy

I wanted to love them so badly, but they creased on me like crazy. Even with primer, I tried UDPP, TFSI and Nars 🙁 And I don’t have oily lids…

  • kharanya

Hey Muse, hope you’ve been well. I usually like your picks, but gotta say no to this one. Gave me a rash on my eye, then I took a look at the ingredients and … ugh. I did use it for a while and it never blended out nicely, just stayed sticky. Maybe I don’t blend in enough, but I rather use a better product that stretch out my eyelid skin.

    • the Muse

aw sorry kharanya 🙁 I’d suggest other application methods but def NOT worth it if it broke you out or caused an infection/rash! 🙁

  • Tiffany Martin

I’m curious to try it, it’s super cheap! Love the white to keep your colors popping (I never thought of that! I just prime like an amateur lol)

  • Allison

I was wondering, are the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils eyeshadows or eyeliners? Or can they be used for both? Either way, thank you for the review! 🙂 Love the new layout!

    • the Muse

hi allison thanks glad you like the new theme ;-D

best as shadows…! You can line with them but it may be messy as they are big and chunky 🙂

  • Rachel

Hmm. I used to use it as brow highlight(blending the crap out of it though) but cap was so busted I stopped using it. Now I’m pulling this out of my neglected drawer. 🙂

  • Kim

I’ve been looking for a way to brighten up some of my shadows so I may try this but I am afraid of the smudging since my lids are a tad oily. I always use primer tho. Do these crease more than Laura Mercier’s smudge sticks? I just a LM stick and found it to crease a lot on me.

    • the Muse

i didn’t have a prob with creasing kim but def read through comments, a lot of folks did :-/

  • Sharon

Been using this for quite some time now as a primer and also to get a good colour of my eyeshadow palette. 😀

It stays on the whole day (i have oily lids and without this, my eyeshadows only last a good 3 hours).

  • Southern Gorgeous

Now that you have used this, good luck trying not to collect them all! 🙂

  • Sara Elisabeth

On the lid, it creases on me, with or without a primer. But I do like it blended on my browbone.

  • Amber

    Hi,
I’m using it recently and I love the texture on how smooth it’s glides on eye lids and help eye shadows to stay longer.
