the Balm’s What’s Your Type? Tall, Dark, and Handsome Mascara Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

the Balm has two new mascaras that launched this Summer which will either lengthen or volumize your lashes. the Balm What’s Your Type Mascara? is available in a body builder formula for plumping lashes up and giving them a thicker, fatter finish or the tall, dark, and handsome formulation that creates longer lashes.

What’s your type?

I’ll take either thanks so much or better yet give me Tall, Dark, Handsome and Built….!

But we can’t have it all and I respect the Balm for not creating a formula that promises volume and only delivers length and vice versa. Dontcha hate mascaras that promise length and volume but you come out of with one or the other but never both?

Aggggrrrrr! That stinks.

Let’s check out the Balm What’s Your Type? Tall, Dark, and Handsome Mascara first.

This mascara gives us longer lashes in a ink black formula so taller, darker, and fuller lashes are all yours.

The inky jet black formula gives lashes a soft finish without leaving behind crispy unflattering stiffness. The formula has an easy wear on lashes without breaking them off and remains flake-free and smudge proof throughout the wear but easily removes with an oil based remover.

The applicator is a straight line plastic brush with tinier, spikier bristles. I find it does well getting up and under lashes and pulling them forward for a good deal of length but not volume (but hey, that’s not what this formula is about kids!). Although I love the amount of length in the completed look I’m saddened by the lack of volume so I’m curious how well the mascara will perform by adding the volumizing formula on top of this. Haven’t tried yet, but stayed tuned for results when I do try.

I will say it does give my lashes a stick straight look but it isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it has a doll-like finish that’s rather flattering.

Overall, the Balm’s What’s Your Type? Tall, Dark, and Handsome Mascara delivers on length as promised so if you have shorter lashes you might just want to give this one a try. As for me, I think I’m more a a body builder type after all as I missed the lack of volume in my lashes when using this formula.

As I mentioned above I’m terribly curious how the two will work together so stay tuned for details about that!

I’ve always loved the name of theBalm’s products, sometimes more so than the products themselves! Echoing your sentiments for a tall, dark, handsome and built 😉 man or mascara, it’s all good!

Thanks for the review! I’m looking forward to the other one more as I need some thicker lashes more than I need longer ones (don’t get me wrong, my asian lashes need all the help they can get but I prefer thickening xD)

I always love their packaging, but I am not very impressed with the performance. Sigh

I’m with you Muse, I’m always searching for a good volumizing mascara even though they promise that they only seem to lengthen. /sigh

I also wish mascaras would lengthen and volumize well. These look cute, though. I love the packaging of the Balm products but I’ve never bought anything from them.

I wonder what tall, dark and handsome would do to my short bushy lashes?

I just got the “Body builder” sample in my IPSY bag. It’s ok but definitely not worth the price. My Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Cat eyes did much better at both volume and length and it cost me $5.
