Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes Review & Swatches

Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes is a newly launched cream eyeshadow from the brand for Summer 2012. These are a whooping $30 bucks each so turn away beauty budget’ors turn away…! They might be a little too rich to splurge but I was terribly tempted, all that metallic joy whispered to me and asked me to join it on the dark side promising cosmetic nirvana.

From my understanding the shades are selling all crazy-like so hopefully my review isn’t too late and your counter still has these. I admit part of my purchase was swayed by the fact I want Tom to live a really good life in all his gorgeous glory so it wasn’t any hardship dishing out $30 for four eyeshadows knowing it was lining his pockets and possibly contributing to maintaining his deliciousness. There has to be some maintenance involved if you look as sexy as that kid. It’s money well spent in support of Tom Ford, the end.

Let’s take a peek at Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes see if these puppies were worth my donation.

Tom, let’s chat. We’re friends right? Y U make me pay $30 for this gorgeous makeup and proceed to slap an ugly sticker on it? No likey…!

These come housed in an elegant glass jar with a brown lid. Very pretty, very elegant…and it’s all ruined with a gaudy brown label sporting Tom Ford’s initial on the lid. Eh? Did they run out of cash somewhere along the lines and couldn’t afford to have the TF printed on the jar? What? Are they real? I purchased these at Neiman Marcus but I’m skeptical now…kidding obviously but facts is facts the label is incredibly odd and takes away from the overall presentation of the makeup. If I didn’t know better I would think they were press samples or something with packaging like this but nope, I purchased at Neiman Marcus and after reading a good deal of reviews many others feel the same exact way about the stickers.

Outside of that downfall all else is pretty smooth sailing.

These are generously sized whipped up cream shadow each of which contains 0.21 oz of product. At this size and with pigmentation on its side you’ll be able to get a long use out of these so you might find the $30 per pot is a value of sorts.

The formula is a whipped consistency but not a mousse but a thicker cream. It’s very thick, very creamy, and very rich. Fingers, in my opinion, are strictly prohibited here unless you are blending as the best application method due to the thicker consistency of the product is with a flat eyeshadow brush of some sort. You’ll want to pile color on and blend it out with fingers but don’t attempt dipping in and applying/blending with fingers, it’ll get messy, fast. I find the shadows challenging to work with as they don’t dry down super quickly so as you work they’ll slide around a fair bit causing streaky, patchiness. This is the case when I’m building color up and blending out so I have to work a little slowly to get the best finish on them.

Wear time will vary but I can get a solid eight hours with primer however, without, they begin to crease around hour four. I suspect they’ll prove fairly difficult to wear and use on super oily lids since as I mentioned they stay “wet” for a go while before drying completely down plus the formula is pretty heavy. If I had to compare them to another cream shadow I feel like in someways they remind me of NYX Cream Shadows (and hey those are cheaper and have similiar shades available). The application is also very similiar to NYX with the lack of a quicker dry down.

With time, patience, and a little love in your heart you can create some very sultry looks with these, that my friends, is a fact. However, I think they can easily become frustrating to apply for some users.

Overall, Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes is a treat to say the least. The formula is pigmented, creamy, and has a gorgeous finish upon dry down. However, they prove a challenge to apply and the $30 price tag won’t appeal to the masses. As for me…I like them, a lot, and but I imagine if he does some new shades I might not be so tempted to buy. Sadly, I just don’t have the time it takes in the morning to apply these so that kinda sways my decision for a re-purchase in the future. Quicker dry down in future colors would completely have my heart Tom and skip the stickers next time ok dear? That would guarantee you my next donation.

I have the same issue with the Chanel nailpolishes! The front and back are stickers, and crappy ones at that…they peel and bubble after a while! You’d think for that price they’d do a better job. I mean I have $1 nailpolish that has printing on the glass, surely Chanel can afford it!

    • the Muse

LOL tammie aw! I hear that I hear that…what were they thinking!?

  • Cj

I’m telling you dark eyeshadow looks amazing on you! Absolutely gorgeous.

    • the Muse

aw thanks cj *blush* you are FAR too kind my friend 🙂

  • Ester

I want Platinum SO BADLY, but would never pay that much. Anyone know of a possible dupe?

    • the Muse

not sure of a dupe ester but I’m positive NYX has a shade in their cream versions, I don’t have them in front of me at the moment to compare but I felt like many of these shades were easy to dupe from those, formula seems similiar too.

I think MUFE’s “Taupe” (#15) in the Aqua Cream shadow line looks pretty close; it’s $23 at Sephora so it’s a bit cheaper, and I have some other colours of that product and it’s great – I can vouch that the pigmentation is nice and strong, and it lasts a long time.

Muse is right, NYX has a jumbo eye pencil in “Iced Mocha” that looks pretty similar and it’s way cheaper at $4.50, or there’s their cream shadow in “Musk” that is kinda close too. 🙂

They look nice, but I’m not tempted to spend my money on these.

  • valentinasugar

Illicit looks GORG! pared with the red lip. Very nice!

  • Lors

I love the illicit shade! Also like the lippie you are wearing with it–do u remember what that was? And love your site’s new look!

  • SusanT

I think I’m liking the Platinum the best, but all of the shades look beautiful on you, especially the Spice. Am I noticing an especially saucy look on you face in the second to last picture, Muse???

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

The texture looks really interesting and fun! However, I don’t *love* cream eyeshadows enough to warrent spending $30 on a pot. Also, that is a really bummer about the packaging. It looks just like a Maybelline pot of the Color Tattoos

  • Chrissy

They look gorgeous, but I think I’m gonna pass. For 30$ I would like them to apply like a charm.

  • SJG

These are droolworthy, as is Mr Ford, but I’m sorry to say that neither my wallet nor I have the right tools for the job.

  • Stacey

I agree about the sticker. I felt the same. I purchased mine from Selfridges & Co in the UK for 28 and when I got home and saw the sticker, I thought “28 for an eyeshadow and they put a sticker on there?!” I have Illicit and it’s perfect for those with green/hazel eyes. I love mine, but couldn’t afford the lot of them!

  • ayesha

hey hey i really want a dupe to illict so bad, could some1 help me out plz
    thanks x

  • Rimavh

Tonight I had a private Tom Ford one-on-one at Nieman Marcus. I’ve used the TF Mascara for a few years and like it a lot but I was v disappointed with the other stuff. Not because it’s not really good but there is soooo much out there soooo much cheaper and absolutely just as good. Like most people, I don’t expect makeup to stay perfect for 12 hours (where did that come from!) and paying $45 for a cream shadow (I did buy the blue!) when last week I picked up three from Walmart/Flowerbeauty for $1 each on clearance – diff colors, but same texture, application, blendability and color payoff. Full price is around $9? Why on earth would I but on pot when I could have 4+? I enjoy Charlotte Tilbury Quads just as well and the women at the counter (NM) aren’t as snooty.

  • Tima

Hi gorgoues I was wondering is the spice shade more orange in tone or red in tone irl because i want a red brown cream eyeshadow and im thinking illict fits the bill but unfortunately its discontinued so next up is spice thank you so much for always being so kind and friendly love your posts I always look forward to them :* <3

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Tima! Sadly not red or orange! It’s more of a golden brown! Hope this helps!? Aw thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxo!
