Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette Review & Swatches

The new Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette ($60) contains eight shades of shadow and is newly launched with the Desert Twilight Fall Collection.

These eight shades are a cross of sultry nudes with a rosy mauve twist. The inspiration behind the colors is the end of the day, dusk and to some extent they do remind me of the end of a long, hot day, just after the sun dips down and hides away for the evening.

Take a look!

This comes in a brassy gold compact which is about the size of a credit card. Inside is a full size mirror, eight shadows, and a dual sided brush. I like the size as it’s perfectly travel friendly and sturdy enough that you aren’t worried about breaking anything.

You get the following shades:

  • Eye Shadow in Navajo (creamy pinkish white), Cement (grey beige), Chocolate Mauve (black chocolate plum)
  • Metallic Eye Shadow in Twilight Pink (pale nude pink), Twilight (pink bronze), Pink Dust (pink bronze mauve)
  • Sparkle Eye Shadow in Dusk (silver heather pink), Water Color Pink (silver baby pink)

Water Color Pink, Pink Dusk, Twilight, Navajo

Chocolate Mauve, Dusk, Cement, Twilight Pink

I like the mix of finishes here as you get some metallic, some sparkle, and some matte shades which all combine rather beautifully to create a simple yet dramatic eye look with minimal effort or know how.

The formula here most definitely runs on the sheerer side particularly the sparkle finish eyeshadows however, they do build quite well. The Sparkle Shades are best used as an overcoat of sorts on top of the matte or metallic shades to add a touch of sparkle.

I was surprised I liked this so much as at a glance I wasn’t turned on by the shade selection. I think the colors are a tad odd as they have this mauve, dusky rose, taupe combination going on. Typically I don’t mind rose shades on my eyes but I tend to avoid taupe or mauve but this somehow works.

Don’t write it off completely if you swatch it on counter as it does swatch very sheer but colors build very well for more intensity.

Overall, the Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette is a selection of shades that older eyes will greatly appreciate. Although uneventful for those who prefer more vibrant shades, it’ll be very appealing for those who want a more professional subtle look on their eyes. This delivers an elegant eye look with a few strokes and very little know how which makes it foolproof to apply a dramatic eye look in minutes.

I highly recommend checking it out on counter and if possible having a makeup artist try it on you! It’ll probably surprise you!

I returned mine. Lately I feel like Bobbi’s palettes are poor quality. The sparkle shadows in this palette are horrible. Her permanent shadows are good though. I didn’t like the packaging either. I think it looks cheap. The darkest shadow in this is also really hard to blend out. So there’s 3 colors in this I can’t use. It’s not a good deal in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bobbi Brown’s products. I also bought and returned the Neon and Nudes palette, which had terrible quality shadows in that too. I was so sad to return the Desert Twilight palette because the colors really do look pretty. I did buy Nordstrom’s beauty exclusive Bobbi Brown City Twilight collection. The colors in that palette are great quality! And the nail color is really pretty. Did you buy that set?

The sparkle shadows aren’t as pigmented (not that they are anyway) than some of her older ones I have Jamie but other than that I really liked it. You should try with a sponge tipped applicator, that’s really great for packing color on and building it up ;-D I did not but I was terribly tempted!!!!!!!! 😀 I really wanted the rose gold long wear shadow in the neiman marcus one…! ugh! so many choices!

      • Jamie

Oh yes, that one was really pretty!! From that collection, I did buy the two shimmer bricks and the rose gold lip gloss. I love them. I also really like the new brightening powder.

Oops, I meant to say that the collection I was talking about was the Spring collection, called Rose Gold. The lip gloss I got was actually called Pink Gold. The Neiman Marcus collection you were talking about came out at the same time as the Rose Gold collection. I wanted to get that too, but I had already bought the two shimmerbricks and the gloss. Omg, I love the gloss. It’s so pretty!

ah yes I reviewed that a few months ago! great collection ;-D and yes that’s where the LE rose gold set popped up from :D!

I just have to say it… *yaaaawn* (still love ya Bobbi!)
These colors are not for me. I have enough neutrals already. Now gimme some color! 😉

  • Lauren

I have it and I love it. The colors are great for my green eyes”neutral and natural, but with a little twist of color”and it’s foolproof. You can’t go wrong if you a) use the Navajo as a base all over, b) put on any or as many of the medium colors on the lid as you like, and c) use the Chocolate Mauve as a liner. You can put one (or both) of the light pinks on the brown bone and inner corner if you’re feeling fancy. 🙂

While I like the colors (I have green eyes like the commenter above), the packaging is just… blah. It reminds me of something my Mom would have. Then again, I suppose this is marketed towards my Mom!

And this is why I haven’t bought Bobbi Brown shadows in EONS! The colors look lovely enough but have such poor pigment. I need *color*! I can always sheer a color out, but building up a color gets messy and heavy feeling and often crumbly so I feel like it could all go Jenga on me. No thanks Bobbi.

I swatched this in the store and thought some of the colors too sheer. I like the idea of layering the colors, but $60 is just too much for sheer. imo. I have some shades that resemble the pinks here, so I’ll just consider this palette inspiration.

The nailpolish though? Oh, my! I just might have to!

      • Kathleen

I forgot to mention I swatched the Twilight polish on one nail. The City Twilight polish looks very pretty too!

I haven’t seen another polish that looks like Twilight. So if there’s a dupe, it’s a secret.
