Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush Review & Swatches

Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush ($28) launched earlier this Spring in a range of sixteen shades. I think these are easily overlooked since Estee Lauder is written off as a more “mature” or “older” brand.

I admit even I have dubbed it “grandma” makeup. But honestly, since creative director, Tom Pecheux, has joined the brand I feel like new life has been breath into many of the collections launched.

I have a hardcore lemming for Tom Ford Blushes however, I’m unsure if I’m ready to take the near $60 plunge to own one of these wonderful creations.

I must say that Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush has cured some of those lemmings. These are an affordable, luxury blush that’s well worth checking out. I have a feeling once you tried one you’ll want to grab up all the shades like me.

Being a huge supporter and fan of Pure Color Lipgloss it doesn’t surprise me too much that I adore Pure Color Blush. I suffered the same symptoms I had when I hauled my first Pure Color Gloss when I indulged in one of these blushes. Simply put, it was instant love and I wanted to hurry back to the store and grab up all the available shades.

Housed in Estee Lauder’s traditional gold packaging these blushes are .24 oz in size for $28 each. I think the $28 price tag, for blush, is a little intimdating. But if you’re already indulging in a NARS Blush this is a good deal bigger for around the same price (NARS Blush are 0.16 oz).

Now Tom Ford’s Blushes are $55 and 0.28 oz in size so you are getting a little more for your money there but I must say at $27 cheaper I feel a little happier indulging in Estee Lauder’s version as I can indulge in nearly two shades for the price of one.

I haven’t tried Tom Ford’s version mind you so I can’t compare the two but I will say Estee Lauder has outdid themselves on the formula. This a very luxurious blush with full color pay off and a soft, silky formula that blends easily and flawlessly.

The color I choose, Pink Kiss, is a peachy pink. Obviously I picked it because I love NARS Orgasm. It does have a good deal more pink to it than Orgasm and not as much golden peach.

I did a very light layer in my photo below as it does have an intense color pay off with a heavier hand.

Estee Lauder has successfully captured the essence of a truly luxurious blush in a generous size with an affordable price tag compared to many other higher end brands. I really liked this blush and I look forward to indulging in more shades.

I highly recommend checking out Pure Color Blush for yourself. I think you’ll be as delighted as I was with it.

Ohh, I might have to try this! NARS Orgasm is a bit too peachy for me at the moment so this would fit the bill :).

    • the Muse

check these out some of the shades made me SWOON! ;-D I must get more! I just purchased the one but regret it haha!

      • Tammie

I will definitely check it out~. I saw them when I was looking to buy the night serum the other day, but I generally don’t think twice about EL things for the reasons you mentioned (other than the serum and a cream shadow I have/love that I got from a CCO). I am also going to check out the pure color gloss that you love too, I am always up for a great gloss :).

        • the Muse

omg I LOVE pure color gloss with a PASSION! If I could I’d buy every single shade they are dangerous ;D!

  • Stacie

I have also dubbed EL as “old lady face paint” in the past. But I think they’ve done a good job lately of appealing to a younger audience. They’ve been cranking out some great stuff as of late.

  • Kim

EL has some great stuff these days (I used to think it was old lady stuff too)! I have this blush in a hot pink color (forgot the name) and I love it. I also love the Pure Color gloss and the Gelee eyeshadows. I can’t wait to purchase some of the new collections, Violent Underground and Vivid Shine. I keep looking at it online but I just can’t make up my mind; I want it all!

    • the Muse

me too kim! Did you indulge in the Brazil Collection? They had a great orange pure color gloss with it!

  • Bora

I have both sets of EL and Tom Ford blushers and I’m very sorry to say that you need both in your life. I know you don’t want to hear it but they both rock, they’re different finishes and looks and you’re going to have to steal candy from a child to finance the blush addiction. Listen to my words.

    • the Muse

lmao bora ;-D I have at least three shades of TF’s blushes in my cart at the moment that I’ve been hesitating to click yes on! obviously this seals the deal, you know I take ALL your recs to heart Bora ;D

  • Monica

I have three of this bushes, and I love them, the packaging is beautiful, the colors are lovely aswell. My latest pick was Brazen bronze, I think you would love that one Muse!

    • the Muse

monica I’ll have to add that to the list! you have me curious ;D!

  • Lulle

I think the “grandma’s makeup” reputation comes in a large part from the old-fashioned, golden packaging. I’m not a fan, because it does look exactly like the makeup my granny was using…
I hope they’ll change the look of their compacts and lipsticks soon!

    • Tammie

It’s funny because it’s very classy but it just screams “grandma” doesn’t it…maybe it’s the logo? Maybe they should make the packaging gunmetal instead?

  • Winni

Girl. I just purchased 2 of the Macy’s exclusive Brasil Dreams Pure Color Blushes in Naughty and The Siren. I highly recommend! I am now addicted!

    • the Muse

I want those! I brought all the pure color glosses but not the blushes, I was kinda holding off but they will prob disappear if I don’t get on it!

  • Victoria

I agree EL has definitely came out and is coming out with great stuff. I don’t mind the packaging, I actually think its classy but mostly in quality. I love their invisible foundation and I’ve tried their blushes, they’re lovely BUT I still want to try Tom ford. It’s so pricey, I want to make sure the one I get, I’ll be able to use everyday just to make it worth $55.

    • the Muse

the invisible foundation is amazing isn’t it? I love it! It is a lot of blush for that price but yeah at $55 damns!

  • Barb

I’ve been getting back into EL colour products and am loving their gel eye liners… they’re like no other… so now that you’ve mentioned these blushes I’m going to definately give them a try as I do have a blush addiction

    • the Muse

that good? will check them next trip to the el counter barb 😀

  • Majick

Hilarious, EL has fantastic products and I’ve been using some of them for years. (Hush little ones, I know how old I am. LOL)

What I find hilarious is, the products are great but EVERY TIME I’ve ever gotten a makeover from EL I’ve left the counter with my face hidden and hurried home. OR, just taken a wipe to my face and VIOLA – 25 years younger and NOT WALKING THE STREET. Yep, that’s what I’m sayin’, I leave the counter looking like a mature hor and I’m by no means afraid of makeup or color. They just slather it on wtih a trowel. 😀 I haven’t been back in a while so maybe things have changed.

That said, their products and my own application – beautiful. I don’t like most of their foundations because I don’t seem to get the right color or finish that i like – with the exception of their liquid mineral makeup. I tried that and really liked it.

    • the Muse

lol really? I never actually had them do my makeup lol but I def won’t NOW! ;-D

  • Lenita

Errr, the EL is actually $27 cheaper (not $17). A dollar more, you do get 2 ELs for the price of 1 TF.

  • Ann C

Happy to have found your website! I come by way of Temptalia. I think the blush looks awesome on you. Blush is the one beauty product I have the hardest time picking. I’m not sure why. I think it’s because I have rosacea and it can be quite difficult to find a shade that doesn’t increase the look of it. I’ve been buying Estee for the past year with the new gelee eye shadows. I love the formula. I can’t wait to pick up some of the Violet Underground. It looks phenomenal! This isn’t our grandma’s makeup anymore!

    • the Muse

hi ann! nice to meet you ;-D have you tried it cosmetics concealer? awesome stuff for covering redness 😀 I haven’t tried the new gelee but I keep hearing SO many raves! I def need to play with these ;D!

  • Lisa G

I’m slowly warming up to EL, because they do have the Grandma stigma. But, I recently bought the blush in Electric Pink and I do Love it. I’ve been lemming the Tom Ford blushes, too, but just can’t pull the trigger, yet.

  • Kara

I actually never even bothered to try Estee Lauder’s makeup because I thought it was too expensive and too old-lady-like. But I tried a few of the items this week and was pleasantly surprised. EL makeup is AMAZING. Also, I like the Limited Edition compacts for powders. They do cost an arm and a leg but dang, they’re so cute!
