I fell in love with NARS Pure Matte Lipstick when they launched the MLBB (my lips but better) lip shade Montego Bay and later for Summer, Moscow fell into my possession and yet again I fell in love with a matte lipstick. Now NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Amsterdam has landed on my desk and yet again, I find myself falling even deeper in love with this formula.
I dunno how but NARS somehow convinced me that matte is a rather nice finish.
The shades mentioned above and the new shade, Amsterdam, released for Fall 2012, are perfect examples that indeed mattes are wearable and have a formula that can be done right.
Too many times matte finishes fall victim to being terribly drying and looking quite nice at first application but as wear time goes on they begin to fade, bleed, feather, migrate, and dry out terribly. NARS successfully created a formula with a soft, velvety finish, full color coverage, and a long, comfortable wear that remains fresh.
NARS Pure Matte Lipstick ($25) is a easy to wear matte formula which is quite hydrating and has a smooth glide during application. Some mattes apply quite patchy but NARS’ formula seems to yield full color coverage on first swipe. They wear light and comfortable for me and I never feel like it looks less than smooth on my lips even if I’m suffering from a bit of dryness.
Amsterdam is a warmer shade of brownish red that can be worn easily if you can’t wear truer shades of red without looking like a clown. The color has just the right warmth to add elegance to your Fall looks.
For me the shade proves an easy wear due to that warmth.
Again, NARS proves to me that matte’s aren’t all evil. A superior formula, a gorgeous shade of color for Fall, and a long, strong comfortable wear time makes this matte shade and this matte lipstick in general well worth the purchase.
Amsterdam is a gorgeous shade for Fall and as always NARS Pure Matte Lipstick continues to impress me each time I try a new shade.
