Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup Review & Swatches
Neutrogena recently launched a Shine Control Makeup Collection which includes a range of foundation that promise eight hour shine control as well as an SPF 20.
I don’t need too much oil control to be honest since my skin is drier but I do suffer from a combination skin in the Summer. We probably all go through a stint of oily or shiny skin in the warmer months particularly when we are spending so much time outdoors.
I tested out Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup earlier this month and here are some of thoughts.
This is affordable liquid foundation at around $6.99-$8 for a 1 oz size. It does provide sheer to medium coverage with better coverage if you build. Pigmentation, SPF, and the 1 oz size does prove a good overall value.
I find the SPF 20 (titanium dioxide) a little weak, I personally prefer higher however I am happy to report the added sun protection does not morph the formula. Too many times foundation products come across greasy or too heavy when SPF is added in the mix. Thankfully this has the feel and finish of a traditional liquid makeup sans SPF.
Oil control is provided by a rice protein complex in the foundation. I felt it performed fairly well on my combination skin inside and outdoors and kept shine at bay. I don’t think it’ll successfully tame shine on oily skin for a solid eight hours. If you’re lucky you might see some mattifying properties for two to three hours of wear.
I think the texture is a bit odd. It feels slightly gritty upon application but does apply smoothly without looking patchy or dry. It has a touch of a dewy finish at first application and a satiny dry down within a few moments. As with must drugstore foundation it oxidizes fairly quickly on me (within the first 90 minutes) and proceeds to fade away within a two hour period. The wear time is fairly short sadly and is even shorter if you’re wearing it outside on a warm day.
Soft Beige 50
Overall, Neutrogena Shine Control Makeup isn’t exactly all that great at taming oil. Add to the fact a grainy formula (how odd!) and a short wear time and you might want to second guess your purchase. I personally don’t like liquid foundations as I find them messy to work with but the added quirky negatives here make me like it even less.
This one just didn’t do it for me.
