About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. MUUUUUUUUUUUUSE! Where have you been?! I’ve been going through withdrawal here :'( I hope you had a good mini vacation lol.

I am liking the fan and blush&counter brushes. I never had a fan brush lol. Are these natural or synthetic? I’m starting to move away from natural brushes, I just ordered Sigma’s mr bunny collection last night to replace the natural brushes I use.

    • the Muse

lol Hey guy! I missed you! I was in San Diego at Comic Con. 😀 I was supposed to come back on Sunday night but we decided to stay until Monday night ;-D How are you!? All well? I’m good, tired as SIN! like my eyes are glued shut hehe. I went to bed as soon as I got home last night, like 7pm or something! dude, no rest for the weary! I think their synthetic but don’t quote me there! awww mr bunny, I heart that name!

      • Cj

Ooooh comic con, that must of been fun! I always wanted to go one year. Yeah I’m good a little tired, still getting used to working lol! Yeah you should see the mrs bunny ones, they’re pink and blue!

        • the Muse

fun but exhausting. I haven’t been in two or three years now so was nice to get back there but I forgot how long the lines are, how could I forget? *head desk* You should go. grab some friends together and enjoy! ugh work, why do they make us work!? ;-D I wanna close up my office right now and crawl under my desk for a nap! I’m going to take a peek now!

          • Tigress

Gah, you’re so lucky! Two of my friends made it to SDCC and I’m so jealous. I’ve always wanted to go. I’m watching the video from the Dexter panel right now.

          • the Muse

tigress is was fab ;-D You should def go once in your life :D!

hi CJ, i know for sure the Contour brush is a mix of synthetic & natural hairs (have it) and the Retoucher Foundation Brush is natural (tested it in the last TSV). there’s an Ulta very close to work, i can pop over there during lunch and check out these brushes for you guys.

      • Cj

Ok cool, the fan brush is probably the same then since they have the same design. Thanks a lot blue! 🙂

          reporting back…
          – natural brushes: bronzing body buki brush, retoucher foundation brush, blush brush
          – mix of synthetic (white) & natural (black) brushes: fanatic brush, cream blush & contour brush
          – synthetic: face powder brush

i have pictures of some of the brushes ( not the bronzing or concealer one). should i just email them to Muse?

          • Cj

Go for it! Who knows she might put em in a post 😛

        • blue

the powder brush is not really dense and bristles are actually pretty long so it makes it a bit floppy. all of the brushes are actually pretty soft, even the natural ones. but i guess the real test would come when you wash it and the shedding.

  • Sara Elisabeth

I was wondering where you went too, because I was missing you! This is my favorite blog. I have two of these that came with Tarte sets. I like them, but I don’t think I’d pay full price for them. I thought they were wonderful additions to the sets though.

    • the Muse

aw missed ya back sara! ;-D thank you! that’s VERY flattering! I’m backkkkkkkkkkk ;-D I know, it somehow feels wrong paying for them full price right?!

  • Suselew

I’ve been pretty critical lately of Tarte as I feel they have made a lot of bad decisions, especially in the last TSV that featured one of these brushes. It was natural hair, shed and I ended up giving it away. I own a bevy of Tarte products, and love most of them, but I have written Tarte about going to all synthetic brushes, like UD, Too Faced, and Real Techniques. I have all the Sigma synthetic brushes, too. For a cruelty-free company like Tarte, they need to “shed” the natural hair brushes. I don’t think I’ll invest in any more Tarte brushes as I seriously do not reach for any of theirs any more since there are much better alternatives.

    • the Muse

thanks suse, wasn’t sure if those brushes in the TSV were natural or not. sorry about your disappointment with tarte lately 🙁

      • Suselew

They still are one of my favorite brands. Love the Amazonian clay foundation, mascaras and their cream shadows. It’s just lately that they seem to have missed the mark.

        • the Muse

i think brands go through highs and lows all the time. Sometimes they release all this incredible stuff and suddenly it becomes repetitive or the formula is poor, etc…hopefully Tarte comes back on top for you again soon <3! I've had that happen to me with Stila. Stila is so repetitive lately and the formula suffers majorly as well!

    • blue

i’m hoping for the same thing as well Suselew. i was so disappointed when i got the contour brush and realized the black bristles were natural hairs. 🙁 do you have both the Real Techniques Powder Brush & the full size Mr. Bunny F30 Powder Brush (from the essential kit)? i have the Real Techniques powder brush and was wondering if the two were similar. been looking everywhere for a comparison and can’t find one.

  • Kiss & Make-up

I haven’t tried any of the Tarte brushes, but do own a couple of bamboo brushes from ELF. I don’t know if they’re comparable, but I like them alot.

  • Brooke

I have the airbrush finish bamboo foundation brush and LOOOVE it! I use it to apply my NARS pure radiant TM and it works excellent! I must admit, I’m cheap when it comes to brushes, but after splurging on this one, I’m definitely going to check these out!

    • blue

that’s a nice big synthetic one. i have it as well and have only used it for powder so far

  • Nat

I was also wondering where you were until I remembered it was con time, then – “DUH! of course Muse would be there!” LOL Did you go to the Firefly reunion? 😀

    • the Muse

ha nat ;-D noooo 🙁 GRMM’s panel was at the same time and we had to decide if we needed to get a FF fix or see GRMM discuss possible book updates, GRMM won out ;-D I feel incredibly sad I couldn’t do both!

      • Nat

Ahh, that’s too bad. I think I would probably just faint if I saw Fillion in person, lol. :O

        • the Muse

I’d prob do something unnatural to him if I saw him in person…tie him up, kidnap him, etc..;-D

  • Preity

You have pretty nice collection of brush…Can u suggest a brush for liquid foundation.I already use Ecotools Bronzer Brush.

  • Nina

Now to me it’s kinda weird. In the pictures up above the brush they have labeled as a concealer brush was considered a shadow brush in the glow your way to gorgeous TSV last year. I do not see the concealer brush that they had in the fall shipment of that tsv on here…Kinda bumed about it since that concealer brush is awesome! Maybe they will add it?
