Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

I’m guilty, I admit it, I wrote off Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lip Creams ($21) when they launched.

I’m just not a fan of cream lipstick. I find most creams drying and the longer you wear them the more moisture they suck from your lips. When there isn’t anymore moisture to suck out they go for your soul! It’s deadly.

No..but seriously. I also get lip crumbs from cream lipstick. Lip crumbs are those little flaky gross pieces of lipstick that float around your dry mouth. It’s not pretty people.

Too Faced La Creme Lipstick changed how I feel about creams. They’ve managed to create a moisturizing cream formula that looks and feels incredible on lips.

How’d they do dat?

These luxe little lippies come in a weighty slim gold tube. I was impressed with the packaging, they pack some weight and have an elegant look and feel.

These are available in sixteen shades and so far the most impressive aspect of the shade selection is the fact there seems to be an MLBB shade for everyone here (my lips but better). Don’t get me wrong there are some vibrant shades of color as well including a few vampy lip shades as well. But it seems like the entire color catalog is made up of a selection of shades that you’ll look at, try, and proceed to crow with delight that it enhances the shade of your lip tone. This in turn gives you the perfect MLBB look.

Of course, another thing to really love here is the moisturizing factor. As I mentioned above creams can be pretty unforgivable but Too Faced successfully created a cream lipstick that applies like a balm or a tinted lip treatment. These glide onto lips like butter sans tugging or patchy application. The finish has a slight shine to it with a balm-y like texture that wears comfortably and moisturizing throughout the entire wear.

I could sit for a few hours with one of these on and come out of the experience feeling like my lips are nicely hydrated. Cream yes but it’s a cream that works to hydrate lips. Supposedly the formula includes peptides for smoothing and conditioning lips, this might be why it has such a smooth, flawless finish on.

These lipsticks are incredibly lightweight but still manage to yield color in a single swipe. Pigmentation is excellent here and nothing was left out or forsaken to give them that moisturizing finish.

The end result?

My mind is completely changed about creams. I guess they can be done right!

Too Faced did an excellent job with their new La Creme Lipsticks. I highly recommend checking these out, I think you’ll love them as much as I do.

A fabulously moist little lippie with a cream finish!

I ended up returning Razzle Dazzle Rose as I realized it was a bit mod on me, but I am curious about Spice Spice Baby after seeing your swatches since it seems more MLBB…

    • the Muse

same for me tammie, spice spice baby seems to be the best for me in terms of an MLBB. there are quite a few MLBB shades to be had, it’s a matter of sorting through them though! they are gorgeous. How’d ya like the formula?

  • Kim

I have Razzle Dazzle Rose and love it. It’s perfect for my fair, cool-toned skin. And my mom was the one who told me to get that one (I was leaning more toward Nice Melons)! I’m definitely going to get at least one more. I love the formula on these as they feel so nice on the lips. 🙂

    • the Muse

Kim, sadly it didn’t quite work for me ;-D I didn’t see a swatch of Nice Melons yet but that sounds awesome!

  • Lisa

I like the Spice spice baby and I want candy on you! I want to try those two and the nude beach. I am not much of a lip color girl though

  • Carolyn

I completely agree that the formula on these is amazing. I ordered Sweet Maple and Honey Bear online planning to return whichever one wasn’t my perfect MLBB shade. Turns out, they both are, just in different ways! The texture on Honey Bear is just the slightest bit rough (likely due to the shimmer) but they both feel great on the lips and have decent staying power.

    • the Muse

I didn’t even notice the shimmer in honey bear carolyn! Ha! but agreed, several I tried were my MLBB shade too, just in different ways. I think everyone is guaranteed to find at least one shade here that’s MLBB for them!

  • Cassie

HOLY…. I don’t know how you do it, but you never cease to convince me that I need more lipsticks (I don’t. I really don’t). These look so LUSH… so creamy and lovely and delicious feeling on the lips. I must try one… and probably buy one… or two… or seven…

    • the Muse

do it cassie lol! they are AMAZING. I’m not really one to get excited about lipstick (I’m more an eyeshadow girl) but these are lush!

  • Larie

You look lovely! These also look amazing, and I’m glad to hear that they’re a cream formula that works. My eye is on the vampy shade… 😀

  • anna

I love the look of these. I feel like I need at least half a dozen of them -_-… Oi so bad.

  • Vic27

I haven’t really paid much attention to these lipsticks with reviews from other blogs but I suddenly changed my mind when I read yours. You have magical powers muse! Lol

    • the Muse

aw man vic thanks! I suck at swatching/lip swatches so that’s such a HUGE compliment! <3!

  • sierrablue

funny, I’m wearing I Want Candy today and have to say I love how moisturizing it is. I will definitely have to get Spice Spice Baby. Thank you for the swatches and pics, they all look lovely on you.

  • Angel

Aw man, there goes my no buy, right out the window. Muse, can you tell me if you think that Nude Beach is on the mauvey side? Like dusty rosey mauve? It looks like it might be a dupe of my favorite discontinued Sephora lippie.

  • Kay Lee

Spice Spice Baby and I Want Candy look amazing on you! From your description of these lippies, they sound a lot like Revlon’s Lip Butters. I was just wondering how do they compare in terms of pigmentation, texture, and longevity?

    • the Muse

thanks kay. They have a lighter feel and texture compared to Revlon’s version however, they do have that certain balmy-ness to them. The pigmentation is also a little lighter than Revlon’s. Revlon really packs a bunch, like a full coverage lipstick where as Too Faced has plenty of pigment but isn’t as in your face if that makes sense, it’s more a natural finish. I wear comfortably for four hours without dryness or fading (without eating/drinking).

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

I LOVE the look of Spice Spice Baby!!! It looks incredibly flattering and looks amazing on you, of course!

  • cat

WANT. Not sure about which specific colors I’d like but they look great on you, Muse.

  • TK

I’m dying to get my hands on divine wine! I live deep burgundy/red colors! Also, naked dolly looks amazing! Definitely a natural lip shade for me! I was a little unsure about this creme lipstick at first but now now I know I must have these!

    • the Muse

tk me too, cream is typically drying on me but these are gorgeous! they really re-define a cream lipstick!

  • Phyrra

I really love the shades I tried. It is a great formula. They look great on you!

  • Majick

I LoVE Stiletto Red on you – magnificent! All the rest are nice too but if you want to rock a red – that’s it.

I have this on today in Coral Fire – Surprised you didn’t have that one. LOL I really like it. They are creamy and moisturizing and I think they taste a little like Fresh Sugar lip balms.

    • the Muse

aw thanks majick! I’m always unsure about red. I was wondering about that one! It’s actually in my cart!

  • crissyk

Too faced is doing an amazing job this year with their new collection!

    • the Muse

those are a little too nude for me Lala but the formula is great all around on all the shades.

  • Saiba

They look wonderful! Now I shall go and comply to my lipstick/cream/etc addiction. Spice spice baby will be mine! Also Divine Wine and Stiletto Red look great on you, I can’t pull that off for my life lol

    • the Muse

saiba they are gorgeous ;-D if you try do let me know what you think! 😀

  • dina

what a beautiful finish for a cream. can’t wait to check these out 🙂 thanks for the good word!

  • JenJ

Ooooooh Ms. Muse, questions for ya. How do these compare to the new L’Oreal lippies? Just curious.

  • Natalie

These look great! I think I’m going to give, I Want Candy and Razzle Dazzle Rose a try. Thanks for the great swatches! 🙂

  • Ruthless

These are amazing. I have nude beach, it smells fantastic (I hate unfragranced lip products, ie NARS) and it’s so moisturizing

  • jukeboxgirl

You’re so right with this review! I bought Spice Spice Baby on a whim without doing any research (i usually research things before I buy them). But boy am I glad I picked it up. Definitely a MLBB lipstick for me and so hydrating. And because of your post I really want to get divine wine! Such a pretty color 🙂 I’m curious, does Divine Wine feather or move all over the place on the lips?

    • the Muse

aw happy to hear it jukeboxgirl they really are lovely ;-D no actually it doesnt, I typically have issues with wines/reds and migrating…but this stayed nicely in place!

      • Majick

I have to agree, I just picked up Divine Wine during F&F and LOVE it. It really does stay in place and doesnt seem to migrate or dry out my lips. These lippies are winners in my book!💋
