Laura Geller Fresh Brewed Beauty Review & Swatches

I couldn’t resist, I purchased the Laura Geller Fresh Brewed Beauty Set.

*hangs head in shame*

It’s just too cute, it comes in a little coffee bean bag, how could I resist?

Is it worth your buck?

Take a look and find out!

This set will be premiering shortly on QVC as a Today Special Value however, you should be able to order it now if you’re a QVC Insider as that’s how I got my hands on it.

The set is $49.95 and $6.22 for shipping. It’s available for a one time shipment or you can order it on auto delivery which includes new seasonal shades in the upcoming months ahead of the colors in the kit.

You get:

  • Baked Highlighter in French Vanilla
  • Baked imPRESSions Blush in Mauve Mocha Latte (terracotta pink)
  • Baked imPRESSions Eye Palette in Creamy Latte (light brown), Warm Mocha (medium brown), and Dark Roast (dark brown)
  • Balance-n-Brighten Foundation (choice of shades)
  • Color Drenched Lip Gloss in Cafe au Lait (creamy caramel with coffee aroma and flavor)
  • Double Applicator Brush

Even after adding shipping in this is an excellent value as all the items are full size.

Laura went with something a little different here as she typically favors traditional baked domed products and the blush and eye palette are actually flat powder compacts.

I really like the overall look this creates and don’t regret the purchase at all however, I think both the shadow trio and blush were a little dry. I’m surprised since I get fairly good pigment from Laura Geller products but in this case the shadow formula was a little weak with a drier, harder texture that proves difficult to pick up with a brush which resulted in sheer pigmentation. I also felt the shades were hard to contrast with since all three are very close in color. The blush suffered a drier texture as well but had better pigmentation than the trio. I gotta admit I had hopes these products would smell like coffee, that would be rather wicked right?

Also included is a Baked Highlighter which is fairly easy to use. Considering I’m a fool with highlighting I was quite delighted how easy it was to work with this. The cool French Vanilla shade doesn’t have sparkle, shimmer but just a lovely pearlish glow.

Color Drenched Lip Gloss in Cafe au Lait (it has a creamy toffee taste) seems difficult to pull off at first since it’s a nude peachy tan but after application of the other product it does come across quite nicely on lips. This is a full coverage, glossy lip color. It’s quite lightweight with a nice wear time.

And finally you get Balance-n-Brighten Foundation in your choice of shades. I absolutely love this product since it does indeed brighten face up, eases dullness, and provides smooth, weightless coverage that enhances the look of skin and gives it a flawless finish.

Highlighter and Balance-n-Brighten in Medium

Overall, I think the Laura Geller Fresh Brewed Beauty Collection is a fabulous little set but not without a few flaws. I think the kit doesn’t showcase Laura’s great makeup particularly if this is your first Laura Geller purchase. Both the trio and blush had mediocre, uneventful formulas that surprised me as I expect so much better from Laura than this. But facts is facts, the set does create a nice, natural nude look for pennies.

Hopefully the upcoming colors in this set prove nicer.

I liked it well enough but can’t rightfully recommend it due to the formula inconsistencies.

If you tried it, I’d love to hear about it.

Thank God you ended this post with the review! I talked myself out of buying it after your first post because I had just placed a big order with Sephora. Then I clicked on this post, saw your swatches and thought “darnit! Now I HAVE to buy it!” But after your review, I’m back to not wanting to buy it.

Could you review the new Tom Ford Emerald Lust palette so I can talk myself out of buying it? I keep staring wistfully at a picture of it, but it’s SEVENTY-FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS and even I know I shouldn’t spend that on a 4 eye shadow palette, I don’t care how hot Tom Ford is. lol

    • the Muse

lol man I can lick him from the top of his head to his toes. he’s stunning. I gotta say, as crazy as I am about makeup, you prob won’t catch me indulging, $75 for a single palette is way above my head 😀 although I overindulge in just about everything beauty, I can’t see myself dishing out on a single palette that much ouch!

lol…! well at least the post helped a little…the shades are a little uneventful to be honest! BUT the overall look they create is nice ;D you can always return it if you hate it but you do loose $10 or so dollars in doing so due to shipping 😀

  • melanie

Shamefully I have yet to try her products….. there is the want of course. I love this set and so adorable. Love the neutral color pallet. How do you like the Balance-n-Brighten Foundation??? Do you find in to be a nice “power” foundation ??

    • the Muse

i love it, I’ve reviewed it a few times on here Melanie that’s why I didn’t go into any detail on the post ;-D but it’s fabulous. I have dry skin and it sits very comfortably. It creates a nice flawless finish, lightweight, and isn’t too drying for me. It’s good for a fresher more natural look versus fuller coverage bb cream and/or foundation! 🙂

      • melanie

Thank you….I am new to your site….found you by accident and now addicted your posts LOL !!!!

        • the Muse

my pleasure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay! so happy to have a new reader 😀 it’s a pleasure to meet you and thanks for actually commenting. most new readers lurk hehe!

  • Laura

So I was right – the BnB is NOT the SPF one? I think I’ll just Ebay it – but the blush color rally has my eye.

I noticed that everything seems matte – did you see any shimmer in the eyeshadows or blush?

    • the Muse

nope no spf here hun. none, all semi matte formula, I wouldn’t even say satin since they are a little drier.

      • Laura

Did you use the darkest brown as liner like the instructions say? Seems really light too – how are the pigments

        • the Muse

hi laura mentioned pigmentation and the drier formula in the post and also addressed how the colors seem to be very similiar so it’s hard to contrast with them 🙂 I did use the liner as instructed.

  • TLE

Ooo I think this is the first set that I actually like everything in it!!! I think it shall be a purchase!

  • Sara Elisabeth

Oh man, your review has me saddened. I bought this, and I was hoping it would make me addicted to Laura Geller products. This is my first LG purchase.

    • the Muse

sara, I’m hoping to hear your thoughts perhaps you’ll like it more than me? the overall look is gorgeous but it’s not a great showcase for Laura Geller makeup which is far better quality than this. update me when it arrives, curious what you think!

      • Sara Elisabeth

        Hi, Muse,

Mine came, and I am pleasantly surprised. I see what you mean about the texture being a little stiff, but the pigmentation is there. Seriously! The highlighter is to die for!!! And I am happy with the color of the blush, as I have so many shimmery brights in my stash. This, at least, gives me some variety.

        • the Muse

I AM happy to hear it sara ;-D I’m quite happy with it overall, it creates a really pretty look! You’re new to LG though you said, I do suggest trying some of her other baked products, as she does amazing stuff and this isn’t half as good as it gets ;D!

  • OrangeLipstickBlog

Haha, I somehow knew you’d end up with this! Thanks for the review!

  • Jessica

I love your reviews, Muse!!! I was sketchy about this set but now that I know more about it I own plenty of products that are similar and now I won’t feel bad for splurging! The eye shadows in particular, had me think of WnW Vanity palette, or any other basic brow/neutral palette. Thanks!

    • the Muse

thanks miss jessica ;-D <3! my pleasure! I'm so glad you found it helpful!

  • isabella

The coffee bean motif is too adorable. Sadly i think the colors are too nude for me

  • Lisa Marie

I am a HUGE fan of balance-n-brighten, I can only pull off the medium in the summer while tan. I have veered away from purchasing any of the eyeshadows from this line as they always seem Sooooooo shimmery. I like shimmer, but as I get nearer 40, I have started to use less of it. I think I would highly consider this one, since there are products that appeal much to my tastes. I think that highlighter is one I can handle, as well.

    • the Muse

same here lisa that’s one I went with medium myself ;-D no shimmer here for ya!

    • Sara Elisabeth

Everything in this set is matte except the highlighter. I just got mine this morning, and I would almost pay $50 just for the highlighter. It is the prettiest highlighter ever. It’s like M.A.C. Lightscaped but better.

  • Winni

COFFEE BEAN design?! Where do I swipe my credit care? Love it! If only they had coffee extract in the lipgloss for an afternoon pick up!

  • Kae

I have a ton of LG items and liked this kit so much I ordered two! The middle eye shadow shade is a matte camel and I love it with my hazel eyes. I believe the reason she included a sponge applicator rather than a brush is that this new formula will go on better with a sponge. I use the darkest shade wet as a liner with her liner brush and it is a perfect eyebrow color for dark brows! LOVE the blush!! I keep reaching for it over and over. And it appears that the BnB is back to the non-SPF formula. I compared the brochure to the Vanilla Nudes past TSV kit and it appeared to be the same – so I am happy about that!

Packaging beyond cute!!! Great value as well! Nice to see her returning to that $50 price point. I had to hand it to Laura’s team and QVC for having the product to ship as soon as it appeared in the Insider — about a month before the actual TSV date. But that should give her plenty of testimonials from folks who have used the kit. I am very anxious to hear her presentation and the thinking behind this new formula! thanks all and enjoy!

  • Phyrra

I love the BnB foundation in Porcelain. Kinda sad that the shadows were dry, but otherwise a nice neutral set.

  • Kiss & Make-up

I won’t be buying this, but I have to say this: how cute is that coffee been pattern?! 🙂

  • Isis

we should get this as christmas but really… who wants a nuetral palette for that season and I already a ton of brown/neautral shadows anyway. but I know I’ll probably cave…. of the shame!
I do Love Laura but I really she’s do a red/blackberry dream creams lip palette.

    • the Muse

aw totally know what you mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that would be lovely….! great for holiday as well ;-D did you see the new set she as at Ulta?

  • Majick

I think this is a really cute set. i already have the highlighter and it’s the BOMB – you CAN NOT GO WRONG with this one. NO sparkle, just glo, I use it a LOT and I’m 52, so if any of you may be frightened DON’T.

I already have B&B new an unused from other kits so I won’t be ordering this but still think it’s a great deal for those who don’t have soem of the products.

  • Isis

Thanks muse I will hop over and look. Totally agree with Majick on the highlighter, I wet it and use it in lue of her body frosting have even smashed it and B+B together, wet them and mixed with body balm for leg make up… clearly too much time on my hands 🙂

    • the Muse

my pleasure! 😀 that’s actually interesting….using the two together on my face, smooshed together, hmmm ideas!

  • coco

I ordered the TSV Monday night I think? Can’t wait to try out the balance n brighten for the first time. I already have the highlighter and love it. I hope I find the rest of the kit usable….otherwise Mom will be happy to receive practically new products that I test and don’t love.

  • Biloxi

I like this set, but I’m wondering about the next shipment in early January. Anyone know what will be in it? As of this moment, I’m really wanting Laura’s 12/28 TSV called Off the Vine. Sure would love to know about the AD for the coffee kit though.

  • RJ

Just wondering when and if you’ll be posting about the 2nd AD shipment. I delayed mine to see what the reviews where on the new colors. (That and the BnB lasts me forever.)

    • the Muse

unfortunately I don’t have it yet RJ, I think it ships next month? as soon as I have it, will def post!

  • S D

Do you know of a lipstick dupe of cafe au lair Color drenched gloss? I love that colour and need to find a comparable lipstick shade to match. Please help if you can? Thank you! 🙂
