Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick Review & Swatches
So how we feeling about Lush Emotional Brilliance so far? Lush launches themselves back into the world of cosmetics with this range of makeup. I say “back into” since they have already had a makeup line a few years ago called B Never.
B Never was fancy and posh and terribly alluring but Lush Emotional Brilliance is more industry for me. It’s very modern yet has an old world alchemy feel about it as well.
Lush’s “Spin the Wheel” discovery game can be played which personalizes your color experience with Emotional Brilliance. It’s not something you have to do but it’s a fun little extra that allows Lush to spontaneously select shades they think suit your mood.
Lushs Color Wheel will select a shade based on your “mood” or “state of mind” and is available to play with at both stores and online.
What do you think of the Color Wheel? I’m more about selecting shades I like. Are you cool with letting Lush doing the picking for you?
I checked our an Emotional Brilliance Eyeliner recently and this morning I decided to test out the Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick I got my greedy hands on.
Here are some thoughts!
The shade I was sent is called Bubbly. I couldn’t pick a better shade for my personality as indeed, I’m bubbly, always happy, always smiling. Very little gets me down. Lush describes it as a cheerful, high spirited shade.
I’m not technically sure how to describe the shade. It’s sorta burnt pink with metallic elements. There’s a bit of red here and a little hint of orange as well. It’s a unique shade to say the least.
The formula is a velvet lip color with a thin consistency. It’s very lightweight and has a semi-matte finish that’s comfortably moist. There’s not a ton of shine to speak of here but a little clear gloss helps things along should you desire more glossiness. The color is quite pigmented so what you see in the bottle is what you get on lips.
The lipstick comes in housed in a tiny dropper style glass bottle. The glass is iffy because if you’re clumsy and drop it, well, it’ll shatter. However, the vintage alchemy look and feel to it is rather nice and it has a certain modern feel as well. It does have an attached sponge applicator for application as well.
I did complain in my prior review on the eyeliner. The brush was too short to reach product and it didn’t saturate well with the eyeliner. This brush thankfully saturated very well however, as you near the end of the product (which will take ages since it is so large) you’ll have to get a longer applicator to get all the product out.
Some folks feel $22.95 is a bit much to splurge on a lipstick however, it is nearly twice the size of a typical lipstick (5g).
I’m unsure how long it’ll remain fresh. Lush typically has an expire date on all there products however, Emotional Brilliance lacks the feature. I imagine six months to a year at best since this lacks many of the preservatives regular lipstick has to keep it fresh.
If you feel pressed to use it quickly for fear it’ll go bad I suggest using it as a blush. It wears quite long on lips and leaves behind a lovely stain once it wears away. It does the same on cheeks. I tried a little on my cheeks and came away with nicely flushed cheeks that remained so for a good eight to ten hours after application.
Overall, Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick pleased me a lot more than the eyeliner I tried did. This was a nice pick and I’ll be looking at other shades when I get to my local Lush store!
They are worth looking at if you desire long wearing color that can multitask for lips and cheeks.
