Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

So how we feeling about Lush Emotional Brilliance so far? Lush launches themselves back into the world of cosmetics with this range of makeup. I say “back into” since they have already had a makeup line a few years ago called B Never.

B Never was fancy and posh and terribly alluring but Lush Emotional Brilliance is more industry for me. It’s very modern yet has an old world alchemy feel about it as well.

Lush’s “Spin the Wheel” discovery game can be played which personalizes your color experience with Emotional Brilliance. It’s not something you have to do but it’s a fun little extra that allows Lush to spontaneously select shades they think suit your mood.

Lushs Color Wheel will select a shade based on your “mood” or “state of mind” and is available to play with at both stores and online.

What do you think of the Color Wheel? I’m more about selecting shades I like. Are you cool with letting Lush doing the picking for you?

I checked our an Emotional Brilliance Eyeliner recently and this morning I decided to test out the Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick I got my greedy hands on.

Here are some thoughts!

The shade I was sent is called Bubbly. I couldn’t pick a better shade for my personality as indeed, I’m bubbly, always happy, always smiling. Very little gets me down. Lush describes it as a cheerful, high spirited shade.

I’m not technically sure how to describe the shade. It’s sorta burnt pink with metallic elements. There’s a bit of red here and a little hint of orange as well. It’s a unique shade to say the least.

The formula is a velvet lip color with a thin consistency. It’s very lightweight and has a semi-matte finish that’s comfortably moist. There’s not a ton of shine to speak of here but a little clear gloss helps things along should you desire more glossiness. The color is quite pigmented so what you see in the bottle is what you get on lips.

The lipstick comes in housed in a tiny dropper style glass bottle. The glass is iffy because if you’re clumsy and drop it, well, it’ll shatter. However, the vintage alchemy look and feel to it is rather nice and it has a certain modern feel as well. It does have an attached sponge applicator for application as well.

I did complain in my prior review on the eyeliner. The brush was too short to reach product and it didn’t saturate well with the eyeliner. This brush thankfully saturated very well however, as you near the end of the product (which will take ages since it is so large) you’ll have to get a longer applicator to get all the product out.

Some folks feel $22.95 is a bit much to splurge on a lipstick however, it is nearly twice the size of a typical lipstick (5g).

I’m unsure how long it’ll remain fresh. Lush typically has an expire date on all there products however, Emotional Brilliance lacks the feature. I imagine six months to a year at best since this lacks many of the preservatives regular lipstick has to keep it fresh.

If you feel pressed to use it quickly for fear it’ll go bad I suggest using it as a blush. It wears quite long on lips and leaves behind a lovely stain once it wears away. It does the same on cheeks. I tried a little on my cheeks and came away with nicely flushed cheeks that remained so for a good eight to ten hours after application.

Overall, Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Lipstick pleased me a lot more than the eyeliner I tried did. This was a nice pick and I’ll be looking at other shades when I get to my local Lush store!

Do check these out.

They are worth looking at if you desire long wearing color that can multitask for lips and cheeks.

I’m probably not too concerned about the glass breaking because I did an art project with this size of glass bottles (from the medical industry) and we tested them by dropping them at 8 feet onto concrete, less than a third broke that way.

Omg, SO pretty! Thx for reviewing and welcome back! I wasn’t too interested in Lush, but now I am!

aw thanks win! it’s great to be back! ;-D Lush is totally addicting, have you tried the bath/skincare?!

I did an article about my Lush Emotional Brilliance experience too, and I have to say that I really like the concept. It’s so fun to spin the wheel and to link colors to a personality trait. I got health, control and strong and it all fit me. I ended up only getting one of the three products (a deep blue eyeliner) but I like it alot. The bottles don’t look particularly attrative, but for me the experience and the quality of the products make up for that.

Great review. I did the color wheel and didn’t find it particularly helpful, although I did like many of the colors in the whole collection. The texture of these liquid lipsticks is pretty good–it feels like a lot of those liquid longwearing lipsticks on the market, but not as drying. It does have more product than an actual lipstick, but with that packaging, I don’t think I’d be able to get all of the product out (or even more than half of it really), and I worry about the product expiring too.

    • the Muse

i think it’s a fun idea but not necessarily helpful! I have the same problem. I nicked some of those long tipped sponge applicators from sephora to use with this ;D!

    Pretty color!

I do think that it’s a bit annoying that no expiration date is listed on the Emotional Brilliance products, seeing as how pretty much every other product from Lush lists an expiration date. However, I do know that their Eyes Right Mascara expires 3 months after first opening it, and if it’s unopened, then it will last for 14 months. (I was actually surprised by how much I liked this product.)

agreed Xail! mmm gosh I hope that’s not the expire for all the products, I’d be pressed to use all of this lipstick in that short a time 🙁 I know B Never products had a year expiration date but I noticed the cream glitter shadows they did went off after three months, they just lost the color and looked grey and gross after that time period 🙁

  • regina

hey muse they last about a year before they expire and the bottles wont break cause ive dropped them plenty of times.

There’s a Lush store opening at my mall 😀
SO EXCITED (but not for my wallet…hah)

  • Misato-san

oh I tried this one too and I think I’ll buy it sooner or later because I don’t have a colour like it in my stash (and I’ve got plenty of lipsticks XD).
It’s so cute! (Here in Italy it’s called Frizzante XD)
