MAC Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara Review
MAC recently launched their new Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara which might seem familiar to you as it is a play on their original Haute & Naughty Mascara.
It deserves to be mentioned I loved the original formulation but I wasn’t sure how they could improve on this especially since it looked like the same exact product.
Let’s take a look!
MAC Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara ($20) is described as an intensely pigmented blacker than black formulation which gives rich, dark lashes. Ok, so that’s what different, pigmentation!
The tube is unique and quite innovative but loses some of that appeal if you’ve already indulged and own the original formula or even tried Rimmel’s version as well as a few other brands who released a similarly tubed mascara last year that copy catted off of MAC.
Basically this acts as a dual mascara that gives definition, volume, or both depending how you use it. The tube of mascara works in a way that a single wand is inserted into a larger tube which allows for more or less mascara to be released onto the applicator. The applicator is a traditional bushy brush applicator. The larger inner wand tube removes excess mascara as it goes through it which results in less mascara on the brush. Using it like this gives lashes a soft, lightweight flutter appearance. This is in fact a nice look however, getting to the added volume option is where a mess happens.
Having the mascara want go through the inner tube and come out with extra mascara on the brush is supposed to result in a more dramatic look. Sadly, the “drama” factor is a messy, clumpy finish. For some reason it works great with the original formulation but this time around I experienced a clumpy look (as you cans see in my photos). On the upside it really does produce really fantastically blacker than black lashes which is great if you’re doing a smoky look.
But…
In the end, the blacker pigmentation of the formula isn’t enough to get excited about particularly when that same formula is creating ooey gooey clumpy lashes. No likey.
