NARS Outlaw Blush Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

So yeah, NARS Outlaw Blush ($28) disappeared off the face of the earth before I could haul it. As you know NARS Blush in Outlaw was available as part of the general catalog for quite a while.

When it disappeared I’m unsure. I just know that I never technically indulged in the shade and why that is, is quite the mystery.

Sadly, I can’t compare the formula of yesteryear to today’s current formula but I will say I like Outlaw as a color but the formula is a little bit meh.

Take a look!

You tell me what you think!

NARS Outlaw makes a reappearance for Fall 2012 and might just become part of the standard collection once again as NARS doesn’t notate it as a LE shade in their Fall line up.

The color is a warm, deep shade of clay berry red with a golden shimmer. Don’t get nervous the golden shimmer isn’t as prominent as the one you’d find in Orgasm or Super Orgasm. This sparkle is way more refined and subtle. The color has elements of rose, raspberry, red, and burnt bronze to me. It’s a complex shade which I absolutely love since it’s quite unique.

On the downside the color does run a bit drier or at least my sample did. It appears quite pigmented in the compact but it doesn’t technically commute to your brush. It lacks the “dust up” of a typical NARS Blush so a little building is required on my part to get the best color pay off. The dryness does cause an issue with patchy application for me so I end up looking a little clown-y if I’m not spending extra time and patience to dab the color on just right.

If you do pick this up, I’d suggest a bushy brush for application. This sheers out nicely and creates an even layer of color with a smoother finish. I typically like using a flat almost dome-like Bobbi Brown Blush to apply my blushes but in this case I had to reach for my MAC 134 to avoid patchy application issues.

The overall texture isn’t the greatest I’ve run across from NARS but the color is truly special and creates a nice glow on cheeks. I’m unsure if you need to run out and purchase it though since there are so many other NAR’s blushes with far superior formulas. Who wants to spend near $30 on a blush that has applies patch and has a dry formula?

Available now at NARS counters.

Do you own Outlaw?

Did you have these issues with the old version?

How about the new?

Do share!

This is a common problem for me too with Nars blushes–I know a lot of people are obsessed with Nars blushes but I often find them to be a little hard and dry and most of the time, too shimmery for my taste :/

    Great blog and great post!

But I’m wondering, why your posts don’t show up in total on googlereader 🙁

There’s always the line “Read the rest of NARS Outlaw Blush Review & Swatches (341 words)”

Could you change anything, that it’s shown entirely?

hi claudia thanks so much! I do read more on google so users will visit the site and interact a bit more. 🙂

Love the color. Boo to the dry formula. I don’t have any NARS blushes. I keep saying that I’m going to get Taj Mahl. But then I can see a downward spiral similar to my obsession with tarte’s blushes lol!

I love Outlaw and have been using the old version for years without issues. In fact, it’s my go-to blush since it is so easy to apply and the color is gorgeous. It’s really disappointing that the new version isn’t as smooth.

I just bought this an hour ago! I also got the Amsterdam matte lip and the combo is sublime. I have to be super careful with the blush b/c I could easily look like a feverish baby doll. I like the tip about the big fluffy brush! I’m actually thinking maybe a big bushy bronzer-sized brush, right? (I don’t know the MAC 134)

lol a feverish baby doll eh? ;-D def try a fluffy brush, it really smooths it out and gives it an airbrushed finish! ;-D a bronzer brush COULD work but sometimes bronzer brushes have dense bristles maybe try a powder brush ;D

Looks like I am late. I love outlaw and I am so upset that I can’t find it anywhere. Do you know of anything similar?

Aw so sorry! Perhaps ebay or mercari? Or maybe a fellow makeup lover on reddit or makeupalley will be willing to trader/swap or sell you one!
