Too Faced 3 Way Lash Lining Tool Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Seriously, do I really need the Too Faced 3 Way Lash Lining Tool? Even the name is tricky. Dare you to say it three times in a row, really fast.

‘ello ‘ello I’m a complete klutz with liquid lining so I wasn’t feeling any great love for the 3 Way Lash Lining Tool but I tried it and I was convinced that I might not be able to live without it.

You NEED to try it.

This three prong felt tip marked multitasks to perform a number of cool tasks to line and define eyes. Yup, one tool, three looks. WINNING!

It’s pretty much your standard liquid liner pen but instead of a precise point you’re getting a square felt tip divided into three prongs. You can use these prongs to dot between lashes for a fuller lash line. This, is in fact, why I love it so hard. If your mascara isn’t quite giving you that full lash look you desire this fills in areas between your lashes and gives the appearance of fuller lashes. It gives a finished appearance after mascara application. At first it sounded like a weird thing to do but now I simply use it as part of my daily makeup regime because I love the look it creates.

Now you might now be impressed with emphasizing your lashes and that’s ok because you can of course use it as a liquid liner. The flat edge allows for a precise line, although a little thick, with a quick swipe of pigmented black. I did this in my look below and if I can use it, anyone can use it dude. Because I seriously lack the skills to apply liquid liner.

And finally you can use it to tight light as well!

I likey!

Personally I think it’s a gem for creating the appearance of more dramatic lashes but the fact that it multitasks other options as well makes it a nifty little tool.

It deserves to be mentioned my pen leaked a little. With each use I had to be careful removing the cap because a bit of the liner would spill out. Not sure if it’s my packaging only or if all the pens are like that. Just keep this in mind when purchasing.

Overall, a nifty and handy little tool. Particularly great for those of us that like what our mascara is doing but want a little extra pop to go along with our longer lashes.

Yes, you NEED to try it. Muse Approved.

I thought it was rather brilliant.

Seems odd and gimmicky but really works.

Available now at Sephora, Sephora.com, or grab it at www.toofaced.com

Looks a lot like the holika holika one

Not sure they perform the same since I don’t own either but I have been eager to try the holika one.

Thanks for the review! Also, what’s the average wear time on the too faced one?

    • the Muse

all day wear roslynd 🙂 not flaking, no smudging for me, set within a few seconds of lining.

  • Tina

Hey, this looks pretty cool. I think I may just have to check it out. Thanks for the review.

Although, knowing my silly nature I may just use it to draw some cat whiskers on myself.

  • A

Ohhhh, this is exactly like the Holika Holika wonder dot liquid eyeliner that came out last year! The Holika Holika one is amazing <3 doesn't smudge on me at all and so easy to use! dot dot dot! 🙂

  • Peggy Sturman

I’m soooooo glad you reviewed this. I have seen it and was super curious. Sounds like it is worth picking up.

  • femputer

i’m still mystified as to them advising that you tightline with this…i thought tightlining with anything other than gel or pencil was a no no?

    • the Muse

i don’t use liquid for tight lines either femputer but seems some folks do, have seen a ton of tutorials with people doing it. for me, it’s too messy, and scared of eye irritations.

  • AmyK

Muse, is it a matte black or shimmer black? Also, how black is it? I’m looking for a dark, bold, matte black to replace my Bobbi Brown gel liner when it runs out. I love the bold line I get but I’m tired of using a brush. I like Lorac’s liquid liner but it is not a dark black. Thanks!

    • the Muse

pigmented black shade amy, kinda hard to answer “how back is it?” hehe…blackest black? 🙂 it’s matte no shimmer. actually the new Lorac gel liner is blacker if you’re referencing colors.

  • HapaGirl

Ooh, thanks for the demo! I was thinking about picking up a possible Holika Holika dupe, I’ll have to try it out and see if it gives me that polished eye look that you are rocking so hard here! 🙂 Looks fabulous, dear!

    • the Muse

aw thanks hapa! I actually have the HH one but never tried it. I wanna try the Clarins one too, that launches soon!

  • Erika

Holika Holika does this type liner for cheaper if you’re interested.

It’s been out for quite a while, and I’ve been curious about it’s performance. If you ever get your hands on Holika Holika’s version maybe you can do a review and comparison to Too Faced.

  • blue

have u tried the holika holika wonder drawing dot liner muse? i’m just kind of “eeh” on this since holika holika released it first and it seems like too faced is copying. :-\ maybe that’s just me…

    • the Muse

i actually have it blue, tossed in a pile to review, and never did. after trying this I really should dig it out and give it a whirl! 😀 it’s funny as it was a gift and I tossed it aside, the holika holika one that is, because I don’t like liquid liners. I tried the TF version and suddenly I’m interesting in trying the HH version. Mmm all brands do though eh? kate also has one as well as clarins which is coming out this Fall.

  • Tingting

Wow! Your lashline looks really thick and dramatic 🙂
Might need to get me some of this lining tool !

  • Sorchathorn

Thank you so much for reviewing this product. I saw it on Sephora’s website last week and was thinking of purchasing it. This has made up my mind!

  • Suzi

Looks great! Was it a challenge to use? I usually use cake liner, but this looks like it would be less hassle.

    • the Muse

actually no, seemed simple enough suzi! and I suck at liquid liner!

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample

Wow–even in the pic with your eyes closed, you really can’t see a discernible line of eyeliner at all–it really does just look like you have super full lashes. Since I started tightlining my eyes, I noticed such a HUGE difference. I won’t go without doing it now–ever! I’d love to try this eyeliner. It seems gimmicky at first, but now I see its true potential!

  • sai

Have u tried Kate one? I have been using that one for quite a while…..It’s pretty good .

I am wondering if I should order one of this to try……I got soooooo many eyeliner now….and I have just order 2 prefect eyes eyeliner…~__~

    • the Muse

no sai! was going to pick it up when kate fall 2012 launched ;-D really curious about the clarins one as well!

  • Kiss & Make-up

Omg I DO need this! I’m definitely adding this to the wish list!

  • Sue – MakeupMew

This looks nifty and your lashes look real lush. I’m not too sure if I would get this though because it leaks.

  • Lorraine ER

That is a good look for you! It looks like you were able to get a nice thin tight line with this, would you say that is true? My problem with liquid liners is they make the lines so think and I have small eyes so it overpowers everything else. OR the top of the line is shaky looking after I draw it on and I have to keep going over it to get it even and everytime it gets a little thicker until it looks silly.

    • the Muse

aw thanks lorraine, thought the liner was thicker but you could potentially go a little thinner with a steady hand. you can actually dot with this first and follow through with the line so it gives it a more smooth finish and looks less shaky as you said.

  • Colette

This is interesting. Not sure I completely understand how to use it. LOL

What eyeshadow are you wearing in the pics? I’m a taupe addict. 🙂

  • Nat

Mine does not leak, so you probably got a faulty one. I did notice, however, that I need to store it point down; otherwise the tip gets a tiny bit dry. 🙂

    • the Muse

thanks nat! I actually ordered one from sephora, waiting on it to come, because I figured it might be a fluke!

  • dollie-d

thanks so much for reviewing this muse! i was so confused by it in the store… like, are dotted lines the new thing to do? lol. cant wait to pick this one up! and ive never tried tightlining before.. a whole new world has opened for me!

  • Loppi

Wow nice! Do you think this would work well for super fair types?
I have ginger hair and I can’t really wear eye liner without having a weird line where my mascara can’t reach! Sounds like the dotting thing could possibly help with that since I’m way too squeamish about eyeballs to tightline lol.
